VoteDroid: a new ensemble voting classifier for malware detection based on fine-tuned deep learning models

In this work, VoteDroid a novel fine-tuned deep learning models-based ensemble voting classifier has been proposed for detecting malicious behavior in Android applications. To this end, we proposed adopting the random search optimization algorithm for deciding the structure of the models used as voter classifiers in the ensemble classifier. We specified the potential components that can be used in each model and left the random search algorithm taking a decision about the structure of the model including the number of each component that should be used and its location in the structure. This optimization method has been used to build three different deep learning models namely CNN-ANN, pure CNN, and pure ANN. After selecting the best structure for each DL model, the selected three models have been trained and tested using the constructed image dataset. Afterward, we suggested hybridizing the fine-tuned three deep-learning models to form one ensemble voting classifier with two different working modes namely MMR (Malware Minority Rule) and LMR (Label Majority Rule). To our knowledge, this is the first time that an ensemble classifier has been fine-tuned and hybridized in this way for malware detection. The results showed that the proposed models were promising, where the classification accuracy exceeded 97% in all experiments. © The Author(s) 2024.

Enhanced pyramidal residual networks for single image super-resolution

Several super-resolution (SR) techniques are introduced in the literature, including traditional and machine learning-based algorithms. Especially, deep learning-based SR approaches emerge with demands for better quality images providing deeper subpixel enhancement. Dealing with the image enhancement task in the satellite images domain, a new SR method for single image SR, namely Enhanced Deep Pyramidal Residual Networks, is introduced in this study. The proposed method overcomes the potential instability problem of Enhanced Deep Residual Networks for Single Image Super-Resolution (EDSR) approach by gradually increasing the feature maps depending upon Pyramidal Residual Networks architecture. The EDSR itself is a good algorithm in the SR domain. However, it has a strict structure for increasing the block size. To overcome this problem with the aim of increasing the algorithm’s performance, the pyramidal residual networks gradually increasing hypothesis is utilized in the proposed approach, which is the main contribution and novelty of this study. Besides, by using the pyramidal residual networks gradually increasing hypothesis in the proposed approach, the parameter size of the models is also reduced, which affects the computational time. Two different models are proposed by considering addition and multiplication manners, and the proposed models are evaluated using well-known remote sensing datasets NWPU-RESISC45 and UC Merced. The results obtained by the proposed model are compared with the results of traditional image enhancement algorithms together with the EDSR itself, EDSR with deeper structure, Super-Resolution Generative Adversarial Networks approach, and Residual Local Feature Networks approach in terms of peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) and structural similarity index measure (SSIM) metrics and showed that the proposed models present better quality images. DeepGAN: Utilizing generative adversarial networks for improved deep learning

In the realm of deep learning, Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) have emerged as a topic of significant interest for their potential to enhance model performance and enable effective data augmentation. This paper addresses the existing challenges in synthesizing high-quality data and harnessing the capabilities of GANs for improved deep learning outcomes. Unlike traditional approaches that heavily rely on manually engineered data augmentation techniques, our work introduces a novel framework that leverages DeepGANs to autonomously generate diverse and high-fidelity data. Our experiments encompass a diverse spectrum of datasets, including images, text, and time series data. In the context of image classification tasks, we conduct experiments on the widely recognized CIFAR-10 dataset, which consists of 50,000 image samples. Our results demonstrate the remarkable efficacy of DeepGANs in enhancing model performance across various data domains. Notably, in image classification using the CIFAR-10 dataset, our innovative approach achieves an impressive accuracy of 97.2%. This represents a substantial advancement beyond conventional CNN models, underscoring the profound impact of DeepGANs in the realm of deep learning. In summary, this research sheds light on DeepGANs as a fundamental component in the pursuit of enhanced deep learning performance. Our framework not only overcomes existing limitations but also heralds a new era of data augmentation, with generative adversarial networks leading the way. The attainment of an accuracy rate of 97.2% on CIFAR-10 serves as a compelling testament to the transformative potential of DeepGANs, solidifying their pivotal role in the future of deep learning. This promises the development of more robust, adaptive, and accurate models across a myriad of applications, marking a significant contribution to the field. © 2024 – IOS Press. All rights reserved.

VGIS (Virtual Geographic Information System) Platform is a unified oilfield operations management platform based on MaaS (Management as a Service) that integrates advanced technologies such as AIoT (Artificial Intelligence & Internet of Things), GIS (Geographic Information System), Digital Twin, and AR (Augmented Reality)/ VR (Virtual Reality). The VGIS platform connects, collects, integrates, analyses, and acts on disparate data sources to provide the oilfield with a centralized view to help make informed decisions fast, bring operational visibility across all assets to improve safety and operational efficiency, reduce costs and improve margins, provide comprehensive analytics and decision support, increase business agility, and reduce management complexity. This is a case study of the application of the VGIS platform Majnoon oilfield, Basrah, Iraq. VGIS digital transformation, production process, and KPIs (Key performance indicators) are highly managed taking oilfield management to a higher level globally, in this study, the objective is to address and resolve the issue of high costs associated with using cloud services by utilising a local Data Center (a large group of networked computer servers typically used by organizations for the remote storage, processing, or distribution of large amounts of data). This approach involves directly uploading 3D maps to ensure faster service on the intranet, eliminating the need to pay for cloud *** aims providing a platform for researching and implementing monitoring and controlling processes in a more convenient and remote manner. Intrusion detection systems (IDSs) are deployed to detect anomalies in real time. They classify a network’s incoming traffic as benign or anomalous (attack). An efficient and robust IDS in software-defined networks is an inevitable component of network security. The main challenges of such an IDS are achieving zero or extremely low false positive rates and high detection rates. Internet of Things (IoT) networks run by using devices with minimal resources. This situation makes deploying traditional IDSs in IoT networks unfeasible. Machine learning (ML) techniques are extensively applied to build robust IDSs. Many researchers have utilized different ML methods and techniques to address the above challenges. The development of an efficient IDS starts with a good feature selection process to avoid overfitting the ML model. This work proposes a multiple feature selection process followed by classification. In this study, the Software-defined networking (SDN) dataset is used to train and test the proposed model. This model applies multiple feature selection techniques to select high-scoring features from a set of features. Highly relevant features for anomaly detection are selected on the basis of their scores to generate the candidate dataset. Multiple classification algorithms are applied to the candidate dataset to build models. The proposed model exhibits considerable improvement in the detection of attacks with high accuracy and low false positive rates, even with a few features selected.
