Background: The sustainable development goals (SDGs) aim to end HIV/AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. Understanding the current state of the HIV epidemic and its change over time is essential to this effort. This study assesses the current sex-specific HIV burden in 204 countries and territories and measures progress in the control of the epidemic. Methods: To estimate age-specific and sex-specific trends in 48 of 204 countries, we extended the Estimation and Projection Package Age-Sex Model to also implement the spectrum paediatric model. We used this model in cases where age and sex specific HIV-seroprevalence surveys and antenatal care-clinic sentinel surveillance data were available. For the remaining 156 of 204 locations, we developed a cohort-incidence bias adjustment to derive incidence as a function of cause-of-death data from vital registration systems. The incidence was input to a custom Spectrum model. To assess progress, we measured the percentage change in incident cases and deaths between 2010 and 2019 (threshold >75% decline), the ratio of incident cases to number of people living with HIV (incidence-to-prevalence ratio threshold <0·03), and the ratio of incident cases to deaths (incidence-to-mortality ratio threshold <1·0). Findings: In 2019, there were 36·8 million (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 35·1–38·9) people living with HIV worldwide. There were 0·84 males (95% UI 0·78–0·91) per female living with HIV in 2019, 0·99 male infections (0·91–1·10) for every female infection, and 1·02 male deaths (0·95–1·10) per female death. Global progress in incident cases and deaths between 2010 and 2019 was driven by sub-Saharan Africa (with a 28·52% decrease in incident cases, 95% UI 19·58–35·43, and a 39·66% decrease in deaths, 36·49–42·36). Elsewhere, the incidence remained stable or increased, whereas deaths generally decreased. Using English as pivot to extract Persian-Italian parallel sentences from non-parallel corpora

The effectiveness of a statistical machine translation system (SMT) is very dependent upon the amount of parallel corpus used in the training phase. For low-resource language pairs there are not enough parallel corpora to build an accurate SMT. In this paper, a novel approach is presented to extract bilingual Persian-Italian parallel sentences from a non-parallel (comparable) corpus. In this study, English is used as the pivot language to compute the matching scores between source and target sentences and candidate selection phase. Additionally, a new monolingual sentence similarity metric, Normalized Google Distance (NGD) is proposed to improve the matching process. Moreover, some extensions of the baseline system are applied to improve the quality of extracted sentences measured with BLEU. Experimental results show that using the new pivot based extraction can increase the quality of bilingual corpus significantly and consequently improves the performance of the Persian-Italian SMT system. In this work, we report the set-up and results of the Liver Tumor Segmentation Benchmark (LiTS), which was organized in conjunction with the IEEE International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging (ISBI) 2017 and the International Conferences on Medical Image Computing and computer-Assisted Intervention (MICCAI) 2017 and 2018. The image dataset is diverse and contains primary and secondary tumors with varied sizes and appearances with various lesion-to-background levels (hyper-/hypo-dense), created in collaboration with seven hospitals and research institutions. Seventy-five submitted liver and liver tumor segmentation algorithms were trained on a set of 131 computed tomography (CT) volumes and were tested on 70 unseen test images acquired from different patients. We found that not a single algorithm performed best for both liver and liver tumors in the three events. The best liver segmentation algorithm achieved a Dice score of 0.963, whereas, for tumor segmentation, the best algorithms achieved Dices scores of 0.674 (ISBI 2017), 0.702 (MICCAI 2017), and 0.739 (MICCAI 2018). Retrospectively, we performed additional analysis on liver tumor detection and revealed that not all top-performing segmentation algorithms worked well for tumor detection. The best liver tumor detection method achieved a lesion-wise recall of 0.458 (ISBI 2017), 0.515 (MICCAI 2017), and 0.554 (MICCAI 2018), indicating the need for further research. Cloud computing has become a widely used paradigm in many IT domains such as e-health. It offers several advantages to the users, e.g. elasticity, flexibility and the rapid sharing of a huge set of digital data. However, many security and privacy concerns still pose significant challenges. In particular, the most identified problem is how to enforce the user's security policy in the access control of the outsourced data. In fact, cloud environments does not provide facilities to support high level defined security policies. For instance, the swift storage component of openstack supports only fine grained access control to execute a specific action on a specific defined object. In this paper, we designed and implemented a middleware to provide high level security policies while using such swift fine grained primitives. An e-health collaborative application dedicated for remote diagnosis is used to illustrate the suggested approach. © 2015 IEEE.

Data aggregation is a key element in many applications that draw insights from data analytics, such as medical research, smart metering, recommendation systems and real-time marketing. In general, data is gathered from several sources, processed, and publicly released for data analysis. Since the considered data might contain personal and sensitive information, special handling of private data is required. In this paper, we present a novel distributed privacy-preserving data aggregation protocol, called ADiPA. It relies on anonymization techniques for protecting personal data, such as k-anonymity, l-diversity and t-closeness. Its purpose is to allow a set of entities to derive aggregate results from data tables that are partitioned across these entities in a fully decentralized manner while preserving the privacy of their individual sensitive inputs. ADiPA neither relies on a trusted third party nor on cryptographic techniques. The protocol performs accurate aggregation when communication links and nodes do not fail. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

This paper presents a novel approach intended to detect sinkholes in MANETs running AODV. The study focuses on the detection of thewell-known sinkhole attack, devoted to attractmost of the surrounding network traffic by providing fake routes, and thus, invalidating alternative legitimate routes and disrupting the normal network *** detection approach relies on the existence of "contamination borders", formed by legitimate nodes under the influence of the sinkhole attack and, at the same time, neighbors of non-contaminated legitimate nodes. Thus, by collecting the routing information of the neighbors, these nodes are likely to be able to properly detect *** evaluate our approach in a simulation framework and the experimental results show the promising nature of this approach in terms of detection capabilities. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2015.

Today cloud security and privacy concerns pose significant challenges. One particular challenge consists in how to take into consideration the user's security policies while accessing the outsourced data. In fact, for a given application, we may have a set of rules, as high level security policy, which needs to hold prior to any query execution. Therefore, the main problem that we tackle in this ongoing project is how to enforce this high level security policy in the cloud storage layer without conflicts. To address this challenges, we propose a middleware denoted curlX which consists of two main processes: the security policy enforcement process and the verification process.

NTT and its research partners are participating in the "Can a robot get into the University of Tokyo?" project run by the National Institute of Informatics, which involves tackling English exams. The artificial intelligence system we developed took a mock test in 2014 and achieved a better-than-human-average score for the first time. This was a notable achievement since English exams require English knowledge and also common sense knowledge that humans take for granted but that computers do not necessarily possess.
