In the age of AI, mobile architectures such as smartphones are still "cold machines"; machines do not feel. If the architecture is able to feel users' feelings and runtime user experience (UX), it will accordingly adapt performance/energy to find the optimal system-operating state that consumes the least energy to satisfy users. In this paper, we will utilize users' facial expressions (FEs) to learn their runtime UX. We know that FEs are the natural and direct way for humans to convey their emotions and feelings. Our study reveals that FEs also reflect UX. Our research for the first time quantifies the link between FEs and UX. Leveraging this link, the architecture will be able to use the front camera to see FEs and feel users' UX. Based on UX, the architecture can appropriately provision computing resources. We propose Vi-energy system to realize the above idea. Our evaluation shows that Vi-energy reduces energy consumption by 52.9% at maximum and secures UX.

TPE for JPEG images with Dynamic M-ary Decomposition and Adaptive Threshold Constraints

Traditional JPEG image encryption that prioritizes solely confidentiality fails to account for the pressing usability requirements of cloud-based environments, thus boosting the boom in thumbnail-preserving encryption (TPE) to balance image privacy and usability. However, existing TPE schemes for JPEG images face numerous challenges, such as insufficient security, inability to achieve lossless decryption, and high file extension. To address these challenges, we propose a TPE scheme based on dynamic M-ary decomposition and adaptive threshold constraints (TPE-MDTC). First, the valid ranges of quantized DC coefficients for JPEG images are determined. Then, a sum-preserving encryption method for quantized DC coefficients with compliance threshold constraints is designed using the bit-plane permutation to preserve thumbnails with high accuracy. Next, the introduction of dynamic M-ary decomposition effectively changes bit statistical characteristics preserved by bit-plane permutation, enhancing the ciphertext security. Finally, a quantized AC encryption method with RV (Run/Value) pair global permutation is proposed, effectively modifying the unit block features, thereby significantly improving the security and attack resistance of encrypted images. Experimental results show that the proposed TPE-MDTC scheme can reconstruct the original JPEG images without loss, and the generated ciphertext images exhibit significant advantages over previous schemes regarding file extension and security. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

With the rapid development of document digitization, people have become accustomed to capturing and processing documents using electronic devices such as smartphones. However, the captured document images often suffer from issues like shadows and noise due to environmental factors, which can affect their readability. To improve the quality of captured document images, researchers have proposed a series of models or frameworks and applied them in distinct scenarios such as image enhancement, and document information extraction. In this paper, we primarily focus on shadow removal methods and open-source datasets. We concentrate on recent advancements in this area, first organizing and analyzing nine available datasets. Then, the methods are categorized into conventional methods and neural network-based methods. Conventional methods use manually designed features and include shadow map-based approaches and illumination-based approaches. Neural network-based methods automatically generate features from data and are divided into single-stage approaches and multi-stage approaches. We detail representative algorithms and briefly describe some typical techniques. Finally, we analyze and discuss experimental results, identifying the limitations of datasets and methods. Future research directions are discussed, and nine suggestions for shadow removal from document images are proposed. To our knowledge, this is the first survey of shadow removal methods and related datasets from document images.

Constraint Boundary Wandering Framework: Enhancing Constrained Optimization with Deep Neural Networks

