Nonlinear Filtering With Sample-Based Approximation Under Constrained Communication:Progress, Insights and Trends

The nonlinear filtering problem has enduringly been an active research topic in both academia and industry due to its ever-growing theoretical importance and practical *** main objective of nonlinear filtering is to infer the states of a nonlinear dynamical system of interest based on the available noisy measurements. In recent years, the advance of network communication technology has not only popularized the networked systems with apparent advantages in terms of installation,cost and maintenance, but also brought about a series of challenges to the design of nonlinear filtering algorithms, among which the communication constraint has been recognized as a dominating concern. In this context, a great number of investigations have been launched towards the networked nonlinear filtering problem with communication constraints, and many samplebased nonlinear filters have been developed to deal with the highly nonlinear and/or non-Gaussian scenarios. The aim of this paper is to provide a timely survey about the recent advances on the sample-based networked nonlinear filtering problem from the perspective of communication constraints. More specifically, we first review three important families of sample-based filtering methods known as the unscented Kalman filter, particle filter,and maximum correntropy filter. Then, the latest developments are surveyed with stress on the topics regarding incomplete/imperfect information, limited resources and cyber ***, several challenges and open problems are highlighted to shed some lights on the possible trends of future research in this realm.

In this paper, an event-triggered time-varying formation tracking control for a class of second-order nonlinear multiagent systems(MAS) operating within a constrained region is investigated. To mitigate the negative effects of external unknown disturbance, a novel disturbance observer with performance guarantees is proposed, enabling precise disturbance *** the artificial potential field(APF) method, a repulsive potential function is introduced to prevent inter-agent collisions as well as collisions with environmental obstacles. To reduce continuous communication and frequent system updates, a sliding mode technique is incorporated into the formation tracking controller, utilizing an event-triggered mechanism. The controller is also applicable to the formation control of MAS in switching-constrained regions. The achievement of the specified timevarying geometric formation is rigorously demonstrated through the Lyapunov framework. Numerical simulations are presented to validate the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

Dynamic properties of mode Ⅰ and mode Ⅱ fractures of shale under impact loading

Controllable shock wave fracturing is an innovative engineering technique used for shale reservoir fracturing and *** the anisotropic fracture mechanism of shale under impact loading is vital for optimizing shock wave fracturing equipment and enhancing shale oil *** this study,using the well-known notched semi-circular bend(NSCB)sample and the novel double-edge notched flattened Brazilian disc(DNFBD)sample combined with a split Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB),various dynamic anisotropic fracture properties of Lushan shale,including failure characteristics,fracture toughness,energy dissipation and crack propagation velocity,are comprehensively compared and discussed under mode Ⅰ and mode Ⅱ fracture ***,using a newly modified fracture criterion considering the strength anisotropy of shale,the DNFBD specimen is predicted to be a robust method for true mode Ⅱ fracture of anisotropic shale *** experimental results show that the dynamic mode Ⅱ fracture of shale induces a rougher and more complex fracture morphology and performs a higher fracture toughness or fracture energy compared to dynamic mode Ⅰ *** minimal fracture toughness or fracture energy occurs in the Short-transverse orientation,while the maximal ones occur in the Divider *** addition,it is interesting to find that the mode Ⅱ fracture toughness anisotropy index decreases more slowly than that in the mode Ⅰ fracture *** results provide significant insights for understanding the different dynamic fracture mechanisms of anisotropic shale rocks under impact loading and have some beneficial implications for the controllable shock wave fracturing technique.

The investigations of surface waves in the piezoelectric medium bring out great possibility in designing smart surface acoustic wave(SAW)*** is important to study the dispersion properties and manipulation mechanism of surface waves in the semi-infinite piezoelectric medium connected with periodic arrangement of shunting *** this study,the extended Stroh formalism is developed to theoretically analyze the dispersion relations of surface waves under different external *** band structures of both the Rayleigh wave and the Bleustein-Gulyaev(BG)wave can be determined and manipulated with proper electrical boundary ***,the electromechanical coupling effects on the band structures of surface waves are discussed to figure out the manipulation mechanism of adjusting electric *** results indicate that the proposed method can explain the propagation behaviors of surface waves under the periodic electrical boundary conditions,and can provide an important theoretical guidance for designing novel SAW devices and exploring extensive applications in practice.

