In the process industry, long-term and efficient optimization of production lines requires real-time monitoring and analysis of operational states to fine-tune production line parameters. However, complexity in operational logic and intricate coupling of production process parameters make it difficult to develop an accurate mathematical model for the entire process, thus hindering the deployment of efficient optimization mechanisms. In view of these difficulties, we propose to deploy a digital twin of the production line by encoding its operational logic in a data-driven approach. By iteratively mapping the real-world data reflecting equipment operation status and product quality indicators in the digital twin, we adopt a quality prediction model for production process based on self-attention-enabled temporal convolutional neural networks. This model enables the data-driven state evolution of the digital twin. The digital twin takes a role of aggregating the information of actual operating conditions and the results of quality-sensitive analysis, which facilitates the optimization of process production with virtual-reality evolution. Leveraging the digital twin as an information-flow carrier, we extract temporal features from key process indicators and establish a production process quality prediction model based on the proposed deep neural network. Our operation experiments on a specific tobacco shredding line demonstrate that the proposed digital twin-based production process optimization method fosters seamless integration between virtual and real production lines. This integration achieves an average operating status prediction accuracy of over 98% and a product quality acceptance rate of over 96%. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) cites the usage of classical Internet of Things (IoT) in different applications and industrial fields. Smart grids, smart homes, supply chain management, connected cars, and smart cities are the different applications of IIoT. But this system is widely targeted by cyber-criminals. Big data analytics and Deep learning (DL) have considerable potential in developing and designing strong security systems for IIoT networks. This manuscript introduces Multimodal Sensor Data Fusion based Cyberattack Detection with glow worm swarm optimization (MSDF-CDGSO) technique in IIoT environment. The MSDF-CDGSO technique examines the IIoT data for identifying the existence of cyberattacks in the IIoT environment. In the presented MSDF-CDGSO technique, the IIoT devices collect data from different devices and fused them together. At the preliminary stage, the MSDF-CDGSO technique preprocesses the input data to scale them properly. For cyberattack detection, the MSDF-CDGSO technique uses class-specific cost regulation extreme learning machine (CCR-ELM) model. Finally, the GSO method is exploited to adjust the parameter values of the CCR-ELM algorithm. The simulation result analysis of the MSDF-CDGSO method is investigated on benchmark database. A widespread comparison results highlighted that the MSDF-CDGSO technique reaches improved cybersecurity in the IIoT environment.

The remarkable growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) has paved the way for the interconnection of a wide variety of mobile devices. To protect data confidentiality and user privacy in public networks, most key sharing and management protocols have gained wide attention. Due to the limited resources of IoT devices, relevant security primitives with high communication overhead and slow transmission rates are not suitable for the authentication of lightweight devices. To solve these problems, physical unclonable function (PUF) is lightweight security primitive that exploits the frequency difference during the chip fabrication process for the key generation or device authentication. In this paper, we flexibly configure the oscillation period of the reconfigurable HCRO-PUF to generate a shared key on the hardware side, which solve related security problems such as device cloning and key tampering. Furthermore, we propose a lightweight key sharing and management (LKSM) protocol based on HCRO-PUF for various devices and multi-server architectures. We prove that the proposed protocol satisfies the corresponding security and resistance properties through Ban logic. Compared with existing relevant protocols, security analysis and simulation results show that our protocol defends against multiple attacks. The low computational and communication costs indicate that our protocol is suitable for resource-constrained IoT devices.

In computer vision, accurate vehicle recognition and tracking is a challenging research topic. Manual surveillance systems are cumbersome, labor-intensive, and inefficient in today's congested traffic environment. Automated traffic monitoring systems are needed in today's world because they provide potential solutions to these issues. However, there are still some challenges in automating these systems which need to be addressed. One of the challenges is the extraction of foreground from a complex environment that only contains vehicles along with spatial and temporal information. In this paper, a semantic segmentation-based foreground extraction model is proposed to overcome these challenges. After segmentation, a blob detection technique is applied to detect each vehicle. To overcome the issue of vehicle-to-vehicle occlusion we extracted Harris corner points and computed the separation line based on the vehicle geometry coordinates. Furthermore, we introduce an ID assignment mechanism based on VGG-16 extracted features. Based on the detections, the number of cars is also counted for each frame. For tracking, we first applied Farneback optical flow algorithm to detect motion in vehicles. Only those vehicles were passed to the tracking algorithm in which motion was detected. To estimate each vehicle's location in succeeding image frames Kalman filter was implemented. A vehicle reidentification and ID recovery module are also proposed to enhance the tracking outcome. Vehicle trajectories based on vehicle location midpoint were also estimated. Extensive experiments are used to validate the proposed system and achieved a precision score of 0.965 and 0.931 over Roundabout and AU-AIR datasets for vehicle detection. However, for vehicle tracking the precision is 0.948 over the Roundabout dataset and 0.839 for the AU-AIR dataset. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

