LIME: Long-Term Forecasting Model for Desalination Membrane Fouling to Estimate the Remaining Useful Life of Membrane 1

Membrane fouling is one of the major problems in desalination processes as it can cause a severe drop in the quality and quantity of the permeate water. This paper presents a data-driven approach for long-term forecasting of fouling behavior in membrane-based desalination processes. The proposed Long-term forecastIng ModEl (LIME) consists of two intertwined machine learning models trained separately by historical operating conditions of ultrafiltration for pretreatment of reverse osmosis seawater where transmembrane pressure is used as a fouling indicator. The first model predicts the increase in fouling due to filtration. This output is fed to the second model to predict the fouling reduction due to membrane cleaning. In turn, this output is used as the initial fouling condition for predicting the next filtration cycle. The forecasted fouling is used to estimate the membrane’s remaining useful life (RUL), which ends when cleaning no longer reduces the fouling below a safety threshold. Evaluation results show that the model can predict the membrane fouling for 1400 cycles with an R-squared score of 0.8. Moreover, the RUL is estimated for various thresholds with an average percentage error of 7%. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

This paper explores the application of Surface Electromyography (SEMG) for hand movement classification using machine learning techniques. SEMG signals play a crucial role in sports medicine, rehabilitation, prosthesis control, and medical diagnosis. The study addresses a multi-class problem, extending the dataset with limited prior exploration. Nine features from SEMG signal's time domain are extracted, including Maximum Amplitude, Root Mean Square, Slope Sign Change, Variance, Simple Square Integral, Zero Crossing, Waveform Length, and Willison Amplitude. Linear Discriminant Analysis is employed for dimensionality reduction as a feature selection technique. The proposed algorithm achieves an overall classification accuracy of 72% for the classification of six different hand movements performed by five healthy subjects using Support Vector Machines. This research contributes to the advancement of SEMG-based hand movement classification in various practical applications. © 2024 IEEE.

Decision-making is crucial in fully autonomous vehicle operations and is expected to greatly influence future transportation systems. Observing the current driving status of autonomous vehicles is vital for its decision-making process. The autonomous connected vehicles on the road send significant data about their movements to the server to maintain continuous training. With the Proof of Authority (PoA) consensus process, blockchain technology provides a valid, decentralised and secure option to improve transactions throughput and minimise delay. The limited computational capacity of vehicles poses a challenge in achieving high accuracy and low latency while training self-driving algorithms. GPT-4V surpassed challenging autonomous systems in scene interpretation and causal thinking. GPT-4V has ability to navigate circumstances without access to database, interpret intentions, and make sound decisions in real-world driving scenarios. The reward function and different driving conditions are organised to allow an optimal search to find the most efficient driving style while ensuring safety. The consequences of the Blockchain-enabled decision-making model (DMM) for Self-Driving Vehicles (SDV) primarily based on GPT-4V and Federated Reinforcement Learning (FRL) would, likely, upgrades in decision-making accuracy, operational performance, statistics integrity, and potentially enhanced learning skills in SDV. Integrating blockchain technology, superior language modelling GPT-4V and FRL may lead to multiplied safety, reliability, and decision-making ability in SDV. This study utilised the Simulation of Urban MObility (SUMO) simulator to assess the ability of SDV to maintain its desired speed consistently and securely in a highway setting using proposed DMM. This study indicates that the suggested DMM, utilising the driving state evaluation approach for SDV, can help these vehicles operate safely and effectively. Heart disease describes a group of conditions that affect the heart and there are many different factors including lifestyle, medical history, family history, and so on that may cause this complex disease. It is therefore important to consider multiple criteria, such as smoking status, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels to make informed decisions about patient priority management and treatment of HD. Multicriteria Decision Making (MCDM) allows us to identify and weigh the importance of each criterion. This approach can enhance the quality of patient care and improve clinical outcomes. Therefore, weighting HD criteria using MCDM is an essential step in achieving better healthcare outcomes in the management of HD. The FWZIC method was used in this study to weigh 11 heart disease parameters with the assistance of four cardiologists. The results of the criterion weights were without any difference in the preferences of the respective expert. Therefore, this method is flexible, robust, and useful in complex real-world problems. © 2023 IEEE.

Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) take vital role in intelligent transportation systems, but they face challenges due to dynamic network topology, impacting communication efficiency, especially with increasing active nodes. Security and privacy concerns are paramount, necessitating authentication to ensure only legitimate vehicles access the network. Secure vehicular clustering offers a solution, yet the number of clusters affects network dependability and efficiency. To tackle this, we present a secure clustering mechanism using Bat optimization algorithm, mimicking echolocation behavior to optimize clusters. We introduce an authentication technique for cluster heads to admit approved members, enhancing vehicular authentication. Simulations using MATLAB evaluate our approach, showing improved performance in end-to-end delay, overhead, and cluster head count compared to similar methods. © 2024 IEEE.

Chronic Heart Disease (CHD) is the main reason for mortality around the world, constituting about 15% of all natural deaths, which confirms the importance of early detection to mitigate these rates. CHD can be detected by measuring multiple health parameters such as blood pressure, SpO2, ECG, and other parameters. Therefore, there is a persistent need for effective and precise prediction methods. Traditional techniques for prediction and analysis are limited due to the complexity of the data and correlations. First approach for developing these techniques is by using machine learning (ML) algorithms. ML can examine vast amounts of patient information, including medical records, test outcomes, and imaging scans to identify patterns and predict the possibility of developing heart disease or having a cardiac event. This study aims to improve the accuracy of prediction by utilizing ML techniques to predict CHD using medical data, reduce the incidence of misdiagnosis, and ultimately save lives. Supervised learning techniques, such as Support Vector Machine (SVM), Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), AdaBoost, Logistic Regression (LR), K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) and others are employed to identify correlations in CHD data and enhance prediction rates. The results indicate that SVM-derived probabilistic models outperform other algorithms in predicting CHD and the accuracy of the model was 96.2%, as revealed through various performance evaluation metrics. © 2023 IEEE.

The human brain has a simple time analyzing and processing images. The brain is able to rapidly deconstruct and distinguish an image's various components when the eye perceives it. With the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) as its foundation, this research suggests deep learning conceptual models. When the algorithms are compared, it becomes clear that CNN-based classification of handwritten alphabets performs better than other algorithms in terms of accuracy. The Manual Net, Alex Net, and LeNet Architectures are among the CNN algorithms employed in this research. The convulational layer, max pooling, flattening, feature assortment, rectifier lined unit, and completely linked softmaxx layers are each components of the aforementioned designs. The proposed network is tested using an image dataset comprising 530 training photos and 2756 testing images. The top precision and cost-efficient model will be used in the Django context to build a handler line for supplying the appeal to be recognized and obtaining the productivity outcome of recognized appeal. © 2024 IEEE.
