This study echoes the rising demand for bio-based material in concrete composite structures in the race to accelerate carbon neutrality in construction. Noticing that most previous studies are focused on straight timber or engineered bamboo-to-concrete composite beams, this study developed straight or curved-and-tapered mechanically laminated bamboo-concrete (LBC) T-beams. Six layers of 26 mm thick laminated bamboo panels were glue laminated together to form the bamboo beams. The curved bamboo beams have three different rises of arch: 50 mm, 100 mm and 150 mm. All specimen beams were tested by four-point bending tests to evaluate their structural performances of the curved and straight LBC T-beams. To monitor the flange-to-web interface shear transfer, a novel interface shear slip calibration method that captures the longitudinal after-slip strain redistribution was developed and validated by strain gauge measurements. This study also highlights the interlayer shear bonding strength of laminated bamboo as the thresholding parameter that determines the composite beams' overall flexural strength, evidenced by detailed failure mode analysis. The proposed interface shear slip calibration method can be extended to the other types of shear connectors such as screws, nails, shear plates and notched connections. © 2023 The Author(s)

Semantics has been a major challenge when applying the process mining (PM) technique to real-time business processes. The several theoretical and practical efforts to bridge the semantic gap has spanned the advanced notion of the semantic-based process mining (SPM). Fundamentally, the SPM devotes its methods to the idea of making use of existing (semantic) technologies to support the analysis of PM techniques. In principle, the semantic-based process mining method is applied through the acquisition and representation of abstract knowledge about the domain processes in question. To this effect, this paper demonstrates how the semantic concepts and process modelling (reasoning) methods are used to improve the outcomes of PM techniques from the syntactic to a more conceptual level. To do this, the study proposes an SPM-based framework that shows to be intelligent with a high level of semantic reasoning aptitudes. Technically, this paper introduces a process mining approach that uses information (semantics) about different activities that can be found in any given process to make inferences and generate rules or patterns through the method for annotation, semantic reasoning, and conceptual assertions. In turn, the method is theoretically applied to enrich the informative values of the resultant models. Also, the study conducts and systematically reviews the current tools and methods that are used to support the outcomes of the process mining as well as evaluates the results of the different methods to determine the levels of impact and its implications for process mining. © 2020 - IOS Press and the authors. In this paper, discrete-time chaos generator is exploited for lightweight and energy-efficient true random number generator (TRNG) implementation. The chaos generator is realized with a two-stage tent map circuit with feedback. Each stage consists of three transistors. Its transient characteristics can be tuned over a range of bias voltage to realize a family of tent map functions. The chaotic output voltage amplitude of each stage is highly sensitive to the environmental noise. The difference signal between two such chaos generators at each stage is amplified to produce a random binary output. The output of the quantized sense amplifier is sampled at twice the bit rate of each stage of tent map circuit. The proposed design was simulated using a standard 55 nm 1.2 V CMOS process. The results show that it has a very low power consumption of 10.98 μW. It has an ultra-low energy consumption of only 5.49 pJ/bit at a throughput of 2 Mbps, which is 19x lower than the recently reported state-of-the-art and the most power efficient chaotic TRNGs. The random bit stream generated by the proposed TRNG has passed entropy, ACF and NIST randomness tests.

The use of machine learning models in predicting the important variable for colloidal-phosphorus (P) release from soils is a relatively new area of research. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the major determinants of colloidal-P release from different land use/types such as farmland, desert, and forest soils and rivers. The study utilizes the structural equation model (SEM), multiple linear regression (MLR), and three learning models (Random Forest (RF), Support Vector Regression (SVR), and Shapley Additive exPlanations eXtreme Gradient Boosting (SHAP XGBoost)) to predict the release of colloidal-P from different soils by using soil iron (Fe), aluminum (Al), calcium (Ca), pH, total organic carbon (TOC) and precipitation as independent variables. Results show that colloidal-cations (Fe, Al, Ca) and colloidal-TOC strongly influence colloidal-P release, with bioclimatic variables and pH having weaker effects. The SHAP Xgboost model outperforms the other models, with an R2 value of 0.94 and an RMSE of 0.09. The relative importance ranking of the variables for predicting the release of colloidal-P from soils to water is consistent across all three models, with colloidal TOC ranked as the most important factor followed by colloidal-Ca, colloidal-Al, and precipitation. Partial dependence plot analysis demonstrates that increasing colloidal TOC leads to increased soil colloidal-P release. According to our research, the SHAP XGBoost model provides significant information that can help determine the variables that considerably influence CP contents as compared to RF, SVM, and MLR. © 2024, The Authors. This paper presents a pioneering experimental proof-of-concept study to validate a novel concept of prestress technology that used only pure bio-based composite materials while achieved consistent prestressed stress distribution within the structure member, and provided in-situ flexibility, improved structural performance, and maximised the rate of utilisation of each material. Industrial level of facilities were used during this development. The prestress is achieved by pressurised/forced lamination of multiple components with different materials and geometrical properties. The prestressing process is activated during the pressure release stage during which the components are interacting with each other, creating different stress statuses that would favour the weaker and adverse the stronger components to maximise the strength exploitation of different materials. Using laminated bamboo and timber as an example pair, twenty-two glulam, non-prestressed and prestressed laminated bamboo-timber composite beams were manufactured, tested, and analysed to provide an in-depth understanding of the structural behaviours of these novel structural members. Failure modes, yielding, ultimate and serviceability limit loads, and corresponding deflections, as well as the histories of strain development at key positions of the specimens were examined. The experimental study confirmed the feasibility, effectiveness and industrial scalability of the proposed technology. The novel concept provides a new approach for developing the prestress technology for bio-based materials, and this experimental study laid the foundation for its future analytical development and numerical studies. © 2023, CC BY.

