A new two-phased method for the simultaneous placement of modules for standard-cell layout is presented. In phase one, a relative placement is calculated by application of an iterative solution method taking advantage of net-list sparsity. A fast algorithm is derived from a new formulation of the problem. In addition, signal weights and pin coordinates are considered. In phase two, different-sized modules are assigned to physical locations by solving a transportation problem.

The use of simulation tools to verify the behavior of integrated circuits is a well established technique for circuit design. This paper describes a novel approach for circuit simulation that promises a significant improvement over conventional methods. The algorithm involves an explicit event driven technique that seems stable even when the accuracy of the solution is relaxed, and is able to perform automatic and dynamic partitioning of the network, thus allowing the full exploitation of latency in large digital networks. Although the basic method could be generalized for any type of circuit, in this paper the scope is limited to MOS integrated circuits.

This paper describes a new approach for synthesizing thermally integrated distillation sequences. There are two key developments in this research. First, the overall flowsheet is optimized simultaneously as opposed to the traditional technique of optimizing each tower sequentially followed by heat integration. Second, maximum energy recovery techniques are used to estimate the total energy requirements of the thermally integrated network, eliminating the need to synthesize a heat exchanger network on each function evaluation in the optimization routine. A frequently reported five component light alkane system (Rathore's Problem) was used to illustrate this approach. Optimized process flowsheets, energy savings and a comparison with literature values are presented. On dêrit, dans le présent travail, une nouvelle approche pour engendrer des séquences de distillation intégrées thermiquement. Cette recherche comprend deux nouveaux développements principaux. Tout d'abord, le diagramme d'écoulement global est optimisé simultanément, contrairement à la technique traditionnelle comportant l'optimisation de chaque tour séquentiellement, suivie d'une intégration thermique. En second lieu on emploie les techniques de récupération maximale d'énergie pour évaluer les besoins totaux en énergie du réseau intégré thermiquement, éliminant ainsi la nécessité d'introduire un circuit d'échangeurs de chaleur pour l'évaluation de chaque fonction dans la routine d'optimisation. Pour illustrer cette approche, on a employé un système (Problème de Rathore) d'alcanes légers comprenant cinq composants, souvent rapporté dans la littérature. On présente des schémas fonctionnels de precédés optimisés, les économies d'énergie et une comparaison avec des valeurs apparaissant dans la littérature.
