Kidney stone disease is a serious public health concern that is getting worse with changes in diet, obesity, medical conditions, certain supplements etc. A kidney stone also called a renal calculus, is a hard buildup of urine minerals that form in the kidneys. Computed tomography (CT) is one of the imaging models used to identify kidney stones by clinical experts. Due to the low resolution of these images, sometimes detecting kidney stones is tedious with the naked eye, which may lead to false alarms. In this work, a computer-based diagnosis system with a deep learning technique has been developed as a practical solution to aid clinicians in their diagnosis. The traditional convolutional neural network (CNN)-based deep learning technology can detect stones in the kidney. Still, it suffers from the performance and standard implementation of the convolution operations in convolution layers. A Kronecker product-based convolution technique is incorporated in the proposed deep learning architecture to reduce the redundancy in feature maps without convolution overlapping. Our proposed method helps to make the network more effective by extracting abstract and in-depth features from the input images. The publicly available GitHub kidney stone CT scans are utilized to develop the proposed architecture. Our automated model detected kidney stones with an accuracy of 98.56% utilizing CT images. Our system is more effective than the most recent and cutting-edge techniques developed for identifying kidney stones of any size, including the smallest ones. © 2023 The Author(s)

As the medical aesthetic market is growing rapidly in China, orthodontic treatment is becoming very common among the adolescent population. However, there are countless doctor-patient disputes due to treatment results that do not meet patients' expectations, so there is an urgent need for a method to predict treatment results. With the development of artificial intelligence technology, generative adversarial network has provided us with a new way of thinking. The purpose of this paper is to accurately predict the face of patients after orthodontic treatment by using generative adversarial network. Therefore, we designed an evaluation index to reflect the difference between the algorithm predicted image and the patient's real image. After that, we designed a network based on Encoder-Decoder architecture to transform the vectors in StyleGAN latent space. Finally, we carried out experiments to verify the effectiveness of the evaluation index design and the advantages of the algorithm.

The emergence of sixth-generation and beyond communication systems is expected to fundamentally transform digital experiences through introducing unparalleled levels of intelligence, efficiency, and connectivity. A promising technology poised to enable this revolutionary vision is the wireless large AI model (WLAM), characterized by its exceptional capabilities in data processing, inference, and decision-making. In light of these remarkable capabilities, this paper provides a comprehensive survey of WLAM, elucidating its fundamental principles, diverse applications, critical challenges, and future research opportunities. We begin by introducing the background of WLAM and analyzing the key synergies with wireless networks, emphasizing the mutual benefits. Subsequently, we explore the foundational characteristics of WLAM, delving into their unique relevance in wireless environments. Then, the role of WLAM in optimizing wireless communication systems across various use cases and the reciprocal benefits are systematically investigated. Furthermore, we discuss the integration of WLAM with emerging technologies, highlighting their potential to enable transformative capabilities and breakthroughs in wireless communication. Finally, we thoroughly examine the high-level challenges hindering the practical implementation of WLAM and discuss pivotal future research directions. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. The rapid development of photo-realistic face generation methods has raised significant concerns in society and academia, highlighting the urgent need for robust and generalizable face forgery detection (FFD) techniques. Although existing approaches mainly capture face forgery patterns using image modality, other modalities like fine-grained noises and texts are not fully explored, which limits the generalization capability of the model. In addition, most FFD methods tend to identify facial images generated by GAN, but struggle to detect unseen diffusion-synthesized ones. To address the limitations, we aim to leverage the cutting-edge foundation model, contrastive language-image pre-training (CLIP), to achieve generalizable diffusion face forgery detection (DFFD). In this paper, we propose a novel multi-modal fine-grained CLIP (MFCLIP) model, which mines comprehensive and fine-grained forgery traces across image-noise modalities via language-guided face forgery representation learning, to facilitate the advancement of DFFD. Specifically, we devise a fine-grained language encoder (FLE) that extracts fine global language features from hierarchical text prompts. We design a multi-modal vision encoder (MVE) to capture global image forgery embeddings as well as fine-grained noise forgery patterns extracted from the richest patch, and integrate them to mine general visual forgery traces. Moreover, we build an innovative plug-and-play sample pair attention (SPA) method to emphasize relevant negative pairs and suppress irrelevant ones, allowing cross-modality sample pairs to conduct more flexible alignment. Extensive experiments and visualizations show that our model outperforms the state of the arts on different settings like cross-generator, cross-forgery, and cross-dataset evaluations. The nonlinear relation between the spectral information and the corresponding objects (complex physiognomies) makes pixel-wise classification challenging for conventional methods. To deal with nonlinearity issues in Hyperspectral Image Classification (HISC), Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) are more suitable, indeed. However, fixed kernel sizes make traditional CNN too specific, neither flexible nor conducive to feature learning, thus impacting on the classification accuracy. The convolution of different kernel size networks may overcome this problem by capturing more discriminating and relevant information. In light of this, the proposed solution aims at combining the core idea of 3D and 2D Inception net with the Attention mechanism to boost the HSIC CNN performance in a hybrid scenario. The resulting attention-fused hybrid network (AfNet) is based on three attention-fused parallel hybrid subnets with different kernels in each block repeatedly using highlevel features to enhance the final ground-truth maps. In short, AfNet is able to selectively filter out the discriminative features critical for classification. Several tests on HSI datasets provided competitive results for AfNet compared to state-of-the-art models. The proposed pipeline achieved, indeed, an overall accuracy of 97% for the Indian Pines, 100% for Botswana, 99% for Pavia University, Pavia Center, and Salinas datasets. © 2022, CC BY.

