Preselection is an important strategy to improve evolutionary algorithms’ performance by filtering out unpromising solutions before fitness evaluations. This paper introduces a pre-selection strategy based on an approximated Pareto domination relationship for multiobjective evolutionary optimization. For each objective, a binary relation between each pair of solutions is constructed based on the current population, and a binary classifier is built based on the binary relation pairs. In this way, an approximated Pareto domination relationship can be defined. When new trial solutions are generated, the approximated Pareto domination is used to select promising solutions, which shall be evaluated by the real objective functions. The new preselection is integrated into two algorithms. The experimental results on two benchmark test suites suggest that the algorithms with preselection outperform their original ones.

This paper addresses the robustness of a network to sustain its connectivity and controllability against malicious attacks. This kind of network robustness is typically measured by the time-consuming attack simulation, which returns a sequence of values that record the remaining connectivity and controllability after a sequence of node- or edge-removal attacks. For improvement, this paper develops an efficient framework for network robustness prediction, the spatial pyramid pooling convolutional neural network (SPP-CNN). The new framework installs a spatial pyramid pooling layer between the convolutional and fully-connected layers, overcoming the common mismatch issue in the CNN-based prediction approaches and extending its generalizability. Extensive experiments are carried out by comparing SPP-CNN with three state-of-the-art robustness predictors, namely a CNN-based and two graph neural networks-based frameworks. Synthetic and real-world networks, both directed and undirected, are investigated. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed SPP-CNN achieves better prediction performances and better generalizability to unknown datasets, with significantly lower time-consumption, than its counterparts. © 2023, CC BY.

Simulators play a crucial role in autonomous driving, offering significant time, cost, and labor savings. Over the past few years, the number of simulators for autonomous driving has grown substantially. However, there is a growing concern about the validity of algorithms developed and evaluated in simulators, indicating a need for a thorough analysis of the development status of the simulators. To bridge the gap in research, this paper analyzes the evolution of simulators and explains how the functionalities and utilities have developed. Then, the existing simulators are categorized based on their task applicability, providing researchers with a taxonomy to swiftly assess a simulator’s suitability for specific tasks. Recommendations for select simulators are presented, considering factors such as accessibility, maintenance status, and quality. Recognizing potential hazards in simulators that could impact the confidence of simulation experiments, the paper dedicates substantial effort to identifying and justifying critical issues in actively maintained open-source simulators. Moreover, the paper reviews potential solutions to address these issues, serving as a guide for enhancing the credibility of simulators. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The safe and stable operation of the generator set is related to the national economy and people's livelihood. As an important part of generator excitation system, carbon brush and slip ring temperature monitoring can effectively evaluate the state of the generator, which plays a vital role. Most of the current researches use infrared images to monitor carbon brush temperature, but there are often problems such as high noise and unclear focus. According to the requirements of infrared image display, this paper combines the method of bistable stochastic resonance to denoise the image, and on this basis, introduces the adaptive stochastic resonance array method to denoise the gray image. Experimental results show that compared with common image denoising methods and classic bistable stochastic resonance, the adaptive stochastic resonance array method has improved both visual effects and peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), which further proves the good application of stochastic resonance in weak signal detection and extraction. © 2021 IEEE

Multi-object tracking (MOT) aims to associate objects of interest across sequences, which has rapidly progressed with the development of object detection and optimal matching techniques. However, spatio-temporal modeling complex variations, such as camera motion and occlusion in crowded scenes, have been relatively underexplored in recent years. In this work, a temporal concern through motion-guided feature aggregation module is proposed to capture multi-frame variations for instances. Additionally,an occlusion-aware head and hierarchical spatial association are proposed to handle the challenges of occlusion through spatial perception. The above approach, namely MSPNet addresses the challenges posed by occlusion effectively, resulting in improved tracking performance. Evaluation on benchmark datasets shows that MSPNet achieves the state-of-the-art performance. Specifically, MSPNet achieves 75.4% MOTA, and 72.4% IDF1 on the test set of MOT16, 74.6% MOTA, and 71.9% IDF1 on MOT17, 75.9% MOTA, and 74.4% IDF1 on MOT20, respectively. © 2023, The Authors. The renewable energy is connected to the power grid through power electronic converters, which are lack of make the inertia of synchronous generator/machine (SM) be lost. The increasing penetration of renewable energy in power system weakens the frequency and voltage stability. The Grid-Forming Converters(GFCs) simulate the function of synchronous motor through control method in order to improve the stability of power grid by providing inertia and stability regulation mechanism. This kind of converter control methods include virtual synchronous machine, schedulable virtual oscillator control and so on. These control method mainly use AC side state feedback and do not monitor the DC side state. This paper analyzes the control strategy of GFC considering power grid stability, including Frequency Droop control, Virtual Synchronous Machine control and dispatchable Virtual Oscillator control. The DC side voltage collapse problem is found when a large load disturbance occurs. The control methods of GFC considering DC side voltage feedback are proposed, which can ensure the synchronization characteristics of grid connection and solve the problem of DC side voltage collapse. To improve support system for subjects with respiratory ailments, this work analyses the respiratory patterns from spirometer and surface electromyography (sEMG). The patterns are integrated with risk and biochemical systems model to optimise the clinical decision support system (CDSS). The work considers terminal events for the spirometer and sEMG. The events and their associated patterns are correlated and projected on a hyperspace prior implementing it in decision support system. The proposed method shows that the different characteristics of breathing indicate some essential hidden information which when used as 4D scattered projection, optimises the decision making in CDSS. The analysis shows the effectiveness of bimodal respiratory patterns for different breathing capacities, which is promising for the modelled conditions.

The high-dimensional generalization of the one-dimensional Kuramoto paradigm has been an essential step in bringing about a more faithful depiction of the dynamics of real-world systems. Despite the multi-dimensional nature of the oscillators in these generalized models, the interacting schemes so far have been dominated by a scalar factor unanimously between any pair of oscillators that leads eventually to synchronization on all dimensions. As a natural extension of the scalar coupling befitting for the one-dimensional case, we take a tentative step in studying numerically and theoretically the coupling mechanism of 2 × 2 real matrices on two-dimensional Kuramoto oscillators. One of the features stemmed from this new mechanism is that the matrix coupling enables the two dimensions of the oscillators to separate their transitions to either synchronization or desynchronization which has not been seen in other high-dimensional generalizations. Under various matrix configurations, the synchronization and desynchronization of the two dimensions combine into four qualitatively distinct modes of position and motion of the system. We demonstrate that as one matrix is morphed into another in a specific manner, the system mode also switches correspondingly either through continuous or explosive transitions of the order parameters, thus mimicking a range of behaviors in information science and biology.
