We consider a multi-user joint rate adaptation and computation distribution problem in a millimeter wave (mmWave) virtual reality (VR) system. The VR system that we consider comprises an edge computing unit (ECU) that serves 360° videos to VR users. We formulate a multi-user quality of experience (QoE) maximization problem, in which VR users are assisted with the ECU to decode/render 360° videos. The ECU provides additional computational resources that can be used for processing video frames, at the expense of increased data volume and required bandwidth. To balance this trade-off, we leverage deep reinforcement learning (DRL) for joint rate adaptation and computational resource allocation optimization. Our proposed method, dubbed Deep VR, does not rely on any predefined assumption about the environment and relies on video playback statistics (i.e., past throughput, decoding time, transmission time, etc.), video information, and the resulting performance to adjust the video bitrate and computation distribution. We train Deep VR with real-world mmWave network traces and 360° video datasets to obtain evaluation results in terms of the average QoE, peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), rebuffering time, and quality variation. Our results indicate that the Deep VR improves the users' QoE compared to state-of-the-art rate adaptation algorithm. Specifically, we show a 3.08 dB to 4.49 dB improvement in video quality in terms of PSNR, a 12.5x to 14x reduction in rebuffering time, and a 3.07 dB to 3.96 dB improvement in quality variation. © 2024 IEEE.

Towards characterizing bug fixes through dependency-level changes in Apache Java open source projects

The complexity and diversity of bug fixes require developers to understand bug fixes from multiple perspectives in addition to fine-grained code changes. The dependencies among files in a software system are an important dimension to inform software quality. Recent studies have revealed that most bug-prone files are always architecturally connected with dependencies, and as one of the best practices in the industry,changes in dependencies should be avoided or carefully made during bug fixing. Hence, in this paper, we take the first attempt to understand bug fixes from the dependencies perspective, which can complement existing code change perspectives. Based on this new perspective, we conducted a systematic and comprehensive study on bug fixes collected from 157 Apache open source projects, involving 140456 bug reports and182621 bug fixes in total. Our study results show that a relatively high proportion of bug fixes(30%) introduce dependency-level changes when fixing the corresponding 33% bugs. The bugs, whose fixes introduce dependency-level changes, have a strong correlation with high priority, large fixing churn, long fixing time,frequent bug reopening, and bug inducing. More importantly, patched files with dependency-level changes in their fixes, consume much more maintenance costs compared with those without these changes. We further summarized three representative patch patterns to explain the reasons for the increasing costs. Our study unveils useful findings based on qualitative and quantitative analysis and also provides new insights that might benefit existing bug prediction techniques. We release a large set of benchmarks and also implement a prototype tool to automatically detect dependency-level changes from bug fixes, which can warn developers and remind them to design a better fix.

Named entity recognition has emerged as a critical step in recognizing, classifying, and extracting the most significant information from unstructured text without human intervention. It is used in information retrieval, conversation systems, machine translation, data mining, and information extraction. However, the Awngi language lacks a NER system due to inadequate datasets. This study combines feature extraction techniques with supervised machine learning algorithms, including support vector machines, Naïve Bayes, and conditional random fields with a grid search algorithm parameter optimization. These supervised machine-learning models often have various hyperparameters that must be tuned to optimize the model's performance by automatically selecting the parameter. Furthermore, the dataset used for training and testing consists of 20,193 annotated Awngi tokens, collected from Amhara Media Corporation, Awngi Telegram, and Facebook pages. The proposed SVM with grid search algorithm approach provided a promising result in ANER with an accuracy of 92% compared with Naïve Bayes, conditional random field, and decision-tree supervised machine learning models. Finally, the experiment results show that the proposed parameter tuning-based model can detect and categorize Awingi-named entities and outperforms the performance accuracy without parameter adjustment. © 2024 IEEE.

The medical community has more concern on lung cancer *** experts’physical segmentation of lung cancers is time-consuming and needs to be *** research study’s objective is to diagnose lung tumors at an early stage to extend the life of humans using deep learning ***-Aided Diagnostic(CAD)system aids in the diagnosis and shortens the time necessary to detect the tumor *** application of Deep Neural Networks(DNN)has also been exhibited as an excellent and effective method in classification and segmentation *** research aims to separate lung cancers from images of Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI)with threshold *** Honey hook process categorizes lung cancer based on characteristics retrieved using several *** this principle,the work presents a solution for image compression utilizing a Deep Wave Auto-Encoder(DWAE).The combination of the two approaches significantly reduces the overall size of the feature set required for any future classification process performed using *** proposed DWAE-DNN image classifier is applied to a lung imaging dataset with Radial Basis Function(RBF)*** study reported promising results with an accuracy of 97.34%,whereas using the Decision Tree(DT)classifier has an accuracy of 94.24%.The proposed approach(DWAE-DNN)is found to classify the images with an accuracy of 98.67%,either as malignant or normal *** contrast to the accuracy requirements,the work also uses the benchmark standards like specificity,sensitivity,and precision to evaluate the efficiency of the *** is found from an investigation that the DT classifier provides the maximum performance in the DWAE-DNN depending on the network’s performance on image testing,as shown by the data acquired by the categorizers themselves.

