This paper theoretically studies the axisymmetric frictionless indentation of a transversely isotropic piezoelectric semiconductor(PSC)half-space subject to a rigid flatended cylindrical *** contact area and other surface of the PSC half-space are assumed to be electrically *** the Hankel integral transformation,the problem is reduced to the Fredholm integral equation of the second *** equation is solved numerically to obtain the indentation behaviors of the PSC half-space,mainly including the indentation force-depth relation and the electric potential-depth *** results show that the effect of the semiconductor property on the indentation responses is limited within a certain range of variation of the steady carrier *** dependence of indentation behavior on material properties is also analyzed by two different kinds of *** element simulations are conducted to verify the results calculated by the integral equation technique,and good agreement is demonstrated.

This paper introduces a novel real-time motion simulation algorithm that enables approximate position analysis of planar N-bar linkage mechanisms of arbitrary complexity. The algorithm was designed specifically for implementation in a web-based software platform, although not exclusively, with the aim of facilitating the simulation and design of mechanisms incorporating revolute and prismatic joints, for both students and industry practitioners. To ensure the efficient computation of positions, all geometric and actuation constraints of links in a mechanism were reduced to the same form, enabling the use of a unified approach. A key aspect of the algorithm is the use of a reinterpretation trick to convert all prismatic elements into a combination of links with only revolute joints. This simplification requires only two solvers while providing motion output within a desired degree of error. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm employs a solving path-finding procedure based on mobility analysis to further reduce simulation time. The resulting algorithm offers the ability to simulate serial, parallel, and hybrid mechanisms with any degree-of-freedom. Additionally, the time estimation for the simulation process and the estimation expression of a mechanism's structural complexity are provided. To demonstrate the practical utility of the proposed method, the algorithm is applied to several mechanisms as examples. © 2023 American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). All rights reserved.

A Surrogate-Assisted Evolutionary Framework for Expensive Multitask Optimization Problems

This paper proposes a surrogate-assisted evolutionary framework (called SELF) to solve expensive multitask optimization problems (ExMTOPs). SELF consists of two main phases: global knowledge transfer phase and local knowledge transfer phase. In the former, a multitask Gaussian process model (MTGP) is established by fusing previously evaluated solutions of multiple optimization tasks. MTGP can capture task-relevant information and the knowledge of landscapes. Then, differential evolution assisted with MTGP is proposed to preselect high-quality candidates. During the preselection, the knowledge of landscapes is transferred among multiple optimization tasks for locating promising regions quickly. In the latter, for each optimization task, Bayesian optimization is adopted to improve the quality of the best individual in the population. Moreover, the improved best individuals in the populations of multiple optimization tasks are adaptively transferred based on a transfer probability, which is computed through the task-relevant information provided by MTGP. By combining these two phases, SELF not only achieves the tradeoff between exploration and exploitation, but also utilizes the global and local knowledge transfer to improve the efficiency for solving ExMTOPs. We test SELF on seven benchmark test problems in the IEEE CEC2017 evolutionary multitask optimization competition. The results demonstrate that the performance of SELF is better than that of other seven advanced methods. In addition, we also apply SELF to deal with two real-world ExMTOPs. The designs provided by SELF exhibit the best performance among all the compared methods, verifying the potential of SELF in practical engineering applications. IEEE

An inverse design method for supercritical airfoil based on conditional generative models

Inverse design has long been an efficient and powerful design tool in the aircraft *** this paper,a novel inverse design method for supercritical airfoils is proposed based on generative models in deep learning.A Conditional Variational Auto Encoder(CVAE)and an integrated generative network CVAE-GAN that combines the CVAE with the Wasserstein Generative Adversarial Networks(WGAN),are conducted as generative *** are used to generate target wall Mach distributions for the inverse design that matches specified features,such as locations of suction peak,shock and aft *** and quantitative results show that both adopted generative models can generate diverse and realistic wall Mach number distributions satisfying the given *** CVAE-GAN model outperforms the CVAE model and achieves better reconstruction accuracies for all the samples in the ***,a deep neural network for nonlinear mapping is adopted to obtain the airfoil shape corresponding to the target wall Mach number *** performances of the designed deep neural network are fully demonstrated and a smoothness measurement is proposed to quantify small oscillations in the airfoil surface,proving the authenticity and accuracy of the generated airfoil shapes.

