This paper presents an automated method for seizure detection in EEGs using an increment entropy (IncrEn) and support vector machines (SVMs). The IncrEn is a measure of the complexity of time series, which characterizes both the permutation of values and the temporal order of values. The IncrEn is used to extract features of epileptic EEGs and normal EEGs. The SVMs are employed to classify seizure EEGs from non-seizure ones. The maximum accuracy achieves 97.32%. The maximum sensitivity and the maximum specificity are 95.34% and 99.30%,respectively. The results indicate our approach using the IncrEn and SVMs is an effective tool to detect EEG seizure.

Research on radiation noise field reconstruction of underwater vehicle shell structure

When studying the radiation noise of underwater vehicle, it is more realistic to simulate the underwater vehicle by using the volume source shell structure model. However, in the process of using COMSOL to simulate the radiation noise of the underwater vehicle shell structure, the far field calculation cannot be realized with the software because the calculation amount is too large. This paper proposes to measure the noise of underwater vehicle shell structure model in the near field. According to the theory of acoustic holographic and the idea of equivalent source, it is achievable to obtain the equivalent sound source of underwater vehicle shell structure noise source, and thus realizing sound field reconstruction. Studies have shown that underwater vehicle radiation noise field reconstruction and far-field calculation can be achieved by transformation within the tolerance of error. At the same time, this paper also compares the reconstructed sound fields obtained by different methods.

Due to the application nature of Internet of Things, various different kinds of devices will be connected to the network. To increase the access opportunity, a spreading based signal transmission technique is proposed to be used in the signal transmission of iot. To alleviate the effects of rich scattering transmission environment and interferences from other devices, MMSE based interference cancellation combined with the receive beamforming is proposed in this paper. Through simulation, we observe that the proposed algorithm is outperforms the conventional spreading transmission schemes and is suitable for the transmission environment of iot. © ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications engineering 2017.

The light diffuseness (Xia, Pont et al. 2016, Xia, Pont et al. 2016) can strongly influence the appearance of scenes and objects inside it. There are numerous studies investigating how to measure the light diffuseness or modelling index. However, there are few studies about how light diffuseness is interpreted by human observers. We use an appearancematching experiment to investigate observers' visual interpretation of light diffuseness from object appearance and its potential interactions with viewing angles, light probe type, etcetera. The results indicate that, generally, the observers are able to distinguish different diffuseness levels for both the smooth and rough white spherical probes. The “diffuseness-direction ambiguity” (Pont and Koenderink 2007) is obvious especially for the smooth probe and it can be largely corrected for by the “effective vector to scalar ratio” (Cuttle 1971). Moreover, the results showed that the use of a probe with mesorelief can at least partly resolve the “diffuseness-direction ambiguity”.

With the advantages of light weight, thin thickness and environment friendly, the micro-perforated panel (MPP) has been widely studied for noise reduction. Maa's model pointed out that the MPP could obtain higher sound absorption over broader frequency band when the perforations were reduced to less than 100 μm. However, it is challenging to manufacture MPPs with the aperture of approximate 100 μm, thus its potential application has been restricted. In this study, we used a computer numerical control (CNC) milling machine to process MPP. Four different kinds of raw materials including paperboard, polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and polycarbonate (PC) were taken to prepare micro-perforated panels (MPPs). It has been indicated that MPPs with good sound absorption properties were successfully prepared by this facile method.

Using NSGA-III for optimising biomedical ontology alignment

To support semantic inter‐operability between the biomedical information systems, it is necessary to determine the correspondences between the heterogeneous biomedical concepts, which is commonly known as biomedical ontology matching. Biomedical concepts are usually complex and ambiguous, which makes matching biomedical ontologies a challenge. Since none of the similarity measures can distinguish the heterogeneous biomedical concepts in any context independently, usually several similarity measures are applied together to determine the biomedical concepts mappings. However, the ignorance of the effects brought about by different biomedical concept mapping's preference on the similarity measures significantly reduces the alignment's quality. In this study, a non‐dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA)‐III‐based biomedical ontology matching technique is proposed to effectively match the biomedical ontologies, which first utilises an ontology partitioning technique to transform the large‐scale biomedical ontology matching problem into several ontology segment‐matching problems, and then uses NSGA‐III to determine the optimal alignment without tuning the aggregating weights. The experiment is conducted on the anatomy track and large biomedic ontologies track which are provided by the Ontology Alignment Evaluation Initiative (OAEI), and the comparisons with OAEI's participants show the effectiveness of the authors' approach.

Nearly all solutions are Pareto non-dominated for multi-objective problems with more than three conflicting objectives. Thus, the comparison of solutions is a critical issue in many objective optimization. A simple but effective normalized ranking metric based method is proposed to compare solutions in this paper. All solutions are ranked by the sum of normalized fitness value of each objective. A solution with a small value is considered to be a good solution for minimum optimization problems. To enhance the population diversity of all solutions, the solutions with small values and the solutions with better fitness values on each objective are kept in an archive and updated per iteration. This ranking metric is further utilized in a particle swarm optimization algorithm to solve multiobjective and many objective problems. Four benchmark problems are utilized to test the proposed algorithm. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is a promising approach for solving the multiobjective and many objective optimization problems. © Springer International Publishing AG 2017.

With the booming of e-commerce,salerooms of online shops have affected the offline shops marketing *** requires a smart system to help dealers to predict the products sale trend,so as to save cost for their entity *** this paper,we propose an interactions data detection system based on RFID *** customers' behavior information reflected by Received Signal Strength Indicator(RSSI) and time duration when they compare and select products is recorded in the Cloud Platform Server(CPS) for analyzing product sale ***,we have defined the IDP value based on detected interactions *** practical experiments,the IDP is shown to have same variations associated with practical ***,for a product with a high IDP value,dealers can advertise or recommend relevant information of such a product via displays at the shops to increase its sales volume.

This paper presents an interactive training platform of motor learning using movement imitation and synchronous speech instruction. This platform enables a child with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and a robot to imitate each other. A robot can ask a child to copy its action and instruct human how to adjust his/her action to match its action. A robot can also ask a child to coach it, which is able to elicit children's response to increase their communication. The platform is built up by a NAO humanoid robot that demonstrates actions, and a depth camera that captures child's actions. We scaled the skeleton tracking data in order to evaluate the consistence of actions between human and robot. The pilot tests on both children with and without ASD have shown that our framework is flexible and convenient for assisting intervention, and that the synchronous speech instructions to some extend facilitate children with ASD to perform their actions for motor learning.

In conventional design works relevant to antennae transmission, the space-time block coding (STBC) and beamforming (BF) gains could not be achieved at the same time usually. This is mainly due to the STBC performs well under a low correlated channel environment; BF technologies, on the other hand, works efficiently when the multi-input multi-output (MIMO) channels are highly correlated. In order to boost the system performance, in this paper, we propose a novel MIMO architecture to exploit STBC, e.g. Alamouti code, and BF technologies simultaneously. The antenna array systems associated with polarization have potential to obtain gains for both techniques because the cross-branch links in the system usually are not correlated; and the cross-array links could be highly correlated by setting a small array element distance, i.e. equal to or less than a half-wavelength. Finally, the efficiency of our proposed architecture is validated via computer simulations.
