Background: The FTO gene has been shown to be significantly associated with obesity and body fat content, and Recent studies have suggested that it may be strongly associated with a variety of cancers, including breast cancer, by affecting obesity. The aim of this study was to systematically evaluate the role of the FTO gene in the prevention and treatment of breast cancer and to determine the association between the two by meta-analysis. Method: Relevant literature published between 2019 and January 20, 2024 in five online databases including pubmed and others were systematically searched in this study. Estimates of the association between FTO rs9939609 and breast cancer were determined by Meta-analysis and expressed using Odds ratio (OR) and its 95% confidence interval (95% CI). Results: A total of 16 STUDIES, INCLUDING 6, 039 subjects, were included in this study. Seven FTO-related SNPs were involved in the association between FTO and BC. The overall study quality was moderately low. Meta-analysis showed that FTO rs9939609 all comparison groups (including heterozygous, pure, dominant and recessive) were in significantly associated with BC. Conclusion: The FTO gene can be used as a screening indicator for breast cancer risk, and its use as a target for breast cancer treatment is feasible. More research is needed to support its application to the treatment of breast cancer as well as its prevention in practice. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Colorectal intraepithelial neoplasia is a precancerous lesion of colorectal cancer, which is mainly diagnosed using pathological images. According to the characteristics of lesions, precancerous lesions can be classified into four different grades, i.e., background, normal, low and high level. However, due to the continuity of lesion development, tissue in different stages has high similarity. Recently, visual transformers have achieved impressive results in different visual tasks, due to their capacity of capturing long-range dependencies. However, due to computational cost, transformer cannot well extract detailed feature, which is important for lesion grading. To accurately segment pathological tissues with high similarity, in this work, we embed the multi-head MLP mixer module in the transformer network to extract cell and edge information. Furthermore, we propose a hierarchical MLP decoder to facilitate multi-scale feature fusion. The proposed transformer, namely MLPFormer, achieves remarkable results against competitive baselines on the Histo-CRC Biopsy dataset. The experimental results demonstrate that MLPFormer significantly outperforms the competitive baselines, i.e., a 3% dice improvement is achieved over the SegFormer series. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

In the evolving landscape of supply chain management, the integration of radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology has marked a significant milestone. This development has led to the emergence of a new system in RFID-based supply chain management, which is intricately linked with the advances in the Internet of Things (IoT). RFID technology employs electromagnetic fields to identify and track tags on objects and revolutionizes the management and tracking of items in the supply chain. However, the public communication among RFID tags, RFID readers, and supply chain infrastructure predominantly escalates security and privacy challenges. Several authentication protocols have been proposed to overcome these challenges. However, the vulnerability of most proposed protocols to numerous security attacks renders them inefficient. Therefore, to address these crucial challenges, we devised an RFID-based authentication protocol for supply chain management systems. The incorporation of a physically unclonable function (PUF) into the protocol fortifies the system against physical tampering attacks. To validate the security and effectiveness of the devised protocol, both informal and formal security analysis are conducted. The formal security analysis is conducted using the widely used random oracle model. The informal security analysis reveals that the devised protocol provides enhanced and efficient security features. Furthermore, we perform a comparative analysis with related protocols, focusing on critical performance metrics like communication cost, computation cost, and overall security features. The results of the comparative analysis are promising, indicating a substantial 30.92% reduction in computational cost and a 23.98% reduction in communication cost in comparison to related protocols, thus highlighting the protocol’s superior performance and resource efficiency. © 2014 IEEE.

