Evolution and detection of vector superradiant instabilities

Ultralight vectors can extract energy and angular momentum from a Kerr black hole (BH) due to superradiant instability, resulting in the formation of a BH-condensate system. In this work, we carefully investigate the evolution of this system numerically with multiple superradiant modes. Simple formulas are obtained to estimate important timescales, maximum masses of different modes, as well as the BH mass and spin at various times. Due to the coexistence of modes with small frequency differences, the BH-condensate system emits gravitational waves with a unique beat signature, which could be directly observed by current and projected interferometers. Besides, the current BH spin-mass data from the binary BH merger events already exclude the vector mass in the range 5×10−15 eV<μ<9×10−12 eV.

Utilizing high-resolution antenna arrays and wide bandwidth of the millimeter-wave (mmWave) spectrum in 5G new radio (NR) mmWave communication systems holds the potential for high-throughput data transmission while enabling user localization and environmental mapping. However, the majority of existing simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) algorithms rely on methods akin to the extended Kalman filter for generating initial map features. These methods prove ineffective when the measurement dimension is insufficient. Furthermore, there is a notable absence of research exploring mmWave prototype systems to evaluate and compare the performance and viability of various SLAM algorithms. To address these challenges, we propose an innovative probability hypothesis density (PHD) generation scheme for birth events and have developed a prototype system. Our approach, referred to as PHD-SLAM, exhibits remarkable effectiveness even in scenarios where the measurement dimension falls short of map features. This means it can function seamlessly with only delay or angle information available. Additionally, we have designed a 28GHz mmWave beam scanning prototype system that leverages the 5G NR frame for accomplishing SLAM algorithms. Following this, we conducted extensive simulations and experimental evaluations to gauge the performance of several leading-edge SLAM algorithms under diverse mmWave circumstances, encompassing PHD-based and belief propagation (BP) SLAM algorithms. Our analysis reveals that both PHD and BP SLAM can achieve agent localization precision within a decimeter and mapping precision within a meter, capitalizing on the angle parameters of mmWave signals. While BP SLAM showcases reduced computational demand, its estimation precision is marginally inferior to that of PHD-SLAM. © 2014 IEEE.

When employing the network architecture search approach for designing a steel surface defect detector, there are issues with conflicting evaluation metrics and limited computational resources. To address this challenge, we propose a multiobjective evolutionary sharing strategy-based network architecture search method (MESNAS). MESNAS defines network architecture search as a bi-level multiobjective optimization problem combined with a weight sharing acceleration strategy designed to quickly and simultaneously optimize the accuracy and complexity of classification models. A refined search space suitable for different image classification and detection tasks is designed. Using the MOEA/D algorithm, which incorporates a variable-length encoding scheme, the search space is co-utilized and explored through targeted improvements to the crossover and mutation operators in the offspring generation process. The optimal network architecture obtained from the search is tested on the concrete surface defect classification task, and the steel continuous casting slab surface defect detection task. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has good model performance and portability in image classification as well as defect detection tasks with different data complexities and different categories. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Both concentrations and emissions of many air pollutants have been decreasing due to implement of control measures in China,in contrast to the fact that an increase in emissions of non-methane hydrocarbons(NMHCs)has been *** study employed seven years continuous NMHCsmeasurements and the related activities data of Shanghai,a megacity in China,to explore evolution of emissions and effectiveness of air pollution control *** mixing ratio of NMHCs showed no statistical interannual changes,of which their compositions exhibited marked *** resulted in a decreasing trend of ozone formation potential by 3.8%/year(p<0.05,the same below),which should be beneficial to ozone pollution mitigation as its production in Shanghai is in the NMHCs-limited *** alkanes,aromatics and acetylene changed by+3.7%/year,-5.9%/year and-7.4%/year,respectively,and alkenes showed no apparent *** sources were apportioned by a positive matrix factorization ***,vehicular emissions(-5.9%/year)and petrochemical industry emissions(-7.1%/year)decreased significantly,but the decrease slowed down;significant reduction in solvent usage(-9.0%/year)appeared after 2010;however,emissions of natural gas(+12.6%/year)and fuel evaporation(with an increasing fraction)became more *** inconsistency between observations and inventories was found in interannual trend and speciation as well as source contributions,emphasizing the need for further validation in NMHCs emission *** study confirms the effectiveness of measures targeting mobile and centralized emissions from industrial sources and reveals a need focusing on fugitive emissions,which provided new insights into future air policies in polluted region.

Smart soft dielectric elastomer actuators(SSDEAs)possess wide applications in soft robotics due to their properties similar to natural muscles,including large deformation ratio,high energy density,and fast response ***,the complicated asymmetric and rate-dependent hysteresis property,creep property and quadratic input property of the SSDEA pose enormous challenges to its dynamic modeling and motion *** this paper,first,we construct the dynamic model of the SSDEA by connecting a square module,a one-sided Prandtl–Ishlinskii(OSPI)model and a linear system in series to describe the above *** key and innovative aspect of the dynamic modeling lies in cascading the square module in series with the OSPI model to construct the asymmetric hysteresis ***,a PI-funnel and inverse hysteresis compensation(PIFIHC)cascade control method of the SSDEA is proposed to actualize its tracking control *** performing the inversion operation on the asymmetric hysteresis model,the inverse hysteresis compensation controller(IHCC)is designed to compensate the asymmetric hysteresis property and quadratic input property of the *** addition,a PI-funnel controller is designed to cascade with the IHCC to construct the PIFIHC cascade controller to obtain a good tracking ***,the stability analysis of the PIFIHC cascade control system of the SSDEA is performed to theoretically prove that the tracking error can be controlled within the performance funnel and the steady-state error converges to ***,several practical tracking control experiments of the SSDEA are conducted,and RRMSEs are less than 2.30%for all *** experimental results indicate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed PIFIHC cascade control method of the SSDEA.

