This paper describes the synthesis of robust and non-fragile H/sup /spl infin// state feedback controllers for linear systems with time delay and parameter uncertainties, and static state feedback controller with multiplicative uncertainty. The sufficient condition of controller existence, the design method of robust and non-fragile H/sup /spl infin// state feedback controller, and the measure of non-fragility in controller are presented. Also, using some changes of variables and Schur complements, the obtained sufficient condition can be rewritten as an linear matrix inequality form in terms of transformed variables. Therefore, the obtained robust and non-fragile H/sup /spl infin// controller guarantees the asymptotic stability and disturbance attenuation of the closed loop system in spite of controller gain variations within a degree.

This paper present a new effective algorithm for the optimal realization of sampled-data SISO two order controller structures using the delta operator subject to Finite-Word-Length (FWL) constraints. The problem is formulated as a non-linear programming problem with a maximum of four independent variables to provide an easy and efficient optimization tool to solve such complex problems. Simulation results of the optimum FWL realizations of digital SISO two order controller structure applied to an electrohydraulic actuator system are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.

In this paper, we propose an robust controller design of rapid thermal processing (RTP) system using the structured uncertainty approach. Using the weighted mixed sensitivity function, we solve the robust stability problem against disturbance and temperature variation, and design a /spl mu/ controller using the curve fitting method against structured uncertainty. Finally, the simulation results are proposed to show the validity of the proposed method.

作者： Leite, MJ Mensh, DR Michael J. Leite:is a Principal Engineer with PRC Inc. a division of Litton Industries. He supports combat system engineering for theater air and missile defense. His other tasks have included the command and control for the AEGIS shipbuilding program systems engineering for the 21st Century Surface Combatant combat system survivability and the development of NATO standardization agreements for naval ordnance. He was previously a Senior Engineer with San Diego Gas & Electric with responsibility for its energy application and lighting programs. Prior to joining SDG&E Mr. Leite was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy where he served in operations and engineering assignments. Following active duty he accepted a Naval Reserve commission and has retired with the rank of Captain. His assignments included command operational and engineering tours. Mr. Leite has also served as an expert witness in admiralty and engineering matters. He is a gradate of the University of California Berkeley with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and also holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from National University in San Diego. Mr. Leite is a Registered Professional Engineer in the States of California and Minnesota. Mr. Leite is a member of ASNE ASCE MORS the Illuminating Engineering Society and the U.S. Naval institute. Dennis Roy Mensh:is a Senior Engineer with PRC Inc. a division of Litton Industries in Crystal City VA where he supports modeling and simulation tasking for combat systems. He received BS and MS degrees in applied Physics from Lopola College in Baltimore MD and the American University in Washington DC. He has also completed the course work towards a Ph.D. degree in computer science specializing in the fields of Operations Reseurch Anabsis Systems Analysis and Computer Modeling and Simulation. Previously he was employed at the White Oak Laboratory of the Naval Surface Warfare Carter in Silver Spring MD where he worked in the areas of naval sensor and weapon system analysis

This paper defines, develops and examines a set of generic analysis tools that can be applied to Models and Simulations at the Systems engineering level of fidelity. The tools examine the performance and effectiveness of Sensors;Weapons;and Battle Management, Command, control, Communications, computers, and Intelligence ((BMCI)-I-4) systems and equipment. The Measures of Performance (MOPs), Measures of Effectiveness (MOEs) and Measures of Force Effectiveness (MOFEs) were extracted from the Modular Command and control Structure Paradigm which was developed at the Naval Postgraduate School. The paradigm provides for the development of evaluation criteria (MOPs, MOEs, and MOFEs) in a framework that ensures the traceability of system performance and effectiveness to the system operational requirements as specified in the Operational Requirements Document (ORD). Also, the analysis tools provide insight and valid estimates of numerical measures of the defined system functionality threads, which represent the system's operational requirements as specified in the ORD. The tools are directly transferrable and applicable to test and evaluation exercise events which are conducted in support of the development and acquisition of systems and equipment. Once the levels of system performance have been defined, the Paradigm generates a quantitative database that becomes a useful tool in system tradeoffs and selection. Once the alternative system suites have been defined, the suites can be analyzed in terms of system functionality threads and their corresponding performance capabilities versus cost.

This paper presents a control method for the contact motion of the one link flexible arm. Our purpose is to accomplish the smooth transition from the free space to the constraint space without changing control laws at a collision. We design the controller based on the model following servo system with two additional compensators: one is the stabilizing compensation based on a strain feedback, and the other is the approaching velocity compensation based on an angle feedback. In order to improve the force tracking performance, we determine the angle feedback gain so as to minimize the performance index. Some experimental results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

One of the main goals in the operation of a cupola furnace is to keep the molten iron properties within prescribed bounds while maintaining the most economical operation for the cupola. We present a procedure to obtain the nominal values for the manipulated process variables. The nominal values are calculated by solving a constrained nonlinear programming optimization problem. Two different optimization problems are discussed and examples for using the procedure are presented.

Based on the concept of power converter fed machines (CFMs), high power density machines with nonsinusoidal current and back EMF waveforms are attracting more and more research interest. In this paper, a novel type of axial flux circumferential current permanent magnet (AFCC) machine topology is introduced. A sizing equation analysis, finite element analysis, optimization of parameters, performance simulation, details of the prototype and test data are included. In addition, a comparison of the power densities between the AFCC machine and the traditional induction machine based on the sizing and power density equations is also provided. Alternative manufacturing arrangements and the method to reduce torque ripple are discussed.
