The spanning Tree-based genetic algorithm plays an important role in solving the problem of multi-object transport. In order to improve the efficiency of determining the feasibility of the chromosomes, an improved algorithm is put forward, in this paper. The analysis of the examples proved that the algorithm is not only workable but also can improve the efficiency of determining the feasibility of the chromosomes, particularly for large-scale problems of multiobject transport. © 2009 IEEE.

In this paper, we propose a therapeutic-assisted robot for children with autism to ameliorate their skill of joint attention. The robot conducts a goal-directed based interaction to establish engagement between the child and robot in order to establish a beneficial learning environment for autistic children. An unsupervised Mixture Gaussian-based cluster method is proposed to detect the child's intention in real time to process the goal-directed task smoothly. The novelty of this approach is that does not require the use of any training data or a trained model to detect the child's intention. Our autonomous robotic system is tested with several autistic children at a School for the Disabled in Nagoya, Japan. The results of the initial interaction showed that the children enjoyed interaction with and feedback from the robot, which confirmed that the robot can be used as mediator or an object of joint attention. The unsupervised approach was able to detect the children's intention at every time segment to process the goal-directed task with a higher accuracy rate. The results of the goal-directed task showed that the proposed interaction was highly effective in enhancing their joint attention. Since most of the children attempted to imitate the robot's gestural behaviors and used a variety of learning patterns to attend to the robot's fingered object in the environment to obtain joint attention with robot. © 2009 IEEE.

Wide baseline cameras are broadly utilized in binocular vision systems, delivering depth information and stereoscopic images of the scene that are crucial both in virtual reality and in computer vision applications. However, due to the large distance between the two cameras, the stereoscopic composition of stereo pairs with wide baseline is hardly to fit the human eye parallax. In this paper, techniques and algorithms for the stereoscopic composition of wide baseline stereo pairs in binocular vision will be investigated. By incorporating the human parallax limitation, a novel algorithm being capable of adjusting the wide baseline stereo pairs to compose a high quality stereoscopic image will be formulated. The main idea behind the proposed algorithm is, by simulating the eyeball rotation, to shift the wide baseline stereo pairs closer to each other to fit the human parallax limit. This makes it possible for the wide baseline stereo pairs to be composed into a recognizable stereoscopic image in terms of human parallax with a minor cost of variation in the depth cue. In addition, the depth variations before and after the shifting of the stereo pairs are evaluated by conducting an error estimation. Examples are provided for the evaluation of the proposed algorithm. And the quality of the composed stereoscopic images proves that the proposed algorithm is both valid and effective. © 2009 by ASME.

The multilayer composite film stack is a common feature of the microsensors based on thin film technology. In this paper, we propose an analytical model to investigate the Young's moduli, hardness, and residual stresses of the constitutive film layers of a multilayer film stack. A multilayer film stresses model is derived to evaluate the residual stress distributions in the constitutive film layers of a ZnO pyroelectric sensor. A good agreement among the multilayer film stresses model, the grain morphologies characterized by scanning electron microscopy, the mechanical properties testing by nanoindentation, and the voltage responsivity measurement of the ZnO pyroelectric sensor is found in this paper. The proposed multilayer film stresses model can therefore be used to quantitatively analyze the film stresses and proceed to the optimization of thin film deposition process. © 2009 Elsevier Ltd. In this paper, an assistive robot is proposed for children with autism to enhance their joint attention, the main focus of which is an interactive scenario with potential modalities to establish a learning environment for children with autism. In order to implement the above interactive scenario, the robot has to detect a child's intention at every time segment. For this purpose, a novel attention detection algorithm is proposed which is based on a mixture Gaussian based unsupervised-clustering. A unique aspect of the proposed approach is does not require the use of any training data or models to detect a child' intention. Indeed, our algorithm is capable of detecting a child's intention when that child has a complex eye gaze pattern. These features are essential in the development of a robotic system for children with autism. The system was tested with autistic children who were attending a school for the disabled. The results were quite impressive, revealing that the children were indeed attracted to the robot and had engaged in interactions with it for a lengthy period of time. Overall, the results showed that the children's joint attention skills improved when the number of interactive trials with them was processed. In addition, taking into account its joint attention performance with the children, the robot was able to change the interactive scenarios autonomously. The proposed unsupervised model was capable of detecting a child's intention at every time segment with a recognition rate of over 75%.

为解决产品研发过程中复杂设计检测信息管理问题，保证部门间及企业间以产品为核心的检测信息的完整性、流通性和全程可追溯性，提出了一种面向产品全生命周期的检测管理PBVM方法。通过分析产品全生命周期检测需求信息，建立PBVM的模型、系统框架、粗粒度检测代理模型，在此基础之上设计了一种面向产品设计的检测代理，并实现权限管理，给出了面向服务架构的产品全生命周期检测管理体系框架。系统实现运用了SOA体系架构思想，部分使用了SOA的相关核心技术，使该系统层次结构清晰，具有良好的通用性和可维护性，降低了实现难度。最后给出了基于Teamcenter运行实例，验证了所提方法的可行性和实用性。

Tempo and beat tracking for audio signals with music genre classification

Most people follow the music to hum or the rhythm to tap sometimes. We may get different meanings of a music style if it is explained or felt by different people. Therefore we cannot obtain a very explicit answer if there is no music notation. Tempo and beats are very important elements in the perceptual music. Therefore, tempo estimation and beat tracking are fundamental techniques in automatic audio processing, which are crucial to multimedia applications. We first develop an artificial neural network to classify the music excerpts into the evaluation preference. And then, with the preference classification, we can obtain accurate estimation for tempo and beats, by either Ellis's method or Dixon's method. We test our method with mixed data set which contains ten music genres from the 'ballroom dancer' database. Our experimental results show that the accuracy of our method is higher than only one individual Ellis's method or Dixon's method. Copyright © 2009, Inderscience Publishers.

In order to generate the input data for rapid prototyping, a new approach which is based on the implicit surface interpolation method is presented. In the method a surface is reconstructed by creating smooth implicit surface from unorganized cloud of points through which the surface should pass. In the method an implicit surface is defined by the adaptive local shape functions including quadratic polynomial function, cubic polynomial function and RBF(Radial Basis Function). By the reconstruction of a surface, various types of error in raw STL file including degenerated triangles, undesirable holes with complex shapes and overlaps between triangles can be eliminated automatically. In order to get the slicing data for rapid prototyping an efficient intersection algorithm between implicit surface and plane is developed. For the direct usage for rapid prototyping, a robust transformation algorithm for the generation of complete STL data of solid type is also suggested.
