Geometry-based optimal power control was proposed in [14] to transform the power-control problem to a new geometrical problem on the position relationship between a line and some points. This scheme provides a novel visual perspective and lowers the complexity of optimization. We generalize this scheme to a larger class of power-control optimization problems so as to maximize the network utility with multiple average and peak power constraints in wireless networks. To facilitate the handling of the geometrical model, we define a subset of geometrical models with specified characteristics, called a regular geometrical model, and derive the type of power-control problems eligible for the regular geometrical model. For such a type of problems, two strategies are proposed for the construction of the regular geometrical model. Utilizing geometrical properties, we propose a novel geometry-based optimization scheme for the general power-control problem. Its computational complexity is significantly lower than the conventional algorithms. We also provide a further discussion on irregular geometrical model cases. Finally, we provide two examples of deploying the proposed geometry-based power-control scheme.

Keyword spotting (KWS) refers to detection of a limited number of given keywords in speech utterances. In this paper, we evaluate a robust keyword spotting system based on hidden markov models for speaker independent Persian conversational telephone speech. Performance of base line keyword spotter is improved by means of normalizing features using cepstral mean and variance normalization (CMVN) and cepstral gain normalization (CGN). And better performance is gained by applying auto-regressive moving average (ARMA) filter on normalized features. Experimental results show that although all these methods improve keyword spotting performance, CMVN and ARMA (MVA) processing of PLP features works much better on our Persian conversational telephone speech database and 41% improvement to baseline system is achieved at false alarm (FA) rate equal to 8.6 FA/KW/Hour. © 2011 IEEE.

Keyword spotting refers to detection of all occurrences of any given word in a speech utterance. In this paper, we define the keyword spotting problem as a binary classification problem and propose a discriminative approach for solving it. Our approach exploits evolutionary algorithm to determine the separating hyper plane between two classes: class of sentences containing the target keywords and class of sentences which don't include the target keywords. The results on TIMIT indicate that the proposed method has good performance equal to 95.7 FOM value (average true detection rate for different false alarm per keyword per hour) and acceptable speed equal to 3.3 RTF (Real Time Factor) value. © 2011 IEEE.

Tissue P systems are distributed parallel and non-deterministic computing models in the framework of membrane computing, which are inspired by intercellular communication and cooperation between neurons. Recently, cell separation is introduced into tissue P systems, which enables systems to generate an exponential workspace in a polynomial time. In this work, the computational power of tissue P systems with cell separation is investigated. Specifically, a uniform family of tissue P systems with cell separation is constructed for effciently solving a well-known NP-complete problem, the partition problem.

Recently, Gutiérrez-Naranjo and Leporati considered performing basic arithmetic operations on a new class of bioinspired computing devices - spiking neural P systems (for short, SN P systems). However, the binary encoding mechanism used in their research looks like the encoding approach in electronic circuits, instead of the style of spiking neurons (in usual SN P systems, information are encoded as the time interval between spikes). In this work, three SN P systems are constructed as adder, subtracter and multiplier, respectively. In these devices, a number is inputted to the system as the interval of time elapsed between two spikes received by input neuron, the result of a computation is the time between the moments when the output neuron spikes. © 2011 IEEE.

In recent decades, Laser-based spectroscopy (LAS) has been used in a wide range of research and application fields due to developments in laser technology and infrared spectroscopy. A particular application of interest is mid-IR laser-based gas detection systems for health and environment assessment. In this paper, we use our statistical analysis model for a generic mid-IR pulsed-laser gas detection system to predict trace gas detection and concentration estimation performance, and their sensitivity to system parameters. Based on PNNL data and the Beer-Lambert law, we use the three main spectral peaks of a trace gas, as the basis for gas detection, and use the relationship between gas transmittance β, molar absorptivity ε, concentration, and the sample-mean measurement, x N , from the photodetector, as the basis for concentration estimation using a standard confidence interval method.

Performance evaluation for an HMM-based keyword spotter and a large-margin based one in noisy environments

Keyword spotting refers to the detection of a limited number of given keywords in speech utterances. In this paper, first we review one of the large margin based keyword spotting approach that uses a discriminative method for training the keyword spotter. Then, we evaluate the robustness of this approach in different noisy conditions. In addition; we compare the performance of this method with an HMM-based keyword spotter -which uses a generative training method- in the same noisy conditions. The experimental results show that the large-margin based keyword spotter is more robust than HMM-based system in noisy environments.

An adaptive antenna array system adjusts the main lobe of radiation pattern in the direction of desired signal and points the nulls in the direction of undesired signals or interferers. The essential goal of beamforming is to reduce the complexity of weighting process and to decrease the time needed for adjusting the antenna radiation pattern. In this article a new adaptive weighting algorithm is proposed for both least mean squares (LMS) and constant modulus (CM) algorithms. It is appropriate and applicable for antenna array systems with moving targets and also mobile applications as well as sensor networks. By predicting the relative velocity of source, the next location of the source will be estimated and the array weights will be determined using LMS or CM algorithm before arriving to the new point. For the next time associated to the new sampling point, evaluated weights will be used. Furthermore, by updating these weights between two consecutive times the effects of error propagation will be eliminated. Therefore, in addition to reduction in computational complexity at the time of weight allocation, relatively accurate weight allocation can be obtained. Simulation results of this investigation show that the angular error related to both LMS-based and CM-based algorithms is less than the conventional LMS and CM algorithms at different signal to noise ratios (SNRs). On the other hand, due to considering off-line process, online computational complexity of new algorithms is slightly low with respect to previous ones.

In this paper, the performance of the Single-Estimation （SE） and Multiple-Estimation （ME） is investigated in Multiple-Input Multiple-Output （MIMO） Rician fading channels using the Maximum Likelihood （ML） technique and the new Shifted Scaled Least Squares （SSLS） estimator. Analytical and numerical results show that both estimators have lower error in the case of ME than SE. Moreover, it is seen that increasing the channel Rice factor improves the performance of the SSLS estimator. However, the ML estimator cannot exploit the knowledge of the Rician fading channel. As a result, in fast fading MIMO channels with a short coherence time, the SSLS estimator can be used in SE mode. On the other hand, the ML estimator has only good results in the case of ME. This estimator is appropriate for slow fading MIMO channels with a long coherent time.