Computer-aided diagnosis has emerged as a crucial trend in modern medicine. Recently, CT-based automatic detection algorithms for lung infectious diseases suffer from issues of low accuracy and complex architecture. In this paper, three MoB-NetV2 models (MoB-NetV2-SNN, MoB-NetV2-ELM, and MoB-NetV2-RVFL) for the detection of COVID-19 in CTs are proposed. the MoB-NetV2 model is proposed by inserting batch normalization layers between bottlenecks in MobileNetV2 and substituting the fully connected layer with the Net-1 model (SNN, ELM, RVFL), i.e. MoB-NetV2-SNN, MoB-NetV2-ELM, and MoB-NetV2-RVFL. After comparison, it is found that the proposed MoB-NetV2-RVFL achieves an average accuracy of 93.42% on a private dataset comprising of 2392 images, while the precision is reached at 97.33%. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that our MoB-NetV2-RVFL outperforms other existing algorithms in the literature. High classification accuracy and precision and low computing amount are achieved, thereby enhancing the potential application of the model in the field of medical image-aided diagnosis of COVID-19 virus. © The Institution of Engineering & Technology 2024.

Haptic-Aided Navigation Vehicle: Enhancing Obstacle Detection in Blind Spots and Transparent Object Scenarios

As autonomous mobile robots are increasingly deployed in complex environments, traditional vision sensors and LiDAR encounter considerable limitations, particularly in detecting obstacles in blind spots or transparent objects. To address the issue of blind spots, we design a specialized haptic sensing structure and develop the haptic-aided navigation vehicle (HANV). This system integrates haptic sensors and LiDAR to deliver comprehensive perception, significantly enhancing close-range obstacle detection in areas that are typically beyond the range of conventional sensors. To tackle the challenge of transparent obstacles, which are often undetected by both vision and LiDAR sensors, we employ a fusion of haptic sensors and LiDAR. The haptic system provides physical contact feedback, ensuring reliable detection of transparent obstacles such as glass, while LiDAR offers long-range sensing capabilities. This combination enables HANV to navigate effectively in environments with transparent obstacles, overcoming the limitations of traditional sensing systems. Experiment results indicate that the proposed haptic and LiDAR integration substantially improves obstacle detection in both blind spots and environments with transparent obstacles. HANV achieves high success rates, minimal collisions, and efficient obstacle avoidance, particularly excelling in complex, confined spaces where conventional systems prove inadequate. With the advancement of industrial automation and artificial intelligence technology, unmanned port autonomy has gained increasing attention. Port automatic driving technology is a critical component of unmanned autonomous systems, enabling rubber tire gantry cranes (RTGs) to autonomously navigate by detecting port lanes and implementing control commands. In this study, a deep learning-based method is proposed for detecting port lanes in complex port scenes. The method employs the Inception module and attention mechanism to enhance lane feature extraction, and a structural loss is introduced to explicitly constrain the detection results and incorporate the prior characteristics of port lanes. A novel Mixed Feature Attention Network (MFANet) is proposed to implement the method for port lane detection. Experimental results demonstrate that MFANet effectively improves the accuracy of port lane detection while maintaining high computational efficiency. Furthermore, the performance of MFANet is evaluated in a real-world application scenario. © 2023 Technical Committee on Control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.

Considering the actual multi-agent coverage process, the motion trajectories are seriously affected by disturbances and noise. In this paper, a cooperative control method based on active disturbance rejection controller (ADRC) for multiple mecanum-wheeled robots (MWMR) is proposed to improve its robustness. In particular, to suppress the total disturbances during the running of each robot and reduce large computation and observation cost of high order ADRC, a reduced-order cascaded ADRC (RC-ADRC) is proposed. Moreover, distributed controller is proposed to track the expected trajectories of multiple mecanum-wheeled robots under disturbances. Compared with the proposed RC-ADRC based cooperative control scheme and PID based cooperative control one, the favorable motion trajectory tracking performance is obtained. Simulation results verify the superiority of the method. © 2023 IEEE.

Federated learning is a distributed training method that integrates multi-party data information using privacy-preserving technologies through dispersed client data sets to jointly construct a global model under the coordination of a central server. However, in practical applications, there is a high degree of data distribution skewness among clients, which causes the optimization direction of the client models to diverge, resulting in model bias and reducing the accuracy of the global model. Existing methods require the calculation and transmission of much information to correct the optimization direction of the client models, or only roughly limit the deviation of the client models end-to-end, ignoring targeted processing of the internal structure of the model, resulting in unclear improvement effects. To address these problems, we propose a federated optimization algorithm FedECCR based on encoding contrast and classification correction. This algorithm divides the model into an encoder and a classifier. It utilizes prototype contrastive training of the model encoder and unbiased classification correction of the classifier. This approach notably improves the accuracy of the global model while maintaining low communication costs. We conducted experiments on multiple data sets to evaluate the validity of our method, and the quantified results showed that FedECCR can improve the global model classification accuracy by approximately 1% to 6% compared to FedAvg, FedProx, and MOON. © ICST Institute for Computer sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2024.
