The exploitation of finite spectrum resources is being addressed by the new technology known as Cognitive Radio (CR). It has emerged as a potential remedy for the spectrum shortage problem in the following generation of cellular networks by utilizing opportunities in the time, frequency, and spatial domains. Many group-oriented applications that are created for CRAHN deployment have grown significantly in relevance in recent years. Multicasting is a more effective method for enabling applications that rely on group communication. In contrast to traditional wired multicast routing protocols, multicast routing for CRNs must manage a range of challenges, because of the characteristics of CRNs, such as low bandwidth, mobility, and low power. Learning behavior in legged robots presents a significant challenge due to its inherent instability and complex constraints. Recent research has proposed the use of a large language model (LLM) to generate reward functions in reinforcement learning, thereby replacing the need for manually designed rewards by experts. However, this approach, which relies on textual descriptions to define learning objectives, fails to achieve controllable and precise behavior learning with clear directionality. In this paper, we introduce a new video2reward method, which directly generates reward functions from videos depicting the behaviors to be mimicked and learned. Specifically, we first process videos containing the target behaviors, converting the motion information of individuals in the videos into keypoint trajectories represented as coordinates through a video2text transforming module. These trajectories are then fed into an LLM to generate the reward function, which in turn is used to train the policy. To enhance the quality of the reward function, we develop a video-assisted iterative reward refinement scheme that visually assesses the learned behaviors and provides textual feedback to the LLM. This feedback guides the LLM to continually refine the reward function, ultimately facilitating more efficient behavior learning. Experimental results on tasks involving bipedal and quadrupedal robot motion control demonstrate that our method surpasses the performance of state-of-the-art LLM-based reward generation methods by over 37.6% in terms of human normalized score. More importantly, by switching video inputs, we find our method can rapidly learn diverse motion behaviors such as walking and running. © 2024 The Authors.

The discovery of protein-protein interaction sites (PPIs) is vital for exploring the principle of PPI and understanding the nature of life activities. Developing computational approaches to predict PPIs can effectively compensate for the shortcomings of biological experiments, which are mostly time-consuming and vulnerable to noise. In recent years, deep learning has been used to develop PPIs prediction models. Most of them consider the contextual information of the target amino acid residues and use a local protein sequence to represent the targets. However, the traditional deep-learning techniques, e.g., deep neural networks (DNNs) and convolutional neural networks (CNNs), disregard the important spatial hierarchies contained in the features of protein sequences, leading to their failure to effectively distinguish the interaction sites from different residue regions. In this work, we design MSE-CapsPPISP, a new deep-learning model to address the PPIs prediction with spatial hierarchies. The key idea of MSE-CapsPPISP is to take into account the hierarchical relationships between the features of protein sequences. We characterize the hierarchical relationships by designing a tailored Capsule Network (CapsNet) model, which is a novel type of neural network with vector neurons. Moreover, to make the network representation more robust, MSE-CapsPPISP uses multi-scale CNNs to extract multi-scale features of protein sequences and Squeeze-and-Excitation blocks to recalibrate the features. The validation results show that our MSE-CapsPPISP outperforms the baseline CNNs-based architecture DeepPPISP and other competing schemes in the PPIs prediction task. © 2022 IEEE.

In the past few years, latency-sensitive task computing over the industrial internet of things (IIoT) has played a key role in an increasing number of intelligent applications, such as intelligent self-driving vehicles and unmanned aircraft systems. The edge computing paradigm provides a basic functional infrastructure for across-domain business task computing on distributed edge servers. With this observation, a trade-off between the mobile devices and the fixed edge servers is needed to run moving task computing in a low-latency way. Given this challenge, an intelligent server selection method, named SeeMe, is proposed in this paper. Technically speaking, this method aims at minimizing the communication capacity and the transferring capacity in a multiobjective optimization way to find a low-latency edge server. The experiments and comparison analysis verify the availability of our method. © 2022 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

Mobile edge computing aims to provide cloud-like services on edge servers located near Mobile Devices (MDs) with higher Quality of Service (QoS). However, the mobility of MDs makes it difficult to find a global optimal solution for the coupled service placement and request scheduling problem. To address these issues, we consider a three-Tier MEC network with vertical and horizontal cooperation. Then we formulate the joint service placement and request scheduling problem in a mobile scenario with heterogeneous services and resource limits, and convert it into two Markov decision processes to decouple decisions across successive time slots. We propose a Cyclic Deep Q-network-based Service placement and Request scheduling (CDSR) framework to find a long-Term optimal solution despite future information unavailability. Specifically, to solve the issue of enormous action space, we decompose the system agent and train them cyclically. Evaluation results demonstrates the effectiveness of our proposed CDSR on user-perceived QoS. © 2023 IEEE.

