PIWI-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) are a type of small non-coding RNAs which bind with the PIWI proteins to exert biological effects in various regulatory mechanisms. A growing amount of evidence reveals that exosomal piRNAs are potential biomarkers for diagnosis and treatment of complex diseases. Effective methods for the prediction of exosomal piRNAs are the foundation of piRNA functional research. In this study, we propose an end-to-end deep network for identifying exosomal piRNAs based on features learned from natural language processing (NLP) models for sequence embedding with attention mechanism. First, a benchmark dataset is constructed by processing piRNA subcellular localization annotated data and sequence data. Moreover, bagging positive unlabeled learning is applied to get the reliable negative set. Finally, we treat a piRNA sequence as a sentence and its k-mer subsequence as a token. Sequence embedding models with self-attention mechanism is designed to extract features from exosome piRNA sequences, which are used for the prediction task. Compared with three competing methods, our model achieves the best performance and reveals the key factors of exosomal piRNA sequences by the attention mechanism. Our model characterizes exosomal piRNAs and could be beneficial for researchers to investigate exosomal piRNAs’ functions.

Entity representation learning is both fundamental and crucial for link prediction in knowledge graph. Existing entity representation learning approaches mainly focus on learning from knowledge triples with single modal text data which could only describe the things or concepts in words. However, multimodal data commonly exists in the real worlds and may describe things or concepts from different aspects. Therefore, multimodal entities have emerged in knowledge graph in recent years, which greatly enrich the knowledge graph by different information. This paper focuses on how to learn more robust and comprehensive representations of multimodal entities for better link prediction. A new representation learning method for multimodal entities is proposed, called Graph Attention with Bi-pooling Representation Learning (GBRL), where multimodal fusion and knowledge embedding are combined for learning representations of an entity with consideration of its multimodal neighbors. Firstly, feature vectors are obtained by pre-trained models for each modality. Then, the bilinear pooling is utilized for combining feature vectors of multimodal entities into multimodal feature vectors. A two-layer graph attention module is followed to generate multimodal representations of an entity from its multimodal neighbors. Finally, the inception decoder uses multimodal knowledge embedding to calculate scores for link prediction. The experimental results have shown that the proposed method performs well on link prediction by consideration of multimodal entities comparing with traditional methods that using only single modal text data.

The article puts focus on the the problem of performance assessment for UAV formation with leader-following structure and switching communication topology in the presence of unknown exogenous perturbations. First, two time-varying indicators are devised on the basis of the regulated outputs of the followers. Then, a trainable performance assessment model is constructed by means of belief rule base expert system (BRB) with the two time-varying indicators as the inputs and the assessment utility as the final output. At last, relevant simulation experiments are conducted to validate the practicability of the established performance assessment model for leader-following UAV formation subject to switching communication topology and unknown external perturbations.

During the last two decades, content-based image retrieval (CBIR) has been widely studied. The limitations of low-level feature representation of images have been a thorny issue in image retrieval problems. In this paper, a CBIR algorithm based on sparse representation and feature fusion is proposed, in which global features and local features are combined to retrieve the images. Firstly, the GIST features are used to roughly retrieve the images with similar scene information by measuring Canberra distance. Then, a representation of the local features extracted from the rough retrieval results is obtained by sparse coding and feature pooling. Finally, Euclidean distance is used to measure the similarity of the sparse feature vectors to obtain the retrieval results. The proposed method is tested on the Coil20 and Caltech256 image datasets. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can achieve comparable superior retrieval performance to the existing single feature-based image retrieval algorithms. © 2019 IEEE.

In this paper, we analyze the response of passive quantum linear systems in a non-Markovian environment to single photon input fields. Based on an augmented modelling method for non-Markovian quantum systems, analytic forms of output intensity and output covariance function in steady-state are derived. These results allow us to quantitatively analyze the influence of non-Markovian environment on system response under a framework of linear system theory.

