A Decision Tree Network with Semi-Supervised Entropy Learning Strategy for Spectroscopy Aided Detection of Blood Hemoglobin

Non-invasive techniques for rapid blood testing are gaining traction in global healthcare as they optimize medical screening, diagnosis and clinical decisions. Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy is one of the most common technologies that can be used for non-destructive aided medical detection. Typically, after acquiring the Fourier transform infrared spectrum, spectral data preprocessing and feature extraction and quantitative analysis of several indicators of blood samples can be accomplished, in combination with chemometric method studies. At present, blood hemoglobin (HGB) concentration is one of the most valuable information for the clinical diagnosis of patient’s health status. FT-IR spectroscopy is employed as a green technique aided medical test of blood HGB. Then the acquired HGB concentration data is switched to the spectral feature data by the studies of advanced chemometric method, in help for hiding the sensitive medical information to protect the privacy of patients. The decision tree network architecture is proposed for feature extraction of FT-IR data in order to find the small set of wavenumbers that are able to quantify HGB. A semi-supervised learning strategy is designed for tuning the number of network neuron nodes, in the way of searching for the maximum entropy increment. Each neuron is optimized by the growing of a semi-supervised decision tree, to accurately identify the informative FT-IR wavenumbers. The features extracted by the semi-supervised learning decision tree network guarantees the FT-IR aided detection model has high efficiency and high prediction accuracy. A model of quantifying the HGB concentration shows that the proposed decision tree network with semi-supervised entropy learning strategy outperforms the usual methods of full spectrum partial least square model and the fully connected neural network model in prediction accuracy. Few-shot learning based methods can address the reliance on large-scale labeled samples in current breast tumor segmentation. However, previous methods typically rely on a few support samples to extract abstract, coarse-grained semantic prototypes, without considering the interaction between support and query data. In this study, we aim to provide each query image with relevant and information-rich support information. By integrating the difficult point selection module and the multi-scale cyclical prototype refinement module, we progressively refine coarse-grained support prototypes into more informative, fine-grained class prototypes, thereby better matching the highly variable breast ultrasound query data. Experiments on two datasets demonstrate that our proposed multi-scale cyclical similarity prototype refinement network (CSPRNet) achieves remarkable improvements compared to previous state-of-the-art methods. Specifically, using ResNet50 as the backbone, we achieve 57.93%/57.92% and 57.58%/59.24% mIoU for 1-shot and 5-shot segmentation, respectively, on public and private datasets, outperforming the suboptimal method by 8.18%/2.55% and 2.77%/4.48%.

Gland instance segmentation is an essential but challenging task in the diagnosis of adenocarcinoma. The existing models usually achieve gland instance segmentation through multi-task learning and boundary loss constraint. However, how to deal with the problems of gland adhesion and inaccurate boundary in segmenting the complex samples remains a challenge. In this work, we propose a novel geometric feature named displacement field (DF), which can represent the geometric information such as shape, size, and orientation of the glands. Based on the explicit constraint of DF, a displacement-field assisted graph energy transmitter (DFGET) framework is proposed for solving the above problems. Using such graph framework, the gland semantic segmentation map and the displacement field of the graph nodes are estimated with two graph network branches. With the constraint of DF, a graph cluster module is presented to improve the intra-class feature consistency and inter-class feature discrepancy, as well as to separate the adherent glands. Extensive comparison and ablation experiments on the GlaS dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of the displacement field and the superiority of DFGET. Compared to the best comparative model, DFGET increases the object-Dice and object-F1 score by 2.27% and 3.11% respectively, while decreases the object-HD by 15.58, achieving state-of-the-art performance, which indicates that DFGET can serve as an auxiliary tool for the diagnosis of adenocarcinoma.

Survival modeling in healthcare relies on explainable statistical models;yet, their underlying assumptions are often simplistic and, thus, unrealistic. Machine learning models can estimate more complex relationships and lead to more accurate predictions, but are non-interpretable. This study shows it is possible to estimate hospitalization for congestive heart failure by a 30 seconds single-lead electrocardiogram signal. Using a machine learning approach not only results in greater predictive power but also provides clinically meaningful interpretations. We train an eXtreme Gradient Boosting accelerated failure time model and exploit SHapley Additive exPlanations values to explain the effect of each feature on predictions. Our model achieved a concordance index of 0.828 and an area under the curve of 0.853 at one year and 0.858 at two years on a held-out test set of 6,573 patients. These results show that a rapid test based on an electrocardiogram could be crucial in targeting and treating high-risk individuals. © 2022 IEEE.

