The Modular Multilevel Converter-based High Voltage Direct Current (MMC-HVDC) transmission system has become the most commonly used transmission technology in DC transmission projects. In order to save transmission and distribution costs, it often employs a half-bridge submodule combined with a DC circuit breaker for isolating DC-side short-circuit faults. The DC circuit breaker is crucial equipment for DC fault isolation. During a short-circuit fault on the DC side, the current can quickly exceed several times its rated value within milliseconds. Hybrid DC circuit breakers efficiently and safely interrupt DC power. However, traditional hybrid DC circuit breakers, which use IGBTs as forced commutation switches, incur high costs and suffer from kilowatt-level power losses. Therefore, this paper proposes a low conduction loss DC circuit breaker topology with bidirectional interruption capability. It utilizes thyristors and diode bridges as forced commutation switches and designs thyristor turn-off circuits and capacitor pre-charging strategies. The proposed topology offers advantages of high interruption efficiency, low conduction losses, and low cost. Simulation verification using the PSCAD/EMTDC platform confirms the effectiveness of the proposed topology.

This paper investigates the observer-based sliding mode control (SMC) problem for interconnected systems under the constrained bit rate and weighted try-once-discard (WTOD) protocol. The bandwidth of the digital communication network is measured by the bit rate. With limited network bandwidth, a WTOD protocol is introduced to reduce the length of the transmitted sensor data to reduce the bit rate consumption and improve the decoded accuracy. The selected data components under the WTOD protocol are compressed and transmitted to the observer side by the designed encoding-decoding mechanism. Then, an observer-based SMC strategy is developed under a decoded output-based observer and a normal sliding surface. Some sufficient conditions are provided to ensure that the closed-loop system is exponentially ultimately bounded (EUB) while the system trajectories can be driven into a specific sliding domain. Finally, a two-area power system is exploited to validate the effectiveness of the developed control algorithm.

Globally, the circular efficiency of biomass resources has become a priority due to the depletion and negative environmental impacts of fossil fuels. This study aimed to quantify the atmosphere-dependent combustion of Ganoderma lucidum (GL) biomass and its thermodynamic and kinetic parameters toward enhancing its circularity and transformability characteristics. The GL combustion occurred in the three stages of moisture removal, volatile release, and coke combustion. Combustion performance characteristics were more favorable in the N2/O2 atmosphere than in the CO2/O2 atmosphere under the same heating rates. The rising heating rate facilitated the release of volatiles. According to the model-free methods of Ozawa-Flynn-Wall and Kissinger–Akahira–Sunose, the activation energies essential for the primary reaction were 283.09 kJ/mol and 288.28 kJ/mol in the N2/O2 atmosphere and 233.09 kJ/mol and 235.64 kJ/mol in the CO2/O2 atmosphere. The gaseous products of the GL combustion included CH4, H2O, C = O, CO, CO2, NH3, C = C, and C–O(H). Ash prepared in both atmospheres exhibited a tendency for slag formation, with oxy-fuel combustion lowering its risk. This study thus provides a theoretical and practical basis for transforming GL residues into a sustainable energy source. The development of technology accelerates the upgrade of products, which results in a significant number of obsolete products. This research aims to solve the multirobotic multiproduct U-shaped disassembly line balancing problem (M2UDP), in which different products are disassembled on a U-shaped model in a preset cycle time and assigned tasks to robots in each workstation reasonably. A linear mixed-integer model is established to maximize disassembly profit and minimize carbon emissions. An improved multiobjective multiverse optimizer (IMMO) that utilizes the sigmoid activation function in neural networks is proposed to find the optimal plan for the model. The improved algorithm is verified via a set of real-life instances and compared with three classical multiobjective optimization algorithms. The experimental results show that the proposed IMMO performs better than those peers in solving the M2UDP problems. © 2023 IEEE.

Education is one of the most critical fields in people's life that largely affects the development and progress of societies, and different methods are used to transfer the knowledge and information to the students, usually under the guidance of some educators. The use of images and visual displaying methods in education is of actual worth;visual means help us learn, explain tough concepts, and attract attention. The visual content is either displayed in a two-dimensional '2D' way which may include some problems, or in a three-dimensional '3D' way that is considered the proper way to display the visual information because it corresponds to human vision. Hologram technology is the one of the technologies that display 3D visual content, usually, depending on the reflections of light or laser beams so that people are able to see the 3D content directly with their eyes. The usage of Hologram technology in education as a tool to display visual information in a three-dimensional way outperforms other used ways and is considered to positively affect educational outcomes. Given the situation in which information is transferred from the teacher to students in education and using Hologram's technology to display visual educational content to them, teachers face a difficulty in the process of controlling the display of content on the Hologram projector while teaching students. This research studies the development of the process of controlling the display of the Holograms on the Hologram projector and gives teachers the ability to control the device using the voice commands. © 2022 IEEE.