Infectious disease threats to individual and public health are numerous, varied and frequently unexpected. Artificial intelligence (AI) and related technologies, which are already supporting human decision making in economics, medicine and social science, have the potential to transform the scope and power of infectious disease epidemiology. Here we consider the application to infectious disease modelling of AI systems that combine machine learning, computational statistics, information retrieval and data science. We first outline how recent advances in AI can accelerate breakthroughs in answering key epidemiological questions and we discuss specific AI methods that can be applied to routinely collected infectious disease surveillance data. Second, we elaborate on the social context of AI for infectious disease epidemiology, including issues such as explainability, safety, accountability and ethics. Finally, we summarize some limitations of AI applications in this field and provide recommendations for how infectious disease epidemiology can harness most effectively current and future developments in AI. © Springer Nature Limited 2025.

The dynamics of cyber threats are increasingly complex, making it more challenging than ever for organizations to obtain in-depth insights into their cyber security status. Therefore, organizations rely on Cyber Situational Awareness (CSA) to support them in better understanding the threats and associated impacts of cyber events. Due to the heterogeneity and complexity of cyber security data, often with multidimensional attributes, sophisticated visualization techniques are needed to achieve CSA. However, there have been no previous attempts to systematically review and analyze the scientific literature on CSA visualizations. In this paper, we systematically select and review 54 publications that discuss visualizations to support CSA. We extract data from these papers to identify key stakeholders, information types, data sources, and visualization techniques. Furthermore, we analyze the level of CSA supported by the visualizations, alongside examining the maturity of the visualizations, challenges, and practices related to CSA visualizations to prepare a full analysis of the current state of CSA in an organizational context. Our results reveal certain gaps in CSA visualizations. For instance, the largest focus is on operational-level staff, and there is a clear lack of visualizations targeting other types of stakeholders such as managers, higher-level decision makers, and non-expert users. Most papers focus on threat information visualization, and there is a dearth of papers that visualize impact information, response plans, and information shared within teams. Interestingly, we find that only a few studies proposed visualizations to facilitate up to the projection level (i.e., the highest level of CSA), whereas most studies facilitated only the perception level (i.e., the lowest level of CSA). Large-scale, well-annotated datasets are crucial for training deep neural networks. However, the prevalence of noisy-labeled samples can cause irreversible impairment to the generalization of models. Existing approaches have attempted to mitigate the impact of noisy labels by exploiting the different loss or confidence distributions between clean and noisy data to detect and correct noisy labels. This paper investigates the noise-induced distorting effect on foreground localization by tracking the model’s spatial attention distribution on visual activation maps. We observe that in clean samples, highly responsive regions usually focus on label-relevant foreground regions, whereas in noisy data, the model accidentally attends to uninformative background regions or cluttered object edges due to interference from label noise. Inspired by the observations, we propose a novel two-stage foreground localization-augmented noisy label learning framework named FLSC to concurrently boost the accuracy of sample selection and label correction for robust training. Specifically, FLSC first quantifies noise-induced distortion in foreground localization to foster conventional loss-based selection criteria by calculating the information reduction when deriving the foreground images from the original images based on the attention distribution. Next, we propose a noise-adaptive adversarial erasing strategy, which suppresses background activation by imposing adaptive erasure regularization, to eliminate overfitting to noisy samples while enhancing the learning of robust representations. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first attempt to exploit localization quality evaluation based on feature activation to address the label noise problem. Extensive experiments on synthetic and real-world datasets validate the superior performance of FLSC compared to state-of-the-art methods.
