Anomaly detection aims to find outliers data that do not conform to expected behaviors in a specific scenario, which is indispensable and critical in current safety environments related studies. However, when performing outlier detection on a large-scale multidimensional dataset, most of the traditional methods make no distinctions between classes of outliers and lack the reasoning ability and the explainability of the analysis results, which leads to the low accuracy of global outlier detection and the inability to effectively identify local outliers. In this paper, we propose a fine-grained anomaly detection method which well utilizes isolation forest and knowledge graph reasoning tactics. First, a better extracting data feature method and a more reasonable weighted strategy are used to find global outliers based on the traditional isolation forest algorithm, and then we construct a custom rule base according to the in-depth research and analysis of global abnormal data, and at last the ontology knowledge is reasoned based on such rule base to achieve the detection of local outliers. Through analysis of extensive experiment results, our method could effectively discover more abnormal data without big loss of time costs, has strong generalization, and correspondingly improves the performance for abnormal detection. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

This study introduces an innovative IoT-enabled wearable device tailored for monitoring and providing feedback on stuttering, leveraging advanced machine learning algorithms to enhance precision and real-time responsiveness. The device integrates an array of hardware and software elements, including sensors, microcontrollers, and communication protocols, to accurately capture speech patterns and movements. Utilizing machine learning techniques such as Support Vector Machines (SVM) and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), the device performs real-time analysis to identify stuttering instances. Detailed discussions cover the criteria for selecting machine learning models, the training and testing procedures, and the metrics used for performance evaluation. The prototype underwent extensive testing and validation, showcasing high accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity in differentiating stuttered from fluent speech. User feedback emphasized the ergonomic design, user-friendly interface, and real-time feedback features, highlighting its potential to significantly enhance stuttering therapy outcomes. Comparative analysis with existing solutions revealed the device’s superior performance, indicating strong potential for clinical application. The study discusses the implications for stuttering therapy, acknowledges the limitations, outlines future research directions, and underscores the device’s contributions to personalized and effective stuttering interventions. This research advances the field of assistive technologies in speech therapy and demonstrates the promise of IoT-based wearable devices integrated with machine learning for improving the quality of life for individuals with stuttering disorders.

Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RISs)-assisted technology has the potential to enhance service coverage’ reduce latency, and save energy in Ultra-Reliable and Low-Latency Communications (URLLC) and Enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB) multiplexing systems. However, in URLLC and eMBB multiplexing systems, low-priority eMBB services can experience interruptions from tem-porarily inserted high-priority URLLC services, resulting in significant transmission delays and traffic congestion. Furthermore, varying the services capabilities between different nodes can lead to increased latency and backlog violations. This paper offers an overview of RIS-assisted URLLC and eMBB multiplexing systems, discussing their applications, challenges, and solutions. In this paper, we propose optimizing spectrum sharing and resource allocation based on accurate latency estimation, followed by performing primary simulations to demonstrate the effectiveness.

SpirDet: Towards Efficient, Accurate and Lightweight Infrared Small Target Detector

In recent years, the detection of infrared small targets using deep learning methods has garnered substantial attention due to notable advancements. To improve the detection capability of small targets, these methods commonly maintain a pathway that preserves high-resolution features of sparse and tiny targets. However, it can result in redundant and expensive computations. To tackle this challenge, we propose SpirDet, a novel approach for efficient detection of infrared small targets. Specifically, to cope with the computational redundancy issue, we employ a new dual-branch sparse decoder to restore the feature map. Firstly, the fast branch directly predicts a sparse map indicating potential small target locations (occupying only 0.5% area of the map). Secondly, the slow branch conducts fine-grained adjustments at the positions indicated by the sparse map. Additionally, we design an lightweight DO-RepEncoder based on reparameterization with the Downsampling Orthogonality, which can effectively reduce memory consumption and inference latency. Extensive experiments show that the proposed SpirDet significantly outperforms state-of-the-art models while achieving faster inference speed and fewer parameters. For example, on the IRSTD-1K dataset, SpirDet improves MIoU by 4.7 and has a 7× FPS acceleration compared to the previous state-of-the-art model. The code will be open to the public. © 2024, CC BY.

Due to its powerful representational capabilities, Transformers have gradually become the mainstream model in the field of machine vision. However, the vast and complex parameters of Transformers impede researchers from gaining a deep understanding of their internal mechanisms, especially error mechanisms. Existing methods for interpreting Transformers mainly focus on understanding them from the perspectives of the importance of input tokens or internal modules, as well as the formation and meaning of features. In contrast, inspired by research on information integration mechanisms and conjunctive errors in the biological visual system, this paper conducts an in-depth exploration of the internal error mechanisms of Transformers. We first propose an information integration hypothesis for Transformers in the machine vision domain and provide substantial experimental evidence to support this hypothesis. This includes the dynamic integration of information among tokens and the static integration of information within tokens in Transformers, as well as the presence of conjunctive errors therein. Addressing these errors, we further propose heuristic dynamic integration constraint methods and rule-based static integration constraint methods to rectify errors and ultimately improve model performance. The entire methodology framework is termed as Transformer Doctor, designed for diagnosing and treating internal errors within transformers. Through a plethora of quantitative and qualitative experiments, it has been demonstrated that Transformer Doctor can effectively address internal errors in transformers, thereby enhancing model performance. Surrogate-assisted evolutionary algorithms (SAEAs) have demonstrated promising optimization performance in addressing expensive dynamic optimization problems or expensive multimodal optimization problems. However, none of existing SAEAs are designed specifically for tackling expensive dynamic multimodal optimization problems (EDMMOPs). Therefore, in this paper, a first SAEA for tackling EDMMOPs is proposed. First, a nearest density clustering is designed to divide the population into a number of subpopulations, enhancing the diversity of the population. Then, a surrogate-assisted evolutionary optimizer is developed to construct surrogate models for each subpopulation and evolve all solutions in subpopulations by means of the built surrogate models, accelerating the population's converge towards several optimal solutions rapidly. Finally, a transfer learning-based prediction is devised to generate initial samples for next environment by leveraging the stored training samples in the previous environments. To assess the performance of our proposed algorithm, a set of complex benchmark problems is adopted, and the experimental results confirm its superior performance over several competitive algorithms on most test cases.