Constrained optimization problems are pervasive in various fields, and while conventional techniques offer solutions, they often struggle with scalability. Leveraging the power of deep neural networks (DNNs) in optimization, we present a novel learning-based approach, the Constraint Boundary Wandering Framework (CBWF), to address these challenges. Our contributions include introducing a boundary wandering strategy inspired by the active-set method, enhancing equality constraint feasibility, and treating the Lipschitz constant as a learnable parameter. Additionally, we evaluate the regularization term, illustrating that the nonsmooth L2 norm yields superior results. Extensive testing on synthetic datasets and the ACOPT dataset demonstrates CBWF's superiority, outperforming existing deep learning-based solvers in terms of both objective and constraint loss. © 1979-2012 IEEE.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have gained considerable attention as a platform for establishing aerial wireless networks and communications. However, the line-of-sight dominance in air-to-ground communications often leads to significant interference with terrestrial networks, reducing communication efficiency among terrestrial terminals. This paper explores a novel uplink interference mitigation approach based on the collaborative beamforming (CB) method in multi-UAV network systems. Specifically, the UAV swarm forms a UAV-enabled virtual antenna array (VAA) to achieve the transmissions of gathered data to multiple base stations (BSs) for data backup and distributed processing. However, there is a trade-off between the effectiveness of CB-based interference mitigation and the energy conservation of UAVs. Thus, by jointly optimizing the excitation current weights and hover position of UAVs as well as the sequence of data transmission to various BSs, we formulate an uplink interference mitigation multi-objective optimization problem (MOOP) to decrease interference affection, enhance transmission efficiency, and improve energy efficiency, simultaneously. In response to the computational demands of the formulated problem, we introduce an evolutionary computation method, namely chaotic non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II (CNSGA-II) with multiple improved operators. The proposed CNSGA-II efficiently addresses the formulated MOOP, outperforming several other comparative algorithms, as evidenced by the outcomes of the simulations. Moreover, the proposed CB-based uplink interference mitigation approach can significantly reduce the interference caused by UAVs to non-receiving BSs. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. In recent years, the number of traffic accidents in the world has increased sharply. Reasonable mining of the OBD data generated in the process of vehicle driving will help to improve traffic safety. However, the existing driving behavior scoring models have the following shortcomings: the indexes are not comprehensive enough, and the selection of weights is not objective. In order to solve these shortcomings, this paper proposes 16 driving behavior indexes and related definitions;the neural network is used to construct the model to distribute the weight reasonably;a new comprehensive evaluation model of driving behavior is constructed. OFFLINE MODEL-BASED OPTIMIZATION BY LEARNING TO RANK

Offline model-based optimization (MBO) aims to identify a design that maximizes a black-box function using only a fixed, pre-collected dataset of designs and their corresponding scores. This problem has garnered significant attention from both scientific and industrial domains. A common approach in offline MBO is to train a regression-based surrogate model by minimizing mean squared error (MSE) and then find the best design within this surrogate model by different optimizers (e.g., gradient ascent). However, a critical challenge is the risk of out-of-distribution errors, i.e., the surrogate model may typically overestimate the scores and mislead the optimizers into suboptimal regions. Prior works have attempted to address this issue in various ways, such as using regularization techniques and ensemble learning to enhance the robustness of the model, but it still remains. In this paper, we argue that regression models trained with MSE are not well-aligned with the primary goal of offline MBO, which is to select promising designs rather than to predict their scores precisely. Notably, if a surrogate model can maintain the order of candidate designs based on their relative score relationships, it can produce the best designs even without precise predictions. To validate it, we conduct experiments to compare the relationship between the quality of the final designs and MSE, finding that the correlation is really very weak. In contrast, a metric that measures order-maintaining quality shows a significantly stronger correlation. Based on this observation, we propose learning a ranking-based model that leverages learning to rank techniques to prioritize promising designs based on their relative scores. We show that the generalization error on ranking loss can be well bounded. Empirical results across diverse tasks demonstrate the superior performance of our proposed ranking-based models than twenty existing methods. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

With the substantial increase in image transmission,the demand for image security is ***-like images can be obtained by conventional encryption schemes,and although the security of the images can be guaranteed,the noise-like images cannot be directly previewed and *** on the rank-then-encipher method,some researchers have designed a three-pixel exact thumbnail preserving encryption(TPE2)scheme,which can be applied to balance the security and availability of images,but this scheme has low encryption *** this paper,we introduce an efficient exact thumbnail preserving encryption ***,blocking and bit-plane decomposition operations are performed on the plaintext *** zigzag scrambling model is used to change the bit positions in the lower four bit ***,an operation is devised to permute the higher four bit planes,which is an extended application of the hidden Markov ***,according to the difference in bit weights in each bit plane,a bit-level weighted diffusion rule is established to generate an encrypted image and still maintain the same sum of pixels within the *** results show that the proposed scheme improves the encryption efficiency and can guarantee the availability of images while protecting their privacy.

On Two Classes of Extended 3-Lie Algebras

In this paper, based on the existing research results, we obtain the unary extension 3-Lie algebras by one-dimensional extension of the known Lie algebra L. For two known 3-Lie algebras H, M, the (μ, ρ, β)-extension of H through M is given, and the necessary and sufficient conditions for the (μ, ρ, β)-extension algebra of H through M being 3-Lie algebra are obtained, and the structural characteristics and properties of these two kinds of extended 3-Lie algebras are given.
