Aim to solve the problem of structure design about echo state network, a new type of ESN with hierarchical modular structure(HMESN) is proposed in this paper. The hierarchical connections are introduced into reservoir of HMESN, and each level of neurons are modular structure. The structure of HMESN is closer to the hierarchical modular topology characteristics of brain networks, which effectively enhances the dynamics of internal neurons. Finally, the HMESN is used for the Mackey-Glass time series prediction and the sewage treatment modeling. Experimental results and the performance comparison demonstrate that the prediction accuracy of the proposed HMESN is better than those of ESN.

In this work, we report the set-up and results of the Liver Tumor Segmentation Benchmark (LiTS), which was organized in conjunction with the IEEE International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging (ISBI) 2017 and the International Conferences on Medical Image Computing and Computer-Assisted Intervention (MICCAI) 2017 and 2018. The image dataset is diverse and contains primary and secondary tumors with varied sizes and appearances with various lesion-to-background levels (hyper-/hypo-dense), created in collaboration with seven hospitals and research institutions. Seventy-five submitted liver and liver tumor segmentation algorithms were trained on a set of 131 computed tomography (CT) volumes and were tested on 70 unseen test images acquired from different patients. We found that not a single algorithm performed best for both liver and liver tumors in the three events. The best liver segmentation algorithm achieved a Dice score of 0.963, whereas, for tumor segmentation, the best algorithms achieved Dices scores of 0.674 (ISBI 2017), 0.702 (MICCAI 2017), and 0.739 (MICCAI 2018). Retrospectively, we performed additional analysis on liver tumor detection and revealed that not all top-performing segmentation algorithms worked well for tumor detection. The best liver tumor detection method achieved a lesion-wise recall of 0.458 (ISBI 2017), 0.515 (MICCAI 2017), and 0.554 (MICCAI 2018), indicating the need for further research. Chronic care manages long-term, progressive conditions, while acute care addresses short-term conditions. Chronic conditions increasingly strain health systems, which are often unprepared for these demands. This study examines the burden of conditions requiring acute versus chronic care, including sequelae. Conditions and sequelae from the Global Burden of Diseases Study 2019 were classified into acute or chronic care categories. Data were analysed by age, sex, and socio-demographic index, presenting total numbers and contributions to burden metrics such as Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs), Years Lived with Disability (YLD), and Years of Life Lost (YLL). Approximately 68% of DALYs were attributed to chronic care, while 27% were due to acute care. Chronic care needs increased with age, representing 86% of YLDs and 71% of YLLs, and accounting for 93% of YLDs from sequelae. These findings highlight that chronic care needs far exceed acute care needs globally, necessitating health systems to adapt accordingly. © 2025. The Author(s).

To reduce the impacts of harmonics and noises on frequency measurements, a novel method of frequency tracking is presented based on improved EKF algorithm and wavelet transform. Firstly, the power signal was preprocessed to extract the fundamental wave by wavelet filtering. Then, an improved Extended Kalman Filter was introduced to achieve fast and accurate frequency tracking. By adding a robust factor and modifying the covariance matrix in real time, it enhanced the stability for detecting distorted signals. The proposed tracking algorithm can effectively solve the problems of traditional Extended Kalman Filter such as lack of adaptability, instability and divergence. And it improved the tracking speed and accuracy. Finally, Detailed simulations on several typical models of power signals have been carried out and the Simulation results shown that the new algorithm increases the speed, convergence and accuracy. It effectively suppresses the impacts of harmonics and noises on the frequency tracking results. © 2015 SERSC.

A parallel Gaussian elimination algorithm for Jacobian matrix calculation is designed to accelerate the MT Occam algorithm. The gaussd progress calculates the column matrix which is build by receivers' data. The parallel gaussd process is based on the original Gaussian parallel algorithm. The back substitution equation has been transformed to increase the elements in parallel area. By storing the primary row of coefficient matrix and RJ matrix to shared memory, memory accessing time is reduced. The parallel gaussd is implemented in CUDA FORTRAN. Using the gauss and gaussd parallel algorithms together can reduce the data transform between GPU and host. The highest speedup of parallel gaussd is 22. It greatly improves the efficiency of Jacobian matrix calculation in MT Occam algorithm.