When Deep Learning Meets Information Retrieval-based Bug Localization: A Survey

Bug localization is a crucial aspect of software maintenance, running through the entire software lifecycle. Information retrieval-based bug localization (IRBL) identifies buggy code based on bug reports, expediting the bug resolution process for developers. Recent years have witnessed significant achievements in IRBL, propelled by the widespread adoption of deep learning (DL). To provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of the art and delve into key issues, we conduct a survey encompassing 61 IRBL studies leveraging DL. We summarize best practices in each phase of the IRBL workflow, undertake a meta-analysis of prior studies, and suggest future research directions. This exploration aims to guide further advancements in the field, fostering a deeper understanding and refining practices for effective bug localization. Our study suggests that the integration of DL in IRBL enhances the model’s capacity to extract semantic and syntactic information from both bug reports and source code, addressing issues such as lexical gaps, neglect of code structure information, and cold-start problems. Future research avenues for IRBL encompass exploring diversity in programming languages, adopting fine-grained granularity, and focusing on real-world applications. Most importantly, although some studies have started using large language models for IRBL, there is still a need for more in-depth exploration and thorough investigation in this area. © 2025, CC BY.

In this paper, we develop an Attention based Generative Adversarial Networks (AGAN) to augment image data for the purpose of robust training for efficient processing of the hyper spectral imaging. The AGAN model enables generation of images from the sample images that helps in training the classifier and in this study a fundamental classifier namely a convolutional neural network is used. A robust training is conducted to test the accuracy of detecting the instances effectively using the dataset. The simulation shows that the proposed AGAN-CNN attains improved accuracy after robust training than the existing methods.

Breast cancer is the second most deadly malignancy in women, behind lung cancer. Despite significant improvements in medical research, breast cancer is still accurately diagnosed with histological analysis. During this procedure, pathologists examine a physical sample for the presence of mitotic cells, or dividing cells. However, the high resolution of histopathology images and the difficulty of manually detecting tiny mitotic nuclei make it particularly challenging to differentiate mitotic cells from other types of cells. Numerous studies have addressed the detection and classification of mitosis, owing to increasing capacity and developments in automated approaches. The combination of machine learning and deep learning techniques has greatly revolutionized the process of identifying mitotic cells by offering automated, precise, and efficient solutions. In the last ten years, several pioneering methods have been presented, advancing towards practical applications in clinical settings. Unlike other forms of cancer, breast cancer and gliomas are categorized according to the number of mitotic divisions. Numerous papers have been published on techniques for identifying mitosis due to easy access to datasets and open competitions. Convolutional neural networks and other deep learning architectures can precisely identify mitotic cells, significantly decreasing the amount of labor that pathologists must perform. This article examines the techniques used over the past decade to identify and classify mitotic cells in histologically stained breast cancer hematoxylin and eosin images. Furthermore, we examine the benefits of current research techniques and predict forthcoming developments in the investigation of breast cancer mitosis, specifically highlighting machine learning and deep learning. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

A Systematic Analysis of Meteorological Parameters in Predicting Rainfall Events

Accurate rainfall prediction is of paramount significance across diverse sectors, particularly in agriculture, where accurate predictions play a pivotal role in effective resource management and decision-making. However, due to the complexity and dynamic structure of climate systems, rainfall prediction is a difficult task. This study shifts the focus towards exploring correlations and feature selection in the context of rainfall prediction, contributing to a more sophisticated understanding of the process. By analyzing five years of weather data from three weather stations in the United States, Canada, and Ireland, the study delves into the interactions between meteorological features and rainfall occurrences. The use of a machine learning (ML)-based feature importance technique, which enables the identification of key meteorological features that significantly contribute to rainfall prediction, is central to the work. As a result, this method improves understanding of meteorological conditions, which act as accurate forecasters of rainfall outcomes and can help to develop accurate decision-support systems. The study also conducts a thorough assessment of prediction performance of various ML and deep learning (DL) techniques such as Classification and Regression Trees (CART), Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Dense Neural Networks (DNN).The findings show that the models using only the important meteorological features in the dataset perform better than using all the features. This rigorous examination also supports the selection of appropriate rainfall forecast models for specific use cases. Overall, this study increases our understanding of rainfall prediction by focusing on the investigation of correlations between meteorological indicators and the identification of key meteorological features using ML approaches, offering valuable insights for weather forecasting applications.
