Unstructured networks are characterized by constrained resources and require protocols that efficiently utilize bandwidth and battery power. Probabilistic flooding, allows nodes to rebroadcast RREQ packets with some probability p, thus reducing the overhead. The key issue in of this algorithm consists of determining p. The techniques proposed so far either use a fixed p determined by a priori considerations, or a p variable from one node to the other - set, for instance based on node degree or distance between source and destination - or even a dynamic p based on the number of redundant messages received by the nodes. In order to make the computation of forwarding probability p works optimally regardless of changing of topology, we propose to set p based on the node role within the message dissemination process. Specifically, we propose to identify such role based on the nodes' clustering coefficients (the lower the coefficient, the higher the forwarding probability). The performance of the algorithm is evaluated in terms of routing overhead, packet delivery ratio, and end-to-end delay. The algorithm pays a price in terms of computation time for discovering the clustering coefficient, however reduces unnecessary and redundant control messages and achieves a significant improvements in both dense and sparse networks in terms of packet delivery ratio. We compare by simulation the performance of this algorithm with the one of the most representative competing algorithms.

Festuca grass, a multipurpose and vital resource, is experiencing crises of sustainability and degradation due to increased demand and mismanagement. Through a survey research approach, this study aimed to develop sustainable management and utilization strategies for Festuca grass. We employed purposive and random sampling techniques for data collection, focusing on the Festuca grass potential in Borena-Sayint Worehimenu National Park. Interviews, key informant surveys, focus group discussions, and field observations were also conducted. We employed quantitative and qualitative data analysis techniques to ensure a comprehensive approach to deriving insights from the collected data. The findings indicate that Festuca grass has a lifespan of two to four years and fully matures within two years. Products derived from Festuca grass vary according to the maturity level. The results also highlight the demand for Festuca grass and the potential availability of market demand. Harvesting frequency, inappropriate management practices, biased resource sharing, and unauthorized exploitation are basic challenges related to grass resource sustainability. The establishment of certified user groups, domestication of private stocks, revision of resource-sharing protocols, and periodic monitoring are among the possible potential strategic utilization options identified by user groups. A modified strategic framework for the sustainable management and utilization of Festuca grass was developed. This framework outlines four dominant management clusters that are interconnected with each other. Sustainable management of Festuca grass contributes to both environmental conservation and community wellbeing. It advocates for inclusive, community-based approaches that balance ecological preservation with socioeconomic needs. Creation of the Galaxy model describing formation and evolution of binary stars requires generating and testing hypotheses related to the process of formation of binary stars and distributions of their characteristics. A set of hypotheses can be generated on the basis of a number of publications that suggested the formation of binary systems. We describe the project aimed at finding initial distributions of binary stars over masses of components, mass ratios of them, semi-major axes and eccentricities of orbit, and also pairing scenarios by means of Monte-Carlo modeling of the sample of visual binaries of luminosity class V with a set of additional restrictions, so it can be considered as free of observational incompleteness effects. We present results which allow rejecting some estimated initial distributions of visual binary star parameters. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Soil fertility status of cassava fields treated by integrated application of manure and NPK fertilizer in Zambia

Background: Cassava is a heavy feeder crop that can cause serious depletion to soil nutrient stocks. This research aimed to explore soil fertility status and nutrient supply capacity at different growth stages of cassava fields under combined application of organic manure and NPK fertilizers in two agroecologies of Zambia. Topsoil (0–20 cm) samples were collected from cassava fields treated with factorial combination of four levels of chicken manure (0, 1.4, 2.8, and 4.2 ton ha−1) and four levels of NPK (control, 50N-11P-41.5K, 100N-22P-83K, and 150N-33P-124.5P). The soils were sampled under the cassava canopy to determine soil pH, available phosphorus (AP), total nitrogen (TN), organic carbon (OC), cation exchange capacity (CEC), exchangeable bases and micronutrients (Fe, Cu, Mn, and Zn). The samples were collected before planting andafter establishment at 4, 8, and 12 months after planting (MAP). Results: Manure application significantly (p −1 in the control to 3.54 mg kg−1 for the highest level of manure at harvest. The interaction between manure and NPK significantly affected Fe and Mn content in the soil. Conclusion: The results revealed that sole chicken manure application or its combination with mineral fertilizer improves soil nutrient status of cassava fields in Zambian condition. © The Author(s) 2019.

The impact of CMEs on the critical frequency of F2-layer ionosphere (foF2)

The ionospheric critical frequency (foF2) from ionosonde measurements at geographic high, middle, and low latitudes are analyzed with the occurrence of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) in long term variability of the solar cycles. We observed trends of monthly maximum foF2 values and monthly averaged values of CME parameters such as speed, angular width, mass, and kinetic energy with respect to time. The impact of CMEs on foF2 is very high at high latitudes and low at low latitudes. The time series for monthly maximum foF2 and monthly-averaged CME speed are moderately correlated at high and middle latitudes. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Approximation of common solutions for a fixed point problem of asymptotically nonexpansive mapping and a generalized equilibrium problem in Hilbert space

In this paper, we introduce an iterative algorithm to approximate a common solution of a generalized equilibrium problem and a fixed point problem for an asymptotically nonexpansive mapping in a real Hilbert space. We prove that the sequences generated by the iterative algorithm converge strongly to a common solution of the generalized equilibrium problem and the fixed point problem for an asymptotically nonexpansive mapping. The results presented in this paper extend and generalize many previously known results in this research area. Some applications of main results are also provided.

Background: Diarrhea is a major contributor to mortality in sub-Saharan Africa, where access to improved sanitation and clean water is limited. Identifying factors associated with diarrhea across geographical regions and age groups can inform resource allocation toward water infrastructure, healthcare, and disease mitigation. The objective of this study was to identify environmental risk factors associated with diarrhea in the general population across multiple communities in Ethiopia. Methods: A prospective cross-sectional study was conducted in three regions in Ethiopia from October 2021-October 2022. REDCAP mobile app was used to collect data during face-to-face interviews using a structured, pretested questionnaire. Descriptive statistics characterized household environmental exposures. Univariate and multivariable logistic regression were used to identify factors associated with diarrhea. Results: A total of 2,436 households participated in the study. Of these, 10.3% of households reported at least one case of diarrhea during the previous four weeks. Household animal ownership varied by site, with addis ababa reporting the lowest animal ownership and Harar reporting the highest ownership. Across all sites, pit latrines without covers were the most common sanitation facility. Water piped to yard was the most frequent source of drinking water and most households did not use treated water (boiled/filtered) when handling food. No environmental factors were associated with diarrhea in addis ababa. In Gondar, drinking water from unprotected wells was associated with increased odds of diarrhea [COR:4.81(95%CI:2.03,11.43)]. Dry season was associated with decreased odds of diarrhea compared to short [COR:0.42(95%CI:0.24,0.75)] and long rains seasons [COR:0.55(95%CI: 0.34,0.88)]. In Harar, drinking water from communal taps was associated with increased odds of diarrhea [COR:2.02(95%CI:1.32,3.09)]. Conclusion: Multiple environmental factors for diarrhea were identified. G