STBA: Towards Evaluating the Robustness of DNNs for Query-Limited Black-box Scenario

Extensive studies have revealed that deep neural networks (DNNs) are vulnerable to adversarial attacks, especially black-box ones, which can heavily threaten the DNNs deployed in the real world. Many attack techniques have been proposed to explore the vulnerability of DNNs and further help to improve their robustness. Despite the significant progress made recently, existing black-box attack methods still suffer from unsatisfactory performance due to the vast number of queries needed to optimize desired perturbations. Besides, the other critical challenge is that adversarial examples built in a noise-adding manner are abnormal and struggle to successfully attack robust models, whose robustness is enhanced by adversarial training against small perturbations. There is no doubt that these two issues mentioned above will significantly increase the risk of exposure and result in a failure to dig deeply into the vulnerability of DNNs. Hence, it is necessary to evaluate DNNs' fragility sufficiently under query-limited settings in a non-additional way. In this paper, we propose the Spatial Transform Black-box Attack (STBA), a novel framework to craft formidable adversarial examples in the query-limited scenario. Specifically, STBA introduces a flow field to the high-frequency part of clean images to generate adversarial examples and adopts the following two processes to enhance their naturalness and significantly improve the query efficiency: a) we apply an estimated flow field to the high-frequency part of clean images to generate adversarial examples instead of introducing external noise to the benign image, and b) we leverage an efficient gradient estimation method based on a batch of samples to optimize such an ideal flow field under query-limited settings. Realizing Generalized Zero-Shot Learning (GZSL) based on large models is emerging as a prevailing trend. However, most existing methods merely regard large models as black boxes, solely leveraging the features output by the final layer while disregarding potential performance enhancements from other layers. Indeed, numerous researchers have visually depicted variations in the features learned across different layers of neural networks. Motivated by this observation, we propose a Vision Transformer (ViT)-based GZSL method named Depth-Aware Multi-Modal ViT (DAM2ViT), which exploits multi-level features of ViT. DAM2ViT incorporates a multi-modal interaction block to align semantic information of categories across multiple layers, thereby augmenting the model’s capacity to learn associations between visual and semantic spaces. Extensive experiments conducted on three benchmark datasets (i.e., CUB, SUN, AWA2) have showcased that DAM2ViT achieves competitive results compared to state-of-the-art methods. © 2024 IEEE.

All-to-All Comparison (ATAC) is a key computing mode to improve computing performance and is applied in many disciplines. Through the research on the data distribution strategy of the ATAC calculation, a novel solution framework of the ATAC data distribution strategy based on tabu search is proposed for the first time. An ATAC data distribution model is constructed, and the related algorithms of the model are designed based on the tabu search, and it is implemented on MATLAB. The framework consists of three parts: 1) the driver module responsible for interacting with users;2) the load balancing module that solves the data distribution strategy that meets the load balancing situation;3) the storage optimization module that solves the data distribution strategy that meets the load balancing and optimized storage. Experiments prove that the framework for solving the ATAC data distribution strategy based on tabu search has the following advantages: A) The data distribution strategy obtained by the framework enables the nodes of the distributed system participating in the ATAC calculation to achieve load balancing and complete data localization. B) The data distribution scheme can reduce 40%-50% of the storage space in the distributed system. C) The framework is more advanced than the existing ATAC data distribution algorithm in calculation speed. © 2021 IEEE.

Accelerating Blockchain-Enabled Federated Learning with Clustered Clients

With the rapid development of big data, Federated learning (FL) has found numerous applications, enabling machine learning (ML) on edge devices while preserving privacy. However, FL still faces crucial challenges, such as single point of failure and poisoning attacks, which motivate the integration of blockchain-enabled FL (BeFL). Beyond that, the efficiency issue still limits the further application of BeFL. To address these issues, we propose a novel decentralized framework: Accelerating Blockchain-Enabled Federated Learning with Clustered Clients (ABFLCC), who utilize actual training time for clustering clients to achieve hierarchical FL and solve the single point of failure problem through blockchain. Additionally, the framework clusters edge devices considering their actual training times, which allows for synchronous FL within clusters and asynchronous FL across clusters simultaneously. This approach guarantees that devices with a similar training time have a consistent global model version, improving the stability of the converging process, while the asynchronous learning between clusters enhances the efficiency of convergence. The proposed framework is evaluated through simulations on three real-world public datasets, demonstrating a training efficiency improvement of 30% to 70% in terms of convergence time compared to existing BeFL systems.
