With the increasing importance of data privacy protection, various privacy-preserving machine learning methods have been proposed. In the clustering domain, various algorithms with a federated learning framework (i.e., federated clustering) have been actively studied and showed high clustering performance while preserving data privacy. However, most of the base clusterers (i.e., clustering algorithms) used in existing federated clustering algorithms need to specify the number of clusters in advance. These algorithms, therefore, are unable to deal with data whose distributions are unknown or continually changing. To tackle this problem, this paper proposes a privacy-preserving continual federated clustering algorithm. In the proposed algorithm, an adaptive resonance theory-based clustering algorithm capable of continual learning is used as a base clusterer. Therefore, the proposed algorithm inherits the ability of continual learning. Experimental results with synthetic and real-world datasets show that the proposed algorithm has superior clustering performance to state-of-the-art federated clustering algorithms while realizing data privacy protection and continual learning ability. In this paper, we introduce the approach for the synchronization of semi-implicit finite-difference schemes using the adaptive symmetry coefficient control. The proposed method is based on the known parametric adaptive control method that is often used in communication schemes for covert data transmission. In such systems, the desired signal is encoded by switching between two values of the nonlinearity parameter of the chaotic system. The vulnerability of this scheme is that the switching can be detected since the properties of the generated signals can differ significantly depending on various values of nonlinearity parameters. In this study, we propose to synchronize semi-implicit schemes using the symmetry coefficient instead of parameters. Thus, synchronized models will generate signals with similar properties and the switching can be less detectable in comparison with the conventional approach. The developed adaptive synchronization technique can be useful in systems for secure data transmitting including secure communication for the industrial Internet of Things. © 2020 IEEE.

In this research we propose a simulation study of the acoustophoretic motion of microplastic particles suspended in a water-filled microchannel. The mechanism of acoustofluidic microparticles sorting was analyzed in dedicated originally designed Lab-chip device. Under the action of acoustic waves, the microparticles are focused at the points of the acoustic pressure nodes and transported further for detection and analysis.

This study determines an innovative way of teaching, assessing, and examining students devoid of utilizing paper in the lectures, midterms, and last tests of two classes. That is to say, computer-aided design and computer-aided engineering, for third and fourth-year students, respectively. Paperless learning is the name for this way, in which computers are utilized interactively to teach and assess students and take tests. The students are involved interactively in studying scientific lessons;computer software is used to capitalize on their potential to develop learning and help students do reproductions to resolve different engineering exercises. The outcomes exhibited that the students deliver a significant consideration to the lessons utilized in the two classes. Furthermore, the rating procedure is more proficient than the usual methods. The review showed that the students tend to be positive in evaluating the lessons and professors. Additionally, the significance of the other profits of the paperless method is offered. © 2020 IEEE.

We report the synthesis, structure and nonlinear optical properties of cadmium sulphide (CdS) nanocrystallines (NCs) synthesized electrochemically both with and without detergent ATLAS G3300. Relevant structural and morphological features are explored by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. The efficiency of the second harmonic generation (SHG) appears to be strongly dependent on the energy density of the incident fundamental laser radiation and NC sizes. © 2022, CC BY.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a monogenic cardiovascular disorder that has been poorly studied at the molecular, genetic, and computational levels. Here, we examined the genetic map of HCM polymorphic targets using a computational approach to identify new phytochemicals with potential therapeutic properties. We demonstrate the range of mutations associated with cardiomyopathies, and identify new associations between genes and phenotypes in this disease category. Specifically, our findings suggest that several genes associated with channelopathies might serve as genetic modifiers, altering the clinical features and severity of cardiomyopathic phenotypes, thus likely impacting disease manifestation.

Strength and stability are two key aspects of multi-storied Reinforced Concrete (RC) building design. While strength aspect has been given a due importance and is well understood, stability aspect in design is most underrated. Specially, structural design offices accepts codal based values of Effective Length Factor, k, to ensure stability of designed multi-storied RC buildings. Proper estimation of factor ‘k’, thus become important and an integral part of structural design of RC buildings. The present study aim towards realistic determination of effective length factor, k, for multi storied RC building. Implication of effective length factor, k, on structural design of a RC building is studied through geometric parameters like Stiffness Ratio, Inter-storey Drift and Maximum displacement and through design parameters like Axial Force and Bending Moment. It has been observed that, most of the commercial soft wares uses the value for effective length, k, as a unity i.e., 1 and warrants P-Δ effect making building frame as a non-sway frame. The article is dedicated to the consideration of new methods for the synthesis of digital environmental monitoring systems, inclusive to the analysis through the methodology of machine learning. The role of circuit components proposed for implementation is considered. Attention is paid to the specifics of the analysis of already measured data and to the memory device of information-measuring systems. Several strategies using neural network algorithms have been established to automate the process of evaluating parameters regarding the freeze–thaw resistance of hardened concrete from image data. However, the performance of such models is dependent on the quality of the datasets used for training. Hand-labeling concrete image data is challenging, where especially small micro air voids (<300 μ m) can be overlooked. This potentially leads to algorithms that are unable to accurately detect the micro air void content, despite being required by current standards (e.g. DIN EN 480-11). To account for this, a method was developed using confocal laser scanning microscopy and the “Segment Anything” model. Acquiring surface height-data through confocal laser scanning microscopy expendites the labeling process and creates more reliable training data due to the detectability of air voids through height differences. Furthermore, by combining the height-data with RGB-images it was possible to accurately distinguish between air voids, aggregates and cement paste with high repeatability between repeated labeling iterations. Keeping high magnification levels (120-480x) enabled the detection of air voids down to 5 μ m. The framework and dataset presented in this study are fundamental for further development of new neural network based algorithms, specialized for the characterization and evaluation of the freeze–thaw resistance of concrete.

The number of researches aimed at understanding the chaotic behavior of nonlinear dynamical systems has grown considerably in recent years. The development of electronic circuits that exhibit this type of behavior has been the interest of numerous works in the literature. Among the possible sets of nonlinear systems, the simplest in which one can observe bifurcation phenomena and chaotic behavior, followed by well- controlled experiments, are nonlinear electronic circuits. One of the most widely used tools for analysis and evaluation of chaotic behavior is known as the bifurcation diagram. Generally, in the analysis of these circuits, parameters such as voltage, current and frequency are used to verify their respective behaviors. Variable values of passive components such as resistors and capacitors are also widely used. The temperature has also been used as a bifurcation parameter in resistor, diode and inductor (RLD) circuits. However, there is little attention from the scientific community on temperature as a bifurcation parameter for electronic circuits using operational amplifiers such as the chaotic Jerk circuit. In this sense, this project aims to implement a chaotic Jerk circuit, composed of operational amplifiers, resistors and capacitors, and subject it to different temperature levels, using this variable as an analysis parameter. Thus, at the end of this work it was possible to verify that the temperature variation directly influences the behavior of the investigated system, thus reaching the final objective of the project, presenting that the temperature can be a bifurcation parameter for a chaotic Jerk circuit.