5G wireless communication offers higher channel capacity, high data rate, sufficient bandwidth, enhanced coverage, and reliable link as compared to the previous generation mobile networks. Also, 5G becomes more relevant with the recent launches of low earth orbit satellites by various ventures like starlink, amazon, one web, etc. As these satellites have heights up to the range from 300 km to 1000 km, the free space path loss decreases drastically which in turn improves the signal reliability and efficient communication at dead spots. With these advancements, antenna researchers have the freedom to design compact, easy to manufacture, with adequate gain user equipment terminal antennas which can be easily integrated in the modern passenger car body. This paper will focus on the recent development in the design considerations of the compact antenna design at sub-6 GHz (n78 frequency band) and mm wave (n278 frequency band) according to 3gpp standards. This manuscript also discusses various design specifications like selection of material for antennas, design complexity, feeding methods, fabrication and measurement challenges and performance parameters which include reflection coefficient, gain, polarization, axial ratio, cross polarization discrimination, radiation efficiency, radiation pattern shape, etc. The proposed antenna design considerations will facilitate the possible integration into the various parts of the car body according to the recent vehicular applications for uninterrupted communication. © 2024, Electromagnetics Academy. Sign language enhances the communication capabilities of the deaf-mute community, allowing for a deeper understanding of their needs and emotions. These languages are highly structured and visual, using gestures and various upper body movements such as those of the hands, face, eyes, and gaze. Researchers face numerous challenges in recognizing and translating the diverse variations in sign movements, which requires specialized expertise in computer vision and artificial intelligence. Sign language recognition and translation research has garnered global attention. This research work introduces a novel methodology for generating sign gesture videos from text inputs by integrating various intelligent techniques. The proposed model employs an enhanced generative adversarial network (GAN) to create sign videos from input sentences. Experiments with the proposed VideoGAN model using diverse sign language datasets from multiple countries have demonstrated its effectiveness. The research outcomes highlight its contribution to high-quality video production, with improved evaluation metrics underscoring the model's superior performance. © 2024 IEEE.

Breast cancer is a condition brought on by the uncontrollable growth and multiplication of aberrant cells in the breast tissue. The misdiagnosis of breast cancer can result in needless or delayed therapies, mental and physical health, increased anxiety and stress, and decreased survival rates for patients. Also, the exchange of healthcare data is difficult to secure due to strict privacy laws, online threats, and the possibility of human error. Blockchain technology can enhance the security and privacy of patient data, give patients greater control over their health data, and facilitate safe data exchange between healthcare providers. In this study, we propose a Blockchain-based Ensemble Deep Learning Model method that can classify Breast Cancer either Malignant or Benign. This method is built on combining different breast cancer classification ANN models and sharing them through blockchain to use their weights to train and optimize the performance of a final model. This model achieved 98% accuracy, and showed a promising in protecting patients from fatal diagnosis mistakes. © 2024 IEEE.

This research paper presents the development of a weather forecasting model that incorporates real-time data through Application Programming Interfaces. This model utilises simple algorithms to analyse meteorological parameters from diverse API data sources, aiming to improve forecast accuracy compared to traditional methods. Extensive datasets are used for training and validation, demonstrating the model's effectiveness in providing more precise predictions. The study highlights the significance of API integration in advancing weather forecasting methodologies and fostering innovation in the field. Ovarian cancer is a global health concern due to the unavailability of an effective screening strategy and is often diagnosed at a late stage with approximately 70% of the case which reduces the survival chances of patients. Initial diagnosis is challenging due to inconspicuous symptoms in its initial stages which complicate its timely diagnosis. Regular screenings, such as pelvic exams, ultrasounds, and blood tests targeting specific biomarkers can be helpful for early diagnosis. In addition, the use of machine learning models can help automate this process thereby assisting medical experts for accurate diagnosis. This study aims at timely and accurate detection of ovarian cancer using a transfer learning approach that uses the MobileNet model. Moreover, the Chi-square technique is used to extract the most impactful features for better accuracy. For experiments, the Soochow University ovarian cancer dataset is employed. Extensive experiments are performed using all features from the dataset, as well as, using Chi-square-based selective features. The best accuracy of 90.88% is achieved with the Xception model when all features are used. Experimental results show a substantial increase when selective features are used indicating a 98.49% accuracy using the MobileNet model with 20 most important features. In addition, precision, recall, and F1 scores of 99.13%, 99.27%, and 99.20% are obtained showing the model’s robustness and generalization. This study also employs Shapley additive explanations to explain the importance of various features toward the model’s output thereby providing transparency for the model’s decision-making process. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.
