Energy dissipation mechanism and ballistic characteristic optimization in foam sandwich panels against spherical projectile impact

This study systematically examines the energy dissipation mechanisms and ballistic characteristics of foam sandwich panels(FSP)under high-velocity impact using the explicit non-linear finite element *** on the geometric topology of the FSP system,three FSP configurations with the same areal density are derived,namely multi-layer,gradient core and asymmetric face sheet,and three key structural parameters are identified:core thickness(t_(c)),face sheet thickness(t_(f))and overlap face/core number(n_(o)).The ballistic performance of the FSP system is comprehensively evaluated in terms of the ballistic limit velocity(BLV),deformation modes,energy dissipation mechanism,and specific penetration energy(SPE).The results show that the FSP system exhibits a significant configuration dependence,whose ballistic performance ranking is:asymmetric face sheet>gradient core>*** mass distribution of the top and bottom face sheets plays a critical role in the ballistic resistance of the FSP *** BLV and SPE increase with tf,while the raising tcor noleads to an increase in BLV but a decrease in ***,a face-core synchronous enhancement mechanism is discovered by the energy dissipation analysis,based on which the ballistic optimization procedure is also conducted and a design chart is *** study shed light on the anti-penetration mechanism of the FSP system and might provide a theoretical basis for its engineering application.

Fabricating PdCe/OMS-2 catalysts with boosted low-temperature activity for toluene deep degradation

Porous cryptomelane-type octahedral molecular sieve(OMS-2)with mixed Mn valence and abundant lattice oxygen species has attracted much attention in volatile organic compounds(VOC)catalytic ***,complete conversion of arene over OMS-2 catalysts at relatively low temperature is still a challenge due to its limited crystal structure and inferior ***,a series of PdCe/OMS-2 catalysts with different Pd/Ce molar ratios was fabricated by a facile impregnation method and the physicochemical properties of which were extensively characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HR-TEM),B runauer-Emmett-Teller(BET)method,X-ray fluorescence(XRF),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),temperature programmed reduction of H2(H2-TPR),Raman,In situ diffused reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectra(DRIFTS),and density functional theory(DFT)*** show that the total conversion of toluene can be achieved at 207℃ over PdCe2 with apparent activation energy as low as 62.6 kJ/*** strong synergistic effect between Pd and Ce remarkably boosts the catalytic activity of OMS-2,attributed to the abundant Mn^(3+)-O bands and active surface oxygen *** results reveal that oxygen vacancy can be formed over PdCe2 much easily than that of Pd/OMS-2 and Ce/OMS-2 with the oxygen vacancy formation energy of2.42,2.83 and 2.68 eV,*** increasing the Pd content cannot promote the catalytic activity although PdO is a critical active center in toluene *** vacancy attributed to the integrative effect of Pd,Ce and Mn species plays a promine nt role over prepared catalysts in toluene activation *** findings reported in this work showed new insights into the designing of highly efficient OMS-2catalysts for VOC deep oxidation by tuning oxygen vacancy concentration.

Nitrosamines are a class of carcinogens which have been detected widely in food,water,some pharmaceuticals as well as *** objectives of this paper include reviewing the basic information on tobacco consumption and nitrosamine contents,and assessing the health risks of tobacco nitrosamines exposure to Chinese *** searched the publications in English from“Web of Science”and those in Chinese from the“China National Knowledge Infrastructure”in 2022 and collected 151 literatures with valid *** content of main nitrosamines in tobacco,including 4-(methylnitrosoamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone(NNK),N-nitrosonornicotine(NNN),N-nitrosoanatabine(NAT),N-nitrosoanabasine(NAB),total tobacco-specific nitrosamines(TSNA),and N-nitrosodimethylamine(NDMA)were *** information of daily tobacco consumption of smokers in 30 provinces of China was also ***,the intakes of NNN,NNK,NAT,NAB,TSNAs,and NDMA via tobacco smoke were estimated as 1534ng/day,591 ng/day,685 ng/day,81 ng/day,2543 ng/day,and 484 ng/day by adult smokers in30 provinces,*** cancer risk(CR)values for NNN and NNK inhalation intake were further calculated as 1.44×10^(-5)and 1.95×10^(-4).The CR value for NDMA intake via tobacco smoke(inhalation:1.66×10^(-4))indicates that NDMA is similarly dangerous in tobacco smoke when compared with the *** China,the CR values caused by average nitrosamines intake via various exposures and their order can be estimated as the following:smoke(3.75×10^(-4))>food(1.74×10^(-4))>drinking water(1.38×10^(-5)).Smokers in China averagely suffer 200%of extra cancer risk caused by nitrosamines in tobacco when compared with non-smokers.

