The number of researches aimed at understanding the chaotic behavior of nonlinear dynamical systems has grown considerably in recent years. The development of electronic circuits that exhibit this type of behavior has been the interest of numerous works in the literature. Among the possible sets of nonlinear systems, the simplest in which one can observe bifurcation phenomena and chaotic behavior, followed by well- controlled experiments, are nonlinear electronic circuits. One of the most widely used tools for analysis and evaluation of chaotic behavior is known as the bifurcation diagram. Generally, in the analysis of these circuits, parameters such as voltage, current and frequency are used to verify their respective behaviors. Variable values of passive components such as resistors and capacitors are also widely used. The temperature has also been used as a bifurcation parameter in resistor, diode and inductor (RLD) circuits. However, there is little attention from the scientific community on temperature as a bifurcation parameter for electronic circuits using operational amplifiers such as the chaotic Jerk circuit. In this sense, this project aims to implement a chaotic Jerk circuit, composed of operational amplifiers, resistors and capacitors, and subject it to different temperature levels, using this variable as an analysis parameter. Thus, at the end of this work it was possible to verify that the temperature variation directly influences the behavior of the investigated system, thus reaching the final objective of the project, presenting that the temperature can be a bifurcation parameter for a chaotic Jerk circuit.

The classical theory of signal processing assumes that the designed IIR filters are continuous and have infinitely accurate coefficients. However, when developing filters for real-world digital signal processing tasks, it is necessary to take into account the finite precision of the coefficients representation, especially considering the fixed-point arithmetic. In this paper, we propose a new approach, which we call the interval size approach, making it easy to evaluate the actual digital filter response for various fixed-point arithmetic parameters. We provide Illustrative examples to demonstrate the frequency response bounds evolution as an order, cutoff frequency, and signal frequency are varying. We show that the interval size can be used as a well-suited accuracy factor of a digital filter. © 2020 IEEE.

Previous resting state functional MRI (rs-fMRI) analyses of the basal ganglia in Parkinson's disease heavily relied on T1-weighted imaging (T1WI) atlases. However, subcortical structures are characterized by subtle contrast differences, making their accurate delineation challenging on T1WI. In this study, we aimed to introduce and validate a method that incorporates quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) into the rs-fMRI analytical pipeline to achieve precise subcortical nuclei segmentation and improve the stability of RSFC measurements in Parkinson's disease. A total of 321 participants (148 patients with Parkinson's Disease and 173 normal controls) were enrolled. We performed cross-modal registration at the individual level for rs-fMRI to QSM (FUNC2QSM) and T1WI (FUNC2T1), *** consistency and accuracy of resting state functional connectivity (RSFC) measurements in two registration approaches were assessed by intraclass correlation coefficient and mutual information. Bootstrap analysis was performed to validate the stability of the RSFC differences between Parkinson's disease and normal controls. RSFC-based machine learning models were constructed for Parkinson's disease classification, using optimized hyperparameters (RandomizedSearchCV with 5-fold cross-validation). The consistency of RSFC measurements between the two registration methods was poor, whereas the QSM-guided approach showed better mutual information values, suggesting higher registration accuracy. The disruptions of RSFC identified with the QSM-guided approach were more stable and reliable, as confirmed by bootstrap analysis. In classification models, the QSM-guided method consistently outperformed the T1WI-guided method, achieving higher test-set ROC-AUC values (FUNC2QSM: 0.87–0.90, FUNC2T1: 0.67–0.70). The QSM-guided approach effectively enhanced the accuracy of subcortical segmentation and the stability of RSFC measurement, thus facilitating future biomarker development in Parkinso

The growth of consumer electronic products is encouraged by innovations and has stimulated the persistent development of earphones for high-quality sound reproduction. Earbud earphone is located in the concha of the human ear facing an ear-canal. The placement of earphones in the concha plays a remarkable role in the sound pressure level response of an earphone. In this study, ten earphones were tested for frequency response and total harmonic distortion using head and torso simulator in an anechoic chamber. Three positions and two orientations of earphones in the concha were identified for measurement. Based on the responses of all earphones at all orientations and positions, it is concluded that there is a variation in the frequency response and total harmonic distortion. Even though the variation is small in magnitude, its effect on sound perception, sound exposure, and the hearing threshold is phenomenal. Based on the proposition presented in this work and the safe daily sound exposure, it has been determined that the variation in the frequency response affects the perceived loudness of sound and can cause signif-icant differences in the daily sound exposure limit for a human being. © 2020, Canadian Acoustical Association. Green synthesis of iron oxide nanoparticles using Cymbopogon citratus extract and sodium carbonate salt: Nanotoxicological considerations for potential environmental applications

Synthesis of functional and biocompatible nanomaterials, based on the green chemistry paradigm, aims to innovate by using environmentally friendly techniques. Green synthesis using natural extracts instead of chemicals is proving to be an efficient route to prepare metal and metal oxide nanoparticles. In this study, the green synthesis of iron oxide nanoparticles (FeO-NPs) is reported, using a Cymbopogon citratus (C. citratus) extract and sodium carbonate as the reducing and pH stabilizer agents, respectively. FeO-NPs are extensively studied and applied due to the exceptional physicochemical properties, outstanding the superparamagnetism, and the large surface area. These properties are corroborated using different characterization techniques, in which a regular crystal structure and the magnetic response are similar compared with FeO-NPs synthesized via the traditional methods. The presence of magnetite and maghemite (Fe₃O₄ and γ-Fe₂O₃) phases are evidenced. A major composition of Fe₃O₄ allows predominant superparamagnetism. However, surface functionalization reduces the spin coordination avoiding a high saturation magnetization. The presence of phytochemical content in the C. citratus allows the reduction of iron(III) to iron(II) using H⁺ radicals produced from hydroxyl and carbonyl groups, and the in-situ functionalization using these groups. Additionally, the biocompatibility of the FeO-NPs is evaluated performing a nanotoxicological assessment, in which Caenorhabditis elegans nematodes are used as the biological model. The presence of organic molecules on FeO-NPs promotes no toxicity and low effects on the locomotion, growth, and reproduction, suggesting a low risk using these functional nanoparticles for environmental applications, and outstanding the synthesis route with a green approach. © 2020 Elsevier B.V.

Lakes are important natural resources and carbon gas emitters and are undergoing rapid changes worldwide in response to climate change and human activities. A detailed global characterization of lakes and their long-term dynamics does not exist, which is however crucial for evaluating the associated impacts on water availability and carbon emissions. Here, we map 3.4 million lakes on a global scale, including their explicit maximum extents and probability-weighted area changes over the past four decades. From the beginning period (1984–1999) to the end (2010–2019), the lake area increased across all six continents analyzed, with a net change of +46,278 km2, and 56% of the expansion was attributed to reservoirs. Interestingly, although small lakes (<1 km2) accounted for just 15% of the global lake area, they dominated the variability in total lake size in half of the global inland lake regions. The identified lake area increase over time led to higher lacustrine carbon emissions, mostly attributed to small lakes. Our findings illustrate the emerging roles of small lakes in regulating not only local inland water variability, but also the global trends of surface water extent and carbon *** are essential components of the hydrological and biogeochemical cycles. Here, Pi et al develop a global lake dataset called GLAKES via high-resolution satellite images and deep learning to examine global lake changes over four decades.