Background: The sustainable development goals (SDGs) aim to end HIV/AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. Understanding the current state of the HIV epidemic and its change over time is essential to this effort. This study assesses the current sex-specific HIV burden in 204 countries and territories and measures progress in the control of the epidemic. Methods: To estimate age-specific and sex-specific trends in 48 of 204 countries, we extended the Estimation and Projection Package Age-Sex Model to also implement the spectrum paediatric model. We used this model in cases where age and sex specific HIV-seroprevalence surveys and antenatal care-clinic sentinel surveillance data were available. For the remaining 156 of 204 locations, we developed a cohort-incidence bias adjustment to derive incidence as a function of cause-of-death data from vital registration systems. The incidence was input to a custom Spectrum model. To assess progress, we measured the percentage change in incident cases and deaths between 2010 and 2019 (threshold >75% decline), the ratio of incident cases to number of people living with HIV (incidence-to-prevalence ratio threshold <0·03), and the ratio of incident cases to deaths (incidence-to-mortality ratio threshold <1·0). Findings: In 2019, there were 36·8 million (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 35·1–38·9) people living with HIV worldwide. There were 0·84 males (95% UI 0·78–0·91) per female living with HIV in 2019, 0·99 male infections (0·91–1·10) for every female infection, and 1·02 male deaths (0·95–1·10) per female death. Global progress in incident cases and deaths between 2010 and 2019 was driven by sub-Saharan Africa (with a 28·52% decrease in incident cases, 95% UI 19·58–35·43, and a 39·66% decrease in deaths, 36·49–42·36). Elsewhere, the incidence remained stable or increased, whereas deaths generally decreased. The estimation of DOA is an important problem in sensor array signal processing and its industrial applications. Among all the solving techniques for DOA, the Stochastic Maximum Likelihood (SML) algorithm is well-known for its high accuracy of DOA estimation. However, its computational complexity is very high because a multi-dimensional nonlinear optimization problem is involved. The Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is considered as a rather efficient way for multi-dimensional non-linear optimization problems in DOA estimation. However Conventional PSO algorithm usually needs a large number of particles and the iteration number is also a litter high when all the particles converge. As a result, the computational complexity is still a litter high. This paper proposes a low complexity Joint-PSO (JPSO) algorithm for SML estimation. It uses the solution of Estimation of Signal Parameters via Rotational Invariance Techniques (ESPRIT) and stochastic Cramer-Rao bound (CRB) to determine a novel initialization space. In this case, smaller number of particles and less iteration number are required. Therefore, the computational complexity can be greatly reduced. Simulation results are also shown to demonstrate the validity of proposed JPSO algorithm.

Selective image segmentation is a very important and practical procedure in image processing. However, the existing selective segmentation model can not segment images with intensity inhomogeneity and fuzzy edge images accurately. In this paper a novel model which has better performance for images with intensity inhomogeneity and fuzzy edge images is proposed. The establishment of the model is based on the techniques of curve evolution, local statistic information and level set method. The stopping term in the new model with geometrical constraint is based on the LBF (Local Binary Fitting) active contour model. This paper applies the AOS (Additive Operator Splitting) method to speed up the segmentation. Experimental results on synthetic and real images clearly show that the novel model can segment the target more accurately, especially with respect to images with intensity inhomogeneity, weak edges and noise.

A new method of active power measurement based on power load wiener-G functionals models

For the problem of electrical energy measurement could not be united under the condition of non-stationary distortion signals, in the paper, the functionals series was used to modeling the signals. Firstly, the Wiener kernel of nonlinear load was acquired;the output signal of nonlinear load was expressed using functionals series under the condition of sinusoidal excitation;and then, we used the wavelet transform to processed and acquired component of fundamental and distortion;and though the acquisition component of voltage and current, we analyzed the power flow of nonlinear load, and according the result of power flow, we proposed a new method of active power measurement. The simulation result shows that the result of theoretical analysis is the same as the new method, and the new method of electric energy measurement based on the functional series can achieve the reasonable electrical energy measurement. © 2015 SERSC.