Multi-layer analytic solution for k-ωmodel equations via a symmetry approach

Despite being one of the oldest and most widely-used turbulence models in engineering computational fluid dynamics(CFD),the k-ωmodel has not been fully understood theoretically because of its high nonlinearity and complex model parameter ***,a multi-layer analytic expression is postulated for two lengths(stress and kinetic energy lengths),yielding an analytic solution for the k-ωmodel equations in pipe *** local balance equations are analyzed to determine the key parameters in the solution,which are shown to be rather close to the empirically-measured values from the numerical solution of the Wilcox k-ωmodel,and hence the analytic construction is fully *** results provide clear evidence that the k-ωmodel sets in it a multilayer structure,which is similar to but different,in some insignificant details,from the Navier-Stokes(N-S)*** finding explains why the k-ωmodel is so popular,especially in computing the near-wall ***,the analysis is extended to a newlyrefined k-ωmodel called the structural ensemble dynamics(SED)k-ωmodel,showing that the SED k-ωmodel has improved the multi-layer structure in the outer flow but preserved the setting of the k-ωmodel in the inner region.

Investigation on the influence of vortex generator on particle resuspension

The vortex generator(VG)and its well-known effect in flow optimization are widely studied and employed across different engineering ***,while the same working principles of VG may be well suited for the applications on surface-cleaning technologies,such promising potential is hardly,if any,explored in the published ***,in the present study,the influence on flow-induced particle resuspension brought by a rectangular vG in a channel flow is investigated with the help of highfidelity computational fluid dynamics *** increases of particle removal forces and resuspension rates are discovered in long,strip-like regions with reduced boundary-layer thickness resulted from the vG-induced vortices,and the enhancement effect is especially significant for configurations with the VG installed at a greater angle of *** is also shown that while the resuspension enhancements on the lower and the upper surfaces of the channel exhibit distinct statistical characteristics,having a VG in the channel improves the overall particle-removing capability of the channel flow by introducing higher surface-averaged removal forces and particle resuspension *** but not least,the increase of resuspension rate is especially significant for the smaller,micron-scale particles which are otherwise hardly disturbed by a VG-less channel flow,and such resuspension-enhancement effectgenerally subsides with increasing particle size.

High-performance organic friction modifiers(OFMs)added to lubricating oils are crucial for reducing energy loss and carbon *** establish a new class of OFMs,we measured the friction and wear properties of N-(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-oxyl-4-piperidinyl)dodecaneamide referred to as *** effect of its head group chemistry,which is characterized by a rigid six-membered ring sandwiched by an amide group and a terminal free oxygen radical,was also investigated with both experiments and quantum mechanical(QM)*** measurement results show that C12Amide-TEMPO outperforms the conventional OFMs of glyceryl monooleate(GMO)and stearic acid,particularly for load-carrying capacity,wear reduction,and stability of friction over *** friction and wear reduction effect of C12Amide-TEMPO is also greatly superior to those of C12Ester-TEMPO and C12Amino-TEMPO,in which ester and amino groups replace the amide group,highlighting the critical role of the amide *** QM calculation results suggest that,in contrast to C12Ester-TEMPO,C12Amino-TEMPO,and the conventional OFMs of GMO and stearic acid,C12Amide-TEMPO can form effective boundary films on iron oxide surfaces with a unique double-layer structure:a strong surface adsorption layer owing to the chemical interactions of the amide oxygen and free radical with iron oxide surfaces,and an upper layer owing to the interlayer hydrogen-bonding between the amide hydrogen and free radical or between the amide hydrogen and ***,the intralayer hydrogen-bonding in each of the two layers is also *** suggest that in addition to strong surface adsorption,the interlayer and intralayer hydrogen-bonding also increases the strength of the boundary films by enhancing the cohesion strength,thereby resulting in the high tribological performance of *** findings in this study are expected to provide new hints for the optimal molecular design of OFMs.

Theoretical and experimental investigation of the resonance responses and chaotic dynamics of a bistable laminated composite shell in the dynamic snap-through mode

The dynamic model of a bistable laminated composite shell simply supported by four corners is further developed to investigate the resonance responses and chaotic *** existence of the 1:1 resonance relationship between two order vibration modes of the system is *** resonance response of this class of bistable structures in the dynamic snap-through mode is investigated,and the four-dimensional(4D)nonlinear modulation equations are derived based on the 1:1 internal resonance relationship by means of the multiple scales *** Hopf bifurcation and instability interval of the amplitude frequency and force amplitude curves are *** discussion focuses on investigating the effects of key parameters,e.g.,excitation amplitude,damping coefficient,and detuning parameters,on the resonance *** numerical simulations show that the foundation excitation and the degree of coupling between the vibration modes exert a substantial effect on the chaotic dynamics of the ***,the significant motions under particular excitation conditions are visualized by bifurcation diagrams,time histories,phase portraits,three-dimensional(3D)phase portraits,and Poincare ***,the vibration experiment is carried out to study the amplitude frequency responses and bifurcation characteristics for the bistable laminated composite shell,yielding results that are qualitatively consistent with the theoretical results.