On Multiplicative Generators of n-Dimensional Overlap Functions

In this paper, inspired by the multiplicative generators of overlap functions, we mainly propose the concepts of multiplicative generator pairs of n-dimensional overlap functions, in order to extend the dimensionality of overlap functions from 2 to n. We present the condition under which the pair (g, h) can multiplicatively generate an n-dimensional overlap function O_g,h. we focus on the homogeneity and idempotency property on multiplicatively generated n-dimensional overlap functions.

Robust Indoor Person Re-Identification with Multimodal Training

Existing person re-identification (ReID) methods mainly rely on images and videos to match persons across cameras, yet visual data captured by cameras are vulnerable to environmental interferences (e.g. illumination and occlusion) or personal appearance changes, leading to performance degradation under such scenes. Meanwhile, the popularization of Wi-Fi networks has allowed probe requests to be captured for mobile sensing applications such as crowd counting and trajectory estimation. However, the MAC address randomization technique adopted by modern devices breaks the association of probe requests and adversely affects the functionality of these applications. In this paper, we propose MaRPA, the first multimodal training approach that incorporates both videos and Wi-Fi probe requests to simultaneously promote tasks of probe requests association and person ReID. MaRPA first distinguishes among pairwise probe request frames through a contrastive learning model. It then matches video and probe request sequences by exploring their similarities from the position and the vision aspects. Matched videos and probe requests provide complementary information and generate more robust features for both tasks. To evaluate MaRPA, we contribute a new dataset containing synchronous videos and probe requests data for probe requests association and person ReID. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach. For probe requests association, it achieves > 85% discrimination accuracy and > 0.90 V-measure score;for person ReID, it achieves 75.8% mAP and 90.6% Rank-1, improving state-of-the-art video-based ReID methods by over 40% © 2014 IEEE.

As the number of patent applications increases yearly, the negation relation between patents has become intertwined, which makes it difficult for constructing negation relation in patent examination manually. Therefore, how to automatically construct negation relation between patents has become the hot research. Constructing negation relation is the process of comparing technical features between patents, which depends on the technical features in the patent claims and the technical function-effect. Although there are many researches on patent one-to-one negation, few researches on patent multi-to-one negation. The research on negation relation of multi-to-one patents, has the following challenges: (1) the definition of patent features is ambiguous in comparison of negation relation;(2) the role of patent function-effect is often ignored in judgement of negation relation. To solve the above issues, we propose a technical function-effect based patent multi-to-one negation game model. In the model, we decompose patent technical features into technical utility and technical function-effect. Patent technical utility is mainly realized by using the valence theory in linguistics. After obtaining technical utility, we choose to have the same technical effect, express the technical features of different technical functions, and obtain the patent technical function-effect. Finally, we combine the technical utility and function-effect to construct a technical utility/function-effect game tree to judge the patent negation relation. According to the two-tailed test in the A/B-test, our model outperforms the baseline model in the evaluation measurement. This model can subsequently be used to calculate the portfolio value and the strategic value of the patents. © 2022 IEEE.

Differential Evolution algorithm Based on Ensemble of Constraint Handling Techniques and Multi-Population Framework

Aimed at improving the insufficient search ability of constraint differential evolution with single constraint handling technique when solving complex optimization problem, this paper proposes a constraint differential evolution algorithm?based on ensemble of constraint handling techniques and multi-population?framework, called ECMPDE. First, handling three improved variants of differential evolution algorithms are dynamically matched with two constraint handling techniques through the constraint allocation mechanism. Each combination includes three variants with corresponding constraint handling technique?and these combinations are in the set. Second, the population is divided into three smaller subpopulations and one larger reward subpopulation. Then a combination with three constraint algorithms is randomly selected from the set, and the three constraint algorithms are run in three sub-populations respectively. According to the improvement of fitness value, the optimal constraint?algorithm is selected to run on the reward sub-population, which can share?information and close cooperation among populations. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, 12 standard constraint optimization problems?and 10 engineering constraint optimization problems are tested. The experimental results show that ECMPDE is an effective algorithm for solving constraint optimization problems.