In order to meet requirements of high speed, low energy consumption and low latency of resource allocation in multi-cell cellular networks, an unsupervised learning based resource allocation method is proposed. The unsupervised learning based resource allocation method contains an unsupervised learning based power control neural network (NNPC) and an unsupervised learning based channel allocation neural network (NNCA). The NNPC is constructed to output optimized channel power to maximize the expectation of linear weighted sum of transmission rate and energy efficiency, and the NNCA is constructed to combine the NNPC to further optimize the expectation of linear weighted sum of transmission rate and energy efficiency. The simulation results show that the proposed method can obtain better transmission rate and energy efficiency than other algorithms under the premise of ensuring low delay. © 2021 IEEE.

An Incentive Framework for Task Offloading in Edge Computing Marketplaces under Price Competition

To efficiently execute tasks, computation resource requesters (CRRs) with limited resources can offload their tasks to nearby computation resource providers (CRPs) with spare computing capacity. These CRPs require appropriate incentives to compensate for their incurred costs when helping process the offloaded tasks. Although several mechanisms have been designed to incentivize CRPs, none of them have investigated the incentive mechanism considering price-setting and price-taking CRPs simultaneously. In this work, we propose an incentive framework for task offloading in the edge computing marketplace that includes both price-setting and price-taking CRPs. We model the CRR's interactions with both types of CRPs as a three-stage Stackelberg game to maximize the profit for both the CRR and CRPs. We prove the existence of a unique subgame perfect equilibrium (SPE) of the formulated game and further develop iterative algorithms for the CRR and price-setting CRPs to achieve the equilibrium. Through the designed algorithms, each CRP does not require complete information about the CRR and other CRPs. Extensive simulations demonstrate that offloading tasks to both price-setting and price-taking CRPs achieves higher profits for the CRR and price-setting CRPs compared to offloading tasks solely to price-setting CRPs. Additionally, the obtained SPE can achieve near-optimal social welfare. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

The technology of reconfigurable optical networks (RONs) is growing to be a promising solution to effectively cater to the rapidly increasing traffic generated by the digital society. Optical technology emerges as a viable alternative because to its capacity to offer a substantial bandwidth, little latency, and enhanced overall performance. Nevertheless, it is imperative to effectively manage the physical resources comprising a data center. This study provides an experimental demonstration of the RONs, which is enhanced by a control plane. The implementation relies on the monitoring of real-time network statistics. This enables the execution of various activities, including as network slice provisioning and reconfiguration, assignment of packet priority classes, and dynamic operations. These actions are performed to ensure the attainment of the desired Quality of Service level. The experimental results show the successfully implementation of RONs using Mininet Emulator and sFlow traffic monitoring technology. The results approve that optical datacenter has minimum delay with low OSNR even with long distance and fast switching time. © 2023 IEEE.

Metaheuristic optimization algorithms present an effective method for solving several optimization problems from various types of applications and *** metaheuristics and evolutionary optimization algorithms have been emerged recently in the literature and gained widespread attention,such as particle swarm optimization(PSO),whale optimization algorithm(WOA),grey wolf optimization algorithm(GWO),genetic algorithm(GA),and gravitational search algorithm(GSA).According to the literature,no one metaheuristic optimization algorithm can handle all present optimization *** novel optimization methodologies are still *** Al-Biruni earth radius(BER)search optimization algorithm is proposed in this *** proposed algorithm was motivated by the behavior of swarm members in achieving their global *** search space around local solutions to be explored is determined by Al-Biruni earth radius calculation method.A comparative analysis with existing state-of-the-art optimization algorithms corroborated the findings of BER’s validation and testing against seven mathematical optimization *** results show that BER can both explore and avoid local *** has also been tested on an engineering design optimization *** results reveal that,in terms of performance and capability,BER outperforms the performance of state-of-the-art metaheuristic optimization algorithms.