Toward a rapid and convenient nanoplastic quantification method in laboratory-scale study based on fluorescence intensity

The thorough investigation of nanoplastics(NPs)in aqueous environments requires efficient and expeditious quantitative analytical methods that are sensitive to environmentally relevant NP concentrations and convenient to *** analysis-based quantitative methods have been acknowledged as effective and rapid approaches for quantifying NP concentrations in laboratory-scale ***,we compared three commonly used optical response indicators,namely fluorescence intensity(FI),ultraviolet absorbance,and turbidity,to assess their performance in quantifying ***,orthogonal experiments were conducted to evaluate the influence of various water quality parameters on the preferred indicator-based quantification *** results revealed that FI exhibits the highest correlation coefficient(>0.99)with NP ***,the limit of quantification(LOQ)for various types of NPs is exceptionally low,ranging from 0.0089 to 0.0584 mg/L in ultrapure water,well below environmentally relevant *** variations in water quality parameters such as pH,salinity,suspended solids(SS),and humic acid,a robust relationship between detectable FI and NP concentration was ***,an increased matrix,especially SS in water samples,results in an enhanced LOQ for ***,the quantitative method remains applicable in real water bodies,especially in drinking water,with NP LOQ as low as 0.0157–0.0711 mg/*** exceeds the previously reported detectable concentration for 100 nm NPs at 40µg/mL using surface-enhanced Raman *** study confirms the potential of FI as a reliable indicator for the rapid quantification of NPs in aqueous environments,offering substantial advantages in terms of both convenience and cost-effectiveness.

Comparison of pulse rate variability from post-auricula and heart rate variability during different body states for healthy subjects

Heart rate variability (HRV) extracted from the electrocardiogram (ECG) is an essential indicator for assessing the autonomic nervous system in clinical. Some scholars have studied the feasibility of pulse rate variability (PRV) instead of HRV. However, there is little qualitative research in different body states. In this paper, the photoplethysmography (PPG) of postauricular and finger and the ECG of fifteen subjects were synchronously collected for comparative analysis. The eleven experiments were designed according to the daily living state, including the stationary state, limb movement state, and facial movement state. The substitutability of nine variables was investigated in the time, frequency, and nonlinearity domain by Passing Bablok regression and Bland Altman analysis. The results showed that the PPG of the finger was destroyed in the limb movement state. There were six variables of postauricular PRV, which showed a positive linear relationship and good agreement (p > 0.05, ratio (Formula presented.) 0.2) with HRV in all experiments. Our study suggests that the postauricular PPG could retain the necessary information of the pulse signal under the limb movement state and facial movement state. Therefore, postauricular PPG could be a better substitute for HRV, daily PPG detection, and mobile health than finger PPG. © 2023 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

The air separation unit (ASU) is important for producing high-purity oxygen, nitrogen, and argon, and dynamic load change operation helps meet the needs of downstream industries. The ASU has an extremely long delay, and the requirements for this operation are strict, and model predictive control (MPC) is usually used for this task. However, the burden of online MPC computation is a key issue in improving production and economic efficiency. In this paper, a framework based on Reinforcement Learning (RL) is proposed to solve the long-delayed task in ASU. The state and reward function are specially designed for this task. First, training increases the sampling time of the original model to create a low resolution environment, which makes training more efficient. As a sacrifice, the control precision is reduced in the original high resolution environment. Then, an algorithm called Interval Weighted state Update (IWSU) is proposed to restore the agent and keeps the action accuracy in the original environment. The dynamic load change task works as the case in this paper. The performance of RL is compared with that of MPC, and results show that RL is almost exactly the same as MPC in key flow indicators, and can well meet the remaining content and purity range requirements. IWSU shows good performance compared with directly applying the agent to the original high resolution environment. © 2024 IEEE.

For mitigating the libration angle fluctuation of the tethered satellite system,this paper discusses how to make the uniform velocity-deceleration separation scheme achieve the best ***,a judgment condition is established to determine the tether state by comparing the tether length and the relative distance of the sub-satellite and the parent *** on the tethered satellite system dynamics equation and Clohessy-Wiltshire equation,dynamic models are given for four cases of tether ***,the influence of the uniform velocity-deceleration separation scheme on the libration angle is analyzed by taking the libration angle at the separation ending time and the mean absolute value of the libration angle as index ***,the optimality problem of the uniform velocity-deceleration separation scheme is formulated as an optimization problem with constraints,and an approximate solution algorithm is given by combining the back propagation neural network and Newton-Raphson method of multiple initial ***,the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by a numerical simulation.