Surveillance systems play an essential role in enhancing security and ensuring safety within society. Public spaces and critical areas are commonly monitored through multi-camera networks for tracking individuals in real-time to enable quick responses to potential security threats. However, variations in lighting, camera angles, and occlusions pose significant challenges to the process of recognizing individuals across multiple camera views. This research proposes a Person Re-Identification (Re-ID) with deep learning and feature extraction method to improve the accuracy of individual matching and identification despite these challenges. This research encompasses multiple neural network topologies, such as ResNet50, ResNet101, and OSNet architectures with traditional computer vision methodologies such as Scale-Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) to examine the body part weighting coefficients and feature selection mechanisms. The results demonstrated that integrating dimensionality reduction via principal component analysis (PCA) coupled with semantic segmentation techniques yields statistically significant improvements in re-identification accuracy. The ResNet101 architecture emerges as the superior methodology, achieving performance with a Rank-1 accuracy of 0.88 and mean Average Precision (mAP) of 0.94 on the test dataset. © 2025 IEEE.

Federated Learning (FL) is a distributed machine learning framework that enhances privacy by enabling multiple participants to train a global model without sharing their raw data. However, FL still faces the threat posed by data and Byzantine attacks (e.g., data poisoning and model poisoning attacks) from malicious clients aimed to decrease the FL global training accuracy. Previous studies have proposed solutions to improve the robustness of FL systems. However, these robust approaches have not effectively defended against Byzantine attacks from malicious clients in non-Independent and Identically Distributed (non-IID) environments, decreasing overall training accuracy. In this work to address this issues, we propose a new defence framework that aims to enhance model accuracy against Byzantine attacks from malicious clients in non-IID environments. In our approach, the central server performs the Inverse Deep Learning Gradient attack using the gradient data submitted by users in each round, obtaining an inversed artificial gradient. We then assess the squared L2 norm difference between this inversed gradient and the actual gradients to detect malicious clients. Simultaneously, we assign weights to each client involved in the aggregation based on differences in the squared L2 norm, aiming to minimize the impact of malicious actors on the overall model. We have experimentally evaluated our method and demonstrated its ability to maintain training accuracy under attack in non-IID environments using standard datasets. © 2024 IEEE.

Knowledge distillation has become a crucial technique for transferring intricate knowledge from a teacher model to a smaller student model. While logit-based knowledge distillation has shown promise, existing methods often overlook the efficient distillation of logits. In this paper, we introduce a novel approach called Class-wise Adaptive Logits Distillation (CALD) based on meta-learning. Our method leverages a meta-network to generate class-adaptive weights, delivering both explicit and implicit knowledge adaptively. By training the meta-network to assign higher weights to specific classes crucial for the student model’s learning from the teacher model, our approach enhances the knowledge transfer process. Experimental results on CIFAR-100 and ImageNet datasets demonstrate that CALD surpasses state-of-the-art knowledge distillation methods, achieving enhanced accuracy and efficiency in transferring knowledge from teacher to student models.

To enhance the generalization of multi-objective feature selection (MOFS) in classification, this paper proposes an evolutionary multitasking algorithm, diverging from previous approaches that exclusively target selected features. The algorithm integrates information from both selected and unselected features, introducing a novel objective to minimize the accuracy of unselected features. This objective, combined with the goal of minimizing classification errors for selected features, forms an auxiliary MOFS task. The paper presents a dual-population evolutionary multitasking framework that synergizes the main MOFS task with the auxiliary task. A knowledge transfer mechanism, based on accuracy preferences, seamlessly shares insights from the auxiliary to the main task, aiming to identify improved Pareto feature subsets. Empirical results demonstrate the superior performance of several state-of-the-art multi-objective algorithms within this framework, highlighting significant improvements across diverse datasets. © 2024 IEEE.