Single degree-of-freedom (DOF) mechanisms have been widely used as motion executers for their compact structure and simple control. However, a single-DOF mechanism can only lead through one specific motion trajectory. Thus, they usually cannot handle multiple tasks well, i.e., realizing a good fit of multiple trajectories. In order to solve such problems, this paper proposes an approach to design multi-mode single-DOF six bar mechanisms, which could individually realize multiple task trajectories using only one driving input via an optimized structure with a selected adjustable parameter (A-Parameter). First, a source mechanism for multi-mode watt-I six bar linkage is designed with 9 candidate adjustable parameters (link lengths, location of pivots, etc.), which enables the same mechanism to fit multiple trajectories by selecting only one parameter to be adjustable. Next, to select the optimal A-Parameter, a multi-objective optimization algorithm NSGA-II + ARSBX is used to demonstrate and analyze the Pareto front optimization under different A-Parameters. Then, we use an example of three different human gait trajectories to show how the synthesis multi-mode single-DOF six bar mechanism is conducted with our approach. In the end, the comparison of task trajectories and the resulting trajectories are presented, which show that the method proposed in this paper is feasible. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The internet became a common communication platform for many people. However, information transmission is not secure, and there is a high probability of copying and altering the information easily. In the public network, transmitting sensitive or private information needs some kind of protection. Unless a secure channel is utilized for the transmission. Hiding the information is one of the efficient techniques that provides a solution for transmitting confidential data over communication channels. These techniques should meet various application requirements such as high robustness against attacks, real-time, and high hiding capacity. Generally, information-hiding techniques suffer from many challenges. This paper provides an insight into these techniques, their applications, and challenges to fill the gap of missing such an overview. © 2023 ACM.

Often, the description of the physical effect in the “primary” sources of information (patent documents, journal articles of a physical profile, dissertations in physics) contains graphs of dependencies linking the physical quantities of the input and output impacts of the physical effect (PhE). The analysis of this information and its use to expand the description of the physical effect is an urgent task. A modification of the model for describing the physical effect was carried out, taking into account the graphical representation of the functional dependence of the physical quantities of the PhE. CNN, LSTM, Visual Transformer (ViT) neural networks and machine learning methods of Naive Bayes, SVM have been tested in relation to classification and recognition tasks on images of dependency graphs. A comparative analysis of the approaches (accuracy of definition, complexity of data preparation, fault tolerance, equipment requirements) was carried out using criteria of precision, recall, F-measure, AUC-ROC.

Currently, patent documents contain graphic images of device drawings, graphs, chemical and mathematical formulas, and the formulas often need to be recognized and brought to a unified standard. This work analyzes graphic images extracted from the descriptions of FIPS Rospatent patents. Thematic filtering of mathematical and chemical formulas contained in patent documents and their recognition is provided. The theoretical value lies in the developed patent parsing algorithms in the *** system; recognition of chemical and mathematical formulas among graphic patent images; converting graphic images of chemical formulas into SMILES format; converting graphic images of mathematical formulas into LaTeX format. The practical significance of the work lies in the developed software module for analyzing graphic images from patent documents. The scope of the developed module is the study of patents and the reduction of graphic images to a unified standard for solving patent examine problems.

Vibratory equipment is widely used in various fields of mechanical, industrial, and manufacturing engineering. Particularly, such machines can be effectively implemented while carrying out finishing technological operations, e.g., glazing, polishing, and lapping of different machine parts. The present paper is focused on developing the control system for the novel design of a vibratory lapping-polishing machine driven by six solenoids. The main purpose consists in providing the circular trajectory of the working member and ensuring the machining uniformity at each point of the surface being treated. In such a case, it is proposed to actuate the solenoids with the specified time shift depending on the forced frequency needed to be provided. The duration of the signal actuating the solenoid is equal to one-sixth of the total duration of a cycle (period) of the working body oscillation. The corresponding control approach is developed and simulated in the Tinkercad application, while the control system is designed based on the Arduino hardware and software. In addition, the laboratory prototype of the vibratory lapping-polishing machine and the corresponding control system are implemented in practice. The performed laboratory studies and experimental tests substantiate the possibilities of generating the circular oscillations of the working member of the vibration-driven lapping-polishing machine. The obtained results may be useful for engineers and technologists dealing with control systems of various vibratory technological equipment based on electromagnetic and solenoid-type drives. © 2023 IEEE.
