An innovative pipeline integrating wavelet transform, k-nearest neighbors (k-NN), and temporal wrapping approaches is presented in this work for the classification of eye blinks in electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings. The proposed process commences with raw EEG data preprocessing followed by wavelet treatment to extract significant time and frequency domain properties. These characteristics are subsequently utilized by a k-NN classifier to enhance the accuracy of eye blink recognition by using spatial relationships within EEG signals. Notably, the integration of a novel time wrapping technique deals with temporal dynamics, supplying the model with resilience to fluctuations in eye blink patterns across time. The pipeline’s enhanced efficiency can be observed through validation using a customized EEG dataset, particularly when navigating the time complexity associated with eye blink events. Evaluations performed against current techniques demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed solution. The outcomes not only demonstrate the methodology’s accuracy, but also its possible use in real-world settings featuring clinical diagnostics and human-computer interactions. This work conveys a strong basis for the discipline of EEG-based eye blink classification, having implications to enhance neuroscience and facilitating beneficial uses in healthcare and assistive technologies. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Monkeypox is an infectious illness caused by the DNA-based monkeypox virus, which has raised public health concerns due to its rapid transmission to over 50 countries. Direct physical interaction with infected humans or infected animals is the main reason behind the spread of this virus. The appearance of skin problems such as smallpox and rashes are the most frequently reported symptoms of this virus. Since cases of monkeypox are increasing rapidly around the world, stopping the spread of this zoonosis by providing early diagnosis and treatment is crucial before the emergence of a pandemic similar to COVID-19. In this study, we aim to propose a transfer learning-based approach using the EfficientNet-B0 architecture to identify monkeypox subjects by using skin lesion image samples. However, distinguishing monkeypox from other comparable infectious skin illnesses like chickenpox and measles is challenging. Therefore, additionally, this study identifies other diseases that also cause blisters and rashes on the skin, like chickenpox, and measles. During the data distribution phase, 5-fold cross-validation is used to validate the work's reliability by assuring that every sample is utilized for training and validation. For the evaluation of the model's classification performance, accuracy and loss are recorded for each training epoch. Moreover, precision, recall, F1-score, and confusion matrix are generated upon completion of the model training. This proposed approach is experimented on a public dataset and has shown remarkable performance by providing an overall 96.53% classification accuracy, 96.57% precision, 96.53% recall, and 96.52% F1-score. © 2023 IEEE.

The aim of educational innovation is to foster students' creative and problem-solving skills via the integration of several disciplines, including science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. Efficiently identifying and fostering the various abilities of pupils continues to be a crucial obstacle. This research presents a sophisticated educational approach that combines the notion of multiple intelligences with artificial intelligence (AI) technology to tackle this problem. This concept improves the teaching environment by including intelligent auxiliary services for instructors and students via the use of smart speech and picture interaction. Artificial intelligence (AI) integrated into the multiple intelligence's framework enables the ability to observe, analyze, and implement personalized teaching tactics in real-time using machine learning. The suggested AI-assisted education paradigm aims to enhance teacher-student interactions and facilitate personalized instruction. The study provides evidence that this technique successfully facilitates personalized and captivating learning experiences, promoting students' diverse talents and augmenting their creativity and problem-solving capabilities. This approach seeks to fundamentally transform conventional educational techniques by addressing the disparity between existing educational practices and the future requirements of the workforce. © 2024 IEEE.

Effective disaster prediction is essential for climate resilience, especially in areas prone to extreme weather events. Conventional models often face challenges in predicting complex or uncommon events, largely due to data scarcity and the difficulty of modeling temporal dependencies in sequential data. This paper introduces an innovative hybrid GAN-RNN model that leverages remote sensing and IoT sensor data to improve disaster prediction accuracy. By combining generative adversarial networks (GANs) for generating synthetic data and recurrent neural networks (RNNs) for recognizing temporal patterns, this model forms a potent predictive tool. Achieving a remarkable testing accuracy of 98.16%, the hybrid GAN-RNN model significantly surpasses traditional predictive methods. Comprehensive evaluations demonstrate its enhanced capability to predict complex and rare events effectively, establishing it as a crucial resource for disaster risk management and environmental monitoring. This research advances AI-driven methodologies in climate resilience, offering a solid framework for future innovations in the field. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Automated Program Repair (APR) automatically generates patches for identified defects. As a result, APR can encourage novice students to learn coding by providing appropriate patches. Since students have their coding conventions, we should be able to deal with many types of defects. Existing studies have used predefined RuleId-driven templates to automatically fix defects in Static Analysis Tools(SATs). However, the community periodically adds, deletes, or changes SAT's RuleIds. This is difficult for existing RuleId-based templates to reflect those changes immediately. Existing studies only cover about 10 RuleIds, making it difficult to address all defects faced by all students. Therefore, it is necessary to establish appropriate criteria for classifying templates. The SAT has a predefined format for how Error Messages are written, and since Error Messages contain fixing actions, defects with similar Error Messages tend to have similar fixing actions. These characteristics of the Error Message are suitable for reproducible template classification criteria. Our preliminary study demonstrated that by classifying patterns based on Error Messages, we could effectively address various defects, including those in different programming languages, using a single template. This means that if a newly added RuleId corresponds to an Error Message format already in the predefined Error Message-based template, it can be modified without additional effort. We plan to construct reproducible templates for each Error Message and provide ongoing patching of defects to students. © 2023 IEEE.