In this paper, we propose a non-Markovian quantum channel approach to mitigating the degradation of the average fidelity in continuous-variable quantum teleportation. The non-Markovian quantum channel is modeled by an augmented system, where ancillary systems are introduced to represent the internal modes of non-Markovian environments. With a proper non-Markovianity, enhanced effects of the channels on continuous-variable quantum teleportation are observed. Also, the logarithmic negativity of entangled states can be effectively maintained so that the decay of the average fidelity of quantum teleportation is mitigated. In addition, the analysis on different teleported quantum states shows that coherent states exhibit stronger robustness than those of squeezed states and cat states in quantum teleportation with a non-Markovian channel. Multi-camera vehicle tracking (MCVT) system is a key technology to build an intelligent city and intelligent transportation system. The MCVT system utilizes roadside monitoring devices and computing platforms to achieve city-level road traffic perception at a finer scale by tracking each vehicle on the road to obtain the trajectory. The existing MCVT system mainly focuses on dealing with the algorithm modules separately, without studying the real-time performance and system architecture of the entire pipeline. However, in real-world applications, many of the tricks in improving evaluation metrics are not applicable since there is endless traffic flow running all the time. Therefore, this paper proposes a real-time framework of the MCVT system to streamline all the algorithm modules with proper data flow. Firstly, a multi-threaded multi-vehicle tracking (MVT) module is developed to detect vehicles in each camera. Re-identification is implemented during MVT to provide the feature for tracking in the same camera and across different cameras. Then, after the vehicle leaves the camera field of view, the feature of vehicle trajectory is calculated by averaging the feature at each frame. Meanwhile, a background thread runs continuously to match the incoming feature of vehicle trajectory with past features by conducting a topology searching method. In the end, the vehicle trajectories with well-matched features are considered to be the same vehicle. The entire pipeline has been validated on two different datasets, the precision is 0.64 in the CityFlow dataset which uses 6 cameras simultaneously. In the customized dataset, the same method can still reach real-time when using 16 cameras at the same time with smaller network modules.

The multi-energy system (MES) takes into account different forms of energy such as electricity, heat, and gas, and coordinate the different processes from the side of supply to demand. It truly realizes the mutual complementation of multiple energy resources and can greatly improve the flexibility and efficiency compared to traditional energy systems. In this paper, we study the economic dispatch (ED) problem in the MES aiming to minimize both generation and pollution cost. A distributed method via the symmetric alternating direction multiplier method (symmetric-ADMM) is proposed to deal with non-convex factors caused by coupling between different energy sources. Through the dynamic consensus mechanism and the variational inequality, we prove that the proposed algorithm has the convergence rate of $\mathcal{O}\left( {\frac{1}{t}} \right)$. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified by simulations on the IEEE 24-bus system.

Genetic algorithm (GA) is an effective method for path planning problems. As a powerful variant of GA, island genetic algorithm (IGA) has considerable improvement in performance. In this paper, a new island model of GA is proposed to avoid the premature phenomenon and achieve better efficiency. First, a new method of creating subpopulations is presented based on K-means to expand the searching area for the optima. Meanwhile, recombining subpopulations is proposed as a new strategy to improve the diversity of populations and save computational time. Moreover, a method is designed based on Monte Carlo sampling to handle the uncertainty of maps. Comparative experiments are presented to verify the efficiency of the proposed algorithm. Then, a proper number of samples is found by simulation to balance the accuracy and the time cost of Monte Carlo sampling.

Preselection is an important strategy to improve evolutionary algorithms’ performance by filtering out unpromising solutions before fitness evaluations. This paper introduces a pre-selection strategy based on an approximated Pareto domination relationship for multiobjective evolutionary optimization. For each objective, a binary relation between each pair of solutions is constructed based on the current population, and a binary classifier is built based on the binary relation pairs. In this way, an approximated Pareto domination relationship can be defined. When new trial solutions are generated, the approximated Pareto domination is used to select promising solutions, which shall be evaluated by the real objective functions. The new preselection is integrated into two algorithms. The experimental results on two benchmark test suites suggest that the algorithms with preselection outperform their original ones.
