Design Joins the Battle Against Sickle-cell Disease

作者: Lori E Crosby Naomi E Joffe Linda A Dunseath Rachel Lee Pediatric psychologist at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. She is also co‐director of Innovations in Community Research and Program Evaluation and the director of training for the Community Engagement Core of the Cincinnati Center for Clinical and Translational Science and Training. As a director and collaborator on more than 15 federal grants Crosby has emerged as a leader in conducting research to transform the healthcare system for adolescents and young adults with sickle cell disease. In 2012 she was elected as Fellow of the American Psychological Association Division 54 for her work with individuals affected by sickle cell disease. She holds a doctorate from Wright State University School of Professional Psychology (Dayton Ohio). Doctorate in clinical psychology and completed her residency and fellowship in pediatric psychology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC). Joffe stayed on at CCHMC and is now clinical faculty within the Division of Behavioral Medicine serving hematology patients within the Cancer and Blood Diseases Institute. Her research focuses on diverse pediatric populations within the context of chronic illness and she has examined factors related to adherence self‐management pain and coping. She earned her bachelor's degree from Indiana University and her doctorate from Georgia State University. Executive director of the Live Well Collaborative (LWC) an innovation incubator that partners with the University of Cincinnati (UC) and member organizations to develop products and services to meet the growing needs of the 50+ population. Since joining LWC in 2007 she has worked with industry partners and UC to plan 37 projects that have exposed more than 500 students and 30 faculty to multidisciplinary teamwork using design‐thinking tools. The Smithsonian Institution has acquired his archives. He is participating in Documenta 13. Felicity D. Scott is director of the program in Critical Curatorial and Conceptual Practices in Architecture (CCCP) at the Graduate School of Architecture Planning and Preservation Columbia University. She is the author of Architecture or Techno-Utopia: Politics After Modernism (MIT Press 2007) and Living Archive 7: Ant Farm (ACTAR 2008). She recently completed the manuscript for a book titled “Cartographies of Drift: Bernard Rudofsky's Encounters with Modernity.” Mark Wasiuta teaches at Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture Planning and Preservation where he is also Director of Exhibitions and Director of Global Experiments in Art and Architecture. His research is focused on the turn to theories of environment and environmental design in postwar architecture and he is currently working on a history of Los Angeles air its pollution and other contaminants.

He was the Design Manager for the Engineering and Design Phase ofthe Enhanced Maritime Prepositioning Fme Ship (MPF(E)). Cuwently Mt: M2.zumdar is Deputy Ship Design Manager in NAVSEA 030 for the LHD and LSD classes of ships. Mr. Mazumdar was awarded a BSE in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1981 and an MS in Computer Science fiom Virginia Tech in 1988. He also possesses an International ChiejEngineer License (Motot unlimited). Mr. Mancmdar has been an Associate Member of WAME since 1981. James C. Sandison:is a Senior Ship Design Manager (SDM) for surface ships in the Nawl Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA03D3C). He has a long tem practical background in design construction and testing of surface ships. Starting in NAVSEC as a diving and salvage systems engineer for the Bathyscaph TRIESTE he has been involved with most ofthe Nays Mine Warfare and Auxiliary ships from naval architect to the present Senior Ship Design Manager for the Strategic Sealift Program. Mr: Sandison entered the U.S. Navy in 1956 in the (diesel) Submarine Service. Afterward he “went to sea in sailing ships and completed an apprenticeship as a wooden shipbuildex. His other tasks have included the command and control for the AEGIS shipbuilding program systems engineering for the 21st Century Surface Combatant combat system survivability and the development of NATO standardization agreements for naval ordnance. He was previously a Senior Engineer with San Diego Gas & Electric with responsibility for its energy application and lighting programs. Prior to joining SDG&E Mr. Leite was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy where he served in operations and engineering assignments. Following active duty he accepted a Naval Reserve commission and has retired with the rank of Captain. His assignments included command operational and engineering tours. Mr. Leite has also served as an expert witness in admiralty and engineering matters. He is a gradate of the University of California Berkeley with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and also holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from National University in San Diego.