With the growing ubiquity of the Internet of Things, in-the-edge inference of deep neural network models has been a major driver for promoting the widespread use of intelligent applications. As model inference characteristics are crucial for optimizing and deploying deep neural networks on hardware platforms, many studies focus on analyzing the performance of neural networks such as latency, accuracy, throughput, and energy consumption. However, few existing works have ever discussed the runtime overheads hidden in neural network inference, despite the overheads are non-negligible for edge applications. The lack of in-depth analysis of the overheads hinders the understanding of how hardware designs and model structures impact on-device inference performance. In this paper, we characterize the runtime overheads of deep learning inference on representative edge devices by leveraging state-of-the-art neural network models, performing a systematical analysis from the perspective of end-to-end performance, hardware platforms, memory bandwidth, and neural network model structures. Based on experimental results, the crucial insights are offered to facilitate the design and configure of resource-efficient networks and pick appropriate models on the specific platform, which provides a comprehensive view of runtime overheads of in-the- edge neural network inference for architects and developers.

This one-day hybrid workshop builds on previous feminist CSCW workshops to explore feminist theoretical and methodological approaches that have provided us with useful tools to see things differently and make space for change. Since its inception over a decade ago, feminist HCI has progressed from the margins to mainstream HCI, with numerous references in the literature. Feminist HCI has also evolved to incorporate other critical HCI practices such as Queer HCI, participatory design, and speculative design. While feminist approaches have grown in popularity and become mainstream, it is getting more difficult to distinguish the feminist emancipatory core from other attempts of developing and improving society in various ways. In this workshop, we therefore want to revisit our feminist roots, where theory is a liberatory and creative practice, motivated by affect, curiosity, and wonder. From this standpoint, we consider which of our feminist tools can make a significant difference today, in a highly datafied world. The goal of this workshop is to;1) create an inventory of feminist theories and concepts that have had an impact on our work as designers, educators, researchers, and activists;2) develop a feminist toolbox for the CSCW community to strengthen our feminist literacy. © 2023 Owner/Author.

Mg₁_-xCo_xO nanoparticles (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.1) are synthesized by utilizing co-precipitation method. Structural, chemical, morphological and magnetic properties of the nanoparticles are examined by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Magnetic Properties Measurement System (MPMS: quantum design), respectively. Cubic structure of the nanoparticles is revealed by the XRD investigations. The crystallite size (23–12 nm) and microstrain (3.26 × 10⁻³–8.28 × 10⁻³) are calculated using Scherrer relation and Williamson Hall (W-H) method. It is found that the results of both methods are in good agreement. It is observed that the bandgap of Mg₁_-xCo_xO (x = 0.1) decreased from 5.66 to 4.93 eV (13 %) due to agglomeration of irregular shaped nanoparticles. Magnetization loops of Co doped MgO nanoparticles are measured at 5 and 100 K temperatures. Interestingly, undoped MgO nanoparticles show diamagnetic behavior that switched to paramagnetic with Co doping. Our findings may develop fundamental understanding of the relationship between structural and magnetic properties of nanoparticles and pave the way for the utilization of Co-doped MgO nanoparticles in magnetic nano-devices. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

Tensor-specialized hardware for supporting low-precision arithmetic has become an inevitable trend due to the ever-increasing demand on computational capability and energy efficiency in intelligent applications. The main challenge faced when accelerating a tensor program on tensor-specialized hardware is how to achieve the best performance possible in reduced precision by fully utilizing its computational resources while keeping the precision loss in a controlled manner. In this paper, we address this challenge by proposing QUANTENSOR, a new approach for accelerating general-purpose tensor programs by replacing its tensor computations with low-precision quantized tensor computations on NVIDIA Tensor Cores. The key novelty is a new residual-based precision refinement technique for controlling the quantization errors, allowing tradeoffs between performance and precision to be made. Evaluation with GEMM, deep neural networks, and linear algebra applications shows that QUANTENSOR can achieve remarkable performance improvements while reducing the precision loss incurred significantly at acceptable overheads.

There are numerous ranking systems that provide web rankings for colleges and universities around the world. The aim of this paper is to present the findings of SEO audit and analysis of 34 HEI websites in Oman in terms of web presence and impact. The study used the SEO audit metrics-domain authority score, linking root domain, ranking keywords, and spam score which are provided by Moz. The findings revealed that only one (1) HEI has achieved a good quality for domain authority while all the others have obtained a low quality only for domain authority. The same HEI has scored high on the linking root domains and ranking keywords. However, 24 % of the HEIs have attained a zero spam score while 76% of the HEIs have attained a low spam score. The study recommends that HEIs should exert more efforts in improving their SEO to increase visibility and impact on the web.
