As technology's influence grows, it is critical that engineers take a greater role in public and private leadership. Most engineering students, however, are not exposed to formal studies in leadership development. For the past 12 years, the Robe Leadership Institute (RLI) has encouraged effective leadership for the college's students, faculty, and staff through a wide variety of activities, classes, and guest speakers. The focus on leadership concepts, styles, self-realization, and personal interactions with established leaders develops each student's own leadership style in preparation for future opportunities. This paper will summarize Institute progress in leadership education, focusing on the yearly course offered to the Russ college's most promising student leaders. This course includes a literature survey, studies of emotional intelligence and leadership styles, team building, interactions with invited leaders, and journaling on each activity. The course structure, pedagogy, assignments, speaker interaction, alumni surveys, and future goals will be presented.

The activities of the project from the unique perspective of community college faculty and staff that are directly responsible for the outcomes are discussed. The information about the high school clubs and the impact these activities have on the students awareness of engineeringtechnology disciplines are also discussed. High school students seem to enjoy competitions and really enjoy beating a rival school. Several different types of competitions are held with the objective that high school students will be learning and practicing engineering principles while preparing for the competitions.

The architectural engineeringtechnology at the Bluefield State college (BSC), Center for Applied Research and technology (CART), Applied Research Assistant (ARA)was discussed. The primary goal of ARA was to provide valueable real project work experiences to students, while allowing professionals to obtain specific limited services at substatially reduced costs. The skills and abilities identified in the program outcomes are measures of the quality of the program and can have a significant impact on the validity of the degree. The research will analyze the levels of student capability to provide independent and supervized services.
This poster presents the work on using hands-on mechatronics design activities to attract col lege, as wel l as high school students, to study engineeringtechnology. This work is supported by a grant from National Sc...

The purpose of this project was to develop an assessment process to work with the modified Continuous Improvement (CI) plan. The CI plan that was initially developed by the engineeringtechnology Program in the Community college as part of the ABET self-study, and was found to be insufficient in its ability to close the loop from program and curriculum changes to the effect on program outcomes. One possible cause of this deficiency was that the plan did not follow any particular quality model. This project examined various quality models with the intent to revise the CI plan. The results of this project will then be incorporated into the program's plans and procedures.

Aqueous sodium-ion batteries(ASIBs) have garnered significant attention as promising candidates for large-scale energy storage applications. This interest is primarily due to their abundant resource availability, environmental friendliness, cost-effectiveness, and high safety. However, their electrochemical performance is limited by the thermodynamic properties of water molecules, resulting in inadequate cycling stability and insufficient specific energy density. To address these challenges, this study developed a hydrogen-bond enhanced urea-glycerol eutectic electrolyte(UGE) to expand the electrochemical stability window(ESW) of the electrolyte and suppress corresponding side reactions. The eutectic component disrupts the original hydrogen bonding network in water, creating a new, enhanced network that reduces the activity of free water and forms a uniform, dense passivation layer on the anode. As a result, the optimized composition of UGE exhibits a broad ESW of up to 3 V(-1.44 to 1.6 V vs. Ag/AgCl). The Prussian blue(PB)/UGE/NaTi2(PO4)3@C full cell exhibits an exceptionally long lifespan of 10,000 cycles at 10 C. This study introduces a low-cost, ultra-long-life ASIB system, utilizing a green and economical eutectic electrolyte, which expands the use of eutectic electrolytes in aqueous batteries and opens a new research horizon for constructing efficient electrochemical energy storage and conversion.
