Prediction of the amino acids that have a catalytic effect on the enzymes is a major stage in appointing the activity of the enzymes and classification. The biological activity of a protein usually depends on the existence of a small number of amino acids. Recently, many algorithms have been proposed in the literature for finding these amino acids which are complex and time consuming. In this paper, we will introduce a new method for predicting the active sites that will use the spatial coordinates and the type of amino acids that contain the active sites. In order to increase the speed we use an approximate graph isomorphism algorithm. Furthermore, this algorithm allows us to find several active sites for a protein and order them according to a RMSD (Root Mean Square Deviation) number which has several applications in biology.

This paper introduces a divide and conquer approach to the design of transmit and receive filters for communication over a Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) Gaussian channel subject to an average power constraint. It involves conversion to a set of parallel scalar channels, possibly with very different gains, followed by coding per sub-channel (i.e. over time) rather than coding across sub-channels (i.e. over time and space). The loss in performance is negligible at high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and not significant at medium SNR. The advantages are reduction in signal processing complexity and greater insight into the SNR thresholds at which a channel is first allocated power. This insight is a consequence of formulating the optimal power allocation in terms of an upper bound on error rate that is determined by parameters of the input lattice such as the minimum distance and kissing number. The resulting thresholds are given explicitly in terms of these lattice parameters. By contrast, when the optimization problem is phrased in terms of maximizing mutual information, the solution is mercury waterfilling, and the thresholds are implicit.

A two-hop multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) amplify-and-forward (AF) relay scenario is analyzed in this paper, where the main design challenge resides on the selection of the interdependent precoding and relaying matrices. After analyzing the optimal joint iterative linear design of the precoding and relaying matrices, two simpler non-iterative approaches are proposed and derived: hop-by-hop minimum mean squared error (MMSE) minimization and block diagonal geometric mean decomposition (BD-GMD). The combination of these two techniques and vector precoding (VP) is then proposed to greatly improve the performance of the systems. Provided sim- ulation results prove that the combination of non-linear precoding and simpler matrix design strategies can outperform the optimal and complex joint iterative design with linear transmission.

Binary sequences with low aperiodic autocorrelation function sidelobes, such as Barker, quasi-Barker, and minimum peak sidelobe sequences have found extensive applications in radar and communications systems. However, there is no systematic method to construct such desirable binary sequences except the use of time consuming and costly exhaustive computer search. In this paper, an upper bound on the maximum imbalance of binary sequences with low aperiodic autocorrelation is derived and is expressed in terms of the sequence length, the window size and the peak sidelobe levels. It sheds some light on the tradeoff between the sequence parameters involved and may be useful in developing efficient sequence searches. © 2011 IEEE.

The diversity and multiplexing tradeoff (DMT) has been extensively applied in the literature to compare the high-SNR outage performance of relaying techniques and to propose new design guidelines. The problem with this approach is that the DMT provides only a coarse measure of performance and, hence, it is more convenient to adopt the diversity, multiplexing, and array gain (DMA) framework, in which the error probability is characterized by two parameters: the diversity gain (associated with the SNR exponent) and the array gain (related to the SNR offset). In this paper, we derive the DMA tradeoff associated with the cut-set bound outage probability of the static half-duplex MIMO relay under uncorrelated/semicorrelated Rayleigh fading and uncorrelated Rician fading. This provides an upper bound to the DMA tradeoff achievable by any relaying scheme.

Today, more attention is paid to emergency systems and rescuer organizations due to the increasing sensitivity to natural disasters and terrorist attacks. In this paper, we would consider the feasibility of telecommunication technologies that can enhance the interconnection between accident zones and rescue teams. A novel philosophy inspired by Software Defined Radios is proposed in order to design a reconfigurable receiver for rescue team assistance in emergency scenarios, which can encompass some basic functionalities, i) spectrum sensing and automatic mode identification, ii) dynamic multistandard reconfigurability, iii) navigation and communication integration. Results shown can prove the feasibility of the software implementation of the reconfigurable terminal over suitable processing architectures, characterized by affordable cost and open-source software development.

Following the seminal work of Zheng and Tse on the diversity and multiplexing tradeoff (DMT) of MIMO channels, in this paper we introduce the array gain to investigate the fundamental relation between transmission rate and reliability in MIMO systems. The array gain gives information on the power offset that results from exploiting channel state information at the transmitter or as a consequence of the channel model. Hence, the diversity, multiplexing, and array gain (DMA) analysis can be directly translated into a parameterized characterization of its associated outage probability performance. In this paper we derive the fundamental DMA tradeoff achievable by any scheme in uncorrelated Rayleigh, semicorrelated Rayleigh, and uncorrelated Rician block-fading MIMO channels. We use these results to analyze the effect of important channel parameters in the outage performance at different points of the DMT curve.

Spectral unmixing is a fast growing area in hyperspectral image analysis. Many algorithms have been recently developed to retrieve pure spectral components (endmembers) and determine their abundance fractions in mixed pixels, which dominate hyperspectral images. However, possible connections between spectral unmixing concepts and classification algorithms have been rarely investigated. In this work, we propose a new method to perform semi-supervised hyperspectral image classification exploiting the information retrieved with spectral unmixing. The proposed method integrates a well-established discriminative classifier (multinomial logistic regression) with linear spectral unmixing. Furthermore, the proposed method uses a new active sampling approach which takes into account spatial context when generating new samples. The proposed method is experimentally validated using both simulated and real hyperspectral data sets. © 2011 IEEE.