In contemporary social networks, dynamic privacy protection remains a pivotal yet challenging endeavor due to the intricate and evolving nature of information exchange. Traditional privacy models, predominantly static, falter in effectively safeguarding privacy amidst the complex interplay of continuously changing network interactions and structures. Addressing these deficiencies, this study introduces a novel dynamic privacy protection system anchored by large language model (LLM). Leveraging the natural language processing prowess of LLM, this system excels in real-time, context-sensitive analysis and protection of textual data within vast and variable social networks. By integrating closed-loop control theory, the system adeptly balances robust privacy safeguards with the requisite fluidity of information exchange. Experimental validations on large network datasets illustrate the system’s adeptness in balancing privacy leaks and information distortion through intelligent adaptations to privacy thresholds and strategic noise injection. The outcomes highlight the system’s utility in enhancing data security and operational efficiency, promising significant implications for future applications in broader domains such as mobile computing and IoT. Knowledge distillation has become a crucial technique for transferring intricate knowledge from a teacher model to a smaller student model. While logit-based knowledge distillation has shown promise, existing methods often overlook the efficient distillation of logits. In this paper, we introduce a novel approach called Class-wise Adaptive Logits Distillation (CALD) based on meta-learning. Our method leverages a meta-network to generate class-adaptive weights, delivering both explicit and implicit knowledge adaptively. By training the meta-network to assign higher weights to specific classes crucial for the student model’s learning from the teacher model, our approach enhances the knowledge transfer process. Experimental results on CIFAR-100 and ImageNet datasets demonstrate that CALD surpasses state-of-the-art knowledge distillation methods, achieving enhanced accuracy and efficiency in transferring knowledge from teacher to student models.

TruVRF: Toward Triple-Granularity Verification on Machine Unlearning

The right to be forgotten has incentivized machine unlearning, but a key challenge persists: the lack of reliable methods to verify unlearning conducted by model providers. This gap facilitates dishonest model providers to deceive data contributors. Current approaches often rely on invasive methods like backdoor injection. However, it poses security concerns and is also inapplicable to legacy data—already released data. To tackle this challenge, this work initializes the first non-invasive unlearning verification framework which operates at triple-granularity (class-, volume-, sample-level) to assess the data facticity and volume integrity of machine unlearning. In this paper, we propose a framework, named TruVRF, encompasses three Unlearning-Metrics, each tailored to counter different types of dishonest model providers or servers (Neglecting Server, Lazy Server, Deceiving Server). TruVRF leverages non-invasive model sensitivity to enable multi-granularity verification of unlearning. Specifically, Unlearning-Metric-I checks if the removed class matches the data contributor’s unlearning request, Unlearning-Metric-II measures the amount of unlearned data, and Unlearning-Metric-III validates the correspondence of a specific unlearned sample with the requested deletion. We conducted extensive evaluations of TruVRF efficacy across three datasets, and notably, we also evaluated the effectiveness and computational overhead of TruVRF in real-world applications for the face recognition dataset. Our experimental results demonstrate that TruVRF achieves robust verification performance: Unlearning-Metric-I and -III achieve over 90% verification accuracy on average against dishonest servers, while Unlearning-Metric-II maintains an inference deviation within 4.8% to 8.2%. Additionally, TruVRF demonstrates generalizability across diverse conditions, including varying numbers of unlearned classes and sample volumes. Lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) involves the narrowing of the spinal canal, leading to compression of the spinal cord and nerves in the lower back. Common causes include injuries, degenerative age-related changes, congenital conditions, and tumors, all of which contribute to back pain. Early diagnosis is critical for symptom management, preventing progression, and preserving quality of life. This study systematically reviews AI-based approaches for predicting LSS using MRI axial and sagittal imaging. The review focuses on various AI tasks: detection, segmentation, classification, hybrid approaches, spinal index measurements (SIM), and explainable AI frameworks. The aim is to highlight current knowledge, identify limitations in existing models, and propose future research directions. Following PRISMA guidelines and the PICO method (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome), the review collects data from databases like PubMed, Web of science, scienceDirect, and IEEE Xplore (2005–2024). The Rayyan AI tool is used for duplicate removal and screening. The screening process includes an initial review of titles and abstracts, followed by full-text appraisal. The Meta Quality Appraisal Tool (MetaQAT) assesses the quality of selected articles. Of 1323 records, 97 duplicates were removed. After screening, 895 records were excluded, leaving 331 for full-text review. Among these, 184 articles were excluded for lacking AI relevance. Ultimately, 95 key articles (91 technical papers and 4 reviews) were identified for their contributions to AI-based LSS prediction. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of AI techniques in LSS prediction, guiding future research and advancing understanding in areas like explainable AI and large language models (LLMs). © The Author(s) 2025.