Vertical Federated Learning (VFL) stands out as a promising approach to safeguard privacy in collaborative machine learning, allowing multiple entities to jointly train models on vertically partitioned datasets without revealing private information. While recent years have seen substantial research on privacy vulnerabilities and defense strategies for VFL, the focus has primarily been on passive scenarios where attackers adhere to the protocol. This perspective undermines the practical threats since the attackers can deviate from the protocol to improve their inference capabilities. To address this gap, our study introduces two innovative data reconstruction attacks designed to compromise data privacy in an active setting. Essentially, both attacks modify the gradients computed during the training phase of VFL to breach privacy. Our first attack uses an Active Inversion Network exploiting a small portion of known data in the training set to coerce the passive participants into training an auto-encoder for the reconstruction of their private data. The second attack, Active Generative Network, utilizes the knowledge of the training data distribution to guide the system into training a conditional generative network (C-GAN) for feature inferences. Our experiments confirm the efficacy of both attacks in inferring private features from real-world datasets. © 2023 IEEE.

Achieving semantic interoperability in healthcare is one of the significant challenges in the rapidly expanding healthcare sector. On the other hand, IoT in healthcare can provide patient-centric treatment mechanisms to help resolve these issues. When several healthcare organizations are generating heterogeneous medical information, semantic interoperability becomes essential to develop better treatment plans and better medical research. In this article, we discuss the applications of healthcare IoT, a comparative study of existing solution paradigms for achieving semantic interoperability and its enabling technologies. The comprehensive analysis of semantic interoperability has versatile dimensions to meet this, and it establishes deep learning-based directions. In continuing the background work, we proposed a new deep learning model called MedRelBERT with six embeddings to remove linguistic ambiguities in medical documents. As the primary cause of death globally, cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) demand precise and timely prediction to enhance patient outcomes. Other examples of conventional approaches for CVD prediction include statistical models as well as machine learning models such as a single model that often struggle to address complex and comprehensive data from clinical records and Medical Imaging. To address these issues, the concept proposed here is to integrate the medical imaging data with clinical data as new apart from utilizing the hybrid CNN-GRU model to predict cardiovascular diseases with higher accuracy and interpretability. While the GRU module deals with the time sequences of clinical data including past history and other test results, the CNN module is to extract the spatial features from the medical images. Thus, by integrating these modules, it is more accurate to predict the data of the patient as a synergy of spatial and temporal arrangements. Cross-validation techniques and performance indices are used for model training and testing on a diverse data set containing imaging and other clinical-related data. Experimental results depict that the suggested hybrid CNN-GRU model performs much better than the traditional approaches and has higher levels of predicted accuracy and robustness. It is also feasible to generalize this integrated strategy to other medical disorder where multi-modal data analysis is crucial, besides enhancing the capacity to estimate CVDs. The findings underline the importance of integrating doctors' information with radiological images and applying new patterns of neural networks to augmenting clinical judgment. The suggested work is implemented using python. © 2024 IEEE.

Early and precise detection is essential to stop the spread of tuberculosis (TB) and enhance patient outcomes. This research aims to create an automated system that employs cutting-edge image processing and machine-learning approaches to identify tuberculosis (TB) bacilli in sputum smear microscopy pictures. An automated solution is required to increase diagnostic accuracy and efficiency because traditional diagnostic methods are labor-intensive, time-consuming, and prone to human mistakes. In the end, we optimize the best-performing model to reduce processing time while preserving diagnostic accuracy. Our goal is to assess the performance of several models in terms of training time, testing time, and accuracy. By enabling the use of sophisticated diagnostic technologies in environments with limited resources, the suggested method supports international efforts to combat tuberculosis. © 2024 IEEE.
