A distributed medium access control (D-MAC) protocol has been proposed to support high-rate wireless personal area networks (HR-WPANs) by the WiMedia Alliance. The WiMedia D-MAC solves the problems of the IEEE 802.15.3 MAC caused its centralized architecture. However, due to mobility of WiMedia devices in multi-hop environment, DRP (distributed reservation protocol) reservation conflicts happen frequently among devices within three-hop range distance. To solve this problem, we propose a new DRP reservation scheme using a new 2-hop range DRP availability IE for three-hop mobility support in WiMedia MAC with ultrawideband (UWB) technology. It is shown by simulation results that throughputs of devices at frequent three-hop range DRP reservation conflicts are largely increased.

The proposed strategy employs real time data in the computation of a voltage stability index for voltage stability monitoring and control. The index chosen allows for the fast evaluation of the voltage stability margin for real-time assessment. A fast control operation based on fuzzy logic control is used to determine the VAr compensation required for the mitigation of occurrences of voltage instability.

Recently lifestyle‐related diseases have become an object of public concern, while at the same time people are being more health conscious. As an essential factor for causing the lifestyle‐related diseases, we assume that the knowledge circulation on dietary habits is still insufficient. This paper focuses on everyday meals close to our life and proposes a well‐balanced menu planning system as a preventive measure of lifestyle‐related diseases. The system is developed by using a Web‐based frontend and it provides multi‐user services and menu information sharing capabilities like social networking services (SNS). The system is implemented on a Web server running Apache (HTTP server software), MySQL (database management system), and PHP (scripting language for dynamic Web pages). For the menu planning, a genetic algorithm is applied by understanding this problem as multidimensional 0–1 integer programming.

IVUS-derived virtual histology (VH) permits the assessment of atherosclerotic plaque morphology by using radiofrequency analysis of ultrasound signals. However, it requires the acquisition to be ECG-gated, which is a major limitation of VH. Indeed, its computation can only be performed once per cardiac cycle, which significantly decreases the longitudinal resolution of VH. To overcome this limitation, the introduction of an image-based plaque characterization is of great importance. Current IVUS image processing techniques do not allow adequate identification of the coronary artery plaques. This can be improved by defining appropriate features for the different kinds of plaques. In this paper, a novel feature extraction method based on Run-length algorithm is presented and used for improving the automated characterization of the plaques within the IVUS images. The proposed feature extraction method is applied to 200 IVUS images obtained from five patients. As a result an accuracy rate of 77% was achieved. Comparing this to the accuracy rates of 75% and 71% obtained using co-occurrence and local binary pattern methods respectively indicates the superior performance of the proposed feature extraction method.

This paper presents adaptive neural tracking control for a class of non-affine pure-feedback systems with multiple unknown state time-varying delays. The separation technique is introduced to decompose unknown functions of all time-varying delayed states into a series of continuous functions of each delayed state. A novel Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional is employed to compensate for the unknown function of current delayed state, which is effectively free from any restrictive assumption on unknown time-delay functions. The paper described a structure of three modules diagnosis system for detecting and identifying faults that occur in the sensor and actuator of control systems with input and output signals related to the component itself. The diagnosis algorithm consists of three steps; firstly, generalized morphological filter with multi-structure elements is designed to filter the random noise and impulse noise in sensor's and actuator's input and output signals. And secondly, wavelet transform, which has been proposed for sensor's fault diagnosis some years ago, is developed for control system (sensor and actuator). To effectively extract the abruptly fault characteristic, a wavelet transform was used to analyze the filtered signals in this paper. By the multi resolution analyzing (MRA), the faults can be detected accurately. Thirdly, according to calculating the Lipschitz exponent (LE) at the fault's point, the fault type can be identified. The super-heated temperature control system has been studied. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated by the means of experimental results and simulations.