FLEKE: Federated Locate-then-Edit Knowledge Editing

Locate-then-Edit Knowledge Editing (LEKE) is a key technique for updating large language models (LLMs) without full retraining. However, existing methods assume a single-user setting and become inefficient in real-world multi-client scenarios, where decentralized organizations (e.g., hospitals, financial institutions) independently update overlapping knowledge, leading to redundant mediator knowledge vector (MKV) computations and privacy concerns. To address these challenges, we introduce Federated Locate-then-Edit Knowledge Editing (FLEKE), a novel task that enables multiple clients to collaboratively perform LEKE while preserving privacy and reducing computational overhead. To achieve this, we propose FedEdit, a two-stage framework that optimizes MKV selection and reuse. In the first stage, clients locally apply LEKE and upload the computed MKVs. In the second stage, rather than relying solely on server-based MKV sharing, FLEKE allows clients retrieve relevant MKVs based on cosine similarity, enabling knowledge re-edit and minimizing redundant computations. Experimental results on two benchmark datasets demonstrate that FedEdit retains over 96% of the performance of non-federated LEKE while significantly outperforming a FedAvg-based baseline by approximately twofold. Besides, we find that MEMIT performs more consistently than PMET in the FLEKE task with our FedEdit framework. Our code is available at https://***/zongkaiz/FLEKE. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. Unsigned Road Incidents Detection Using Improved RESNET From Driver-View Images

Frequent road incidents cause significant physical harm and economic losses globally. The key to ensuring road safety lies in accurately perceiving surrounding road incidents. However, the highly dynamic nature of traffic introduces significant challenges, particularly in detecting sudden and temporary incidents. In this article, we propose a novel detection framework, multihead attention ResNet with dynamic bottleneck (DB_RESNET_MHA), to identify physical unsigned road incidents. Our approach introduces three key innovations. First, we develop a tailored data augmentation strategy to create images that closely mimic the complex variations found in real-world road environments. Second, we enhance model expressiveness by employing attention mechanisms to nonlinearly integrate convolutional kernels within the residual network. Furthermore, we refine the prediction head by applying spatially distinct attention weights, enabling the model to capture intricate correlations between different features more effectively. To demonstrate the effectiveness of our method, we create a dataset for unsigned road incidents (UnsignRI), comprising a total of 16 323 images that capture 12 distinct types of incidents. It stands out as the most comprehensive dataset in the field, encompassing a wide range of geographical features and incident categories. Experimental results show that DB_RESNET_MHA achieves an average accuracy of 96.2% and a f1-score of 0.955 across various categories of unsigned incidents, surpassing other models. © 2020 IEEE.

Low-light images are typically characterized by low pixel intensity and color distortion, presenting a significant challenge for accurate 3D reconstruction with 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS). Traditional 2D enhancement methods fail to maintain consistent illumination, affecting reconstruction quality. We propose Low-Light Gaussian (LLGS), which can directly leverage low-light images for 3D reconstruction and synthesizing normal-light novel views. LLGS incorporates absorptance to simulate light behavior in low-light conditions, assuming objects maintain normal illumination while reflected light intensity attenuates due to absorptance during rendering. This approach enables the capture of authentic color information in dimly lit scenes. LLGS outperforms current enhancement algorithms and Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) in image quality and processing efficiency, making it highly effective for low-light 3D scene reconstruction and novel view synthesis. © 2025 IEEE.
