Given their flexibility and encouraging performance, deep-learning models are becoming standard for motion prediction in autonomous driving. However, with great flexibility comes a lack of interpretability and possible violations of physical constraints. Accompanying these data-driven methods with differentially-constrained motion models to provide physically feasible trajectories is a promising future direction. The foundation for this work is a previously introduced graph-neural-network-based model, MTP-GO. The neural network learns to compute the inputs to an underlying motion model to provide physically feasible trajectories. This research investigates the performance of various motion models in combination with numerical solvers for the prediction task. The study shows that simpler models, such as low-order integrator models, are preferred over more complex, e.g., kinematic models, to achieve accurate predictions. Further, the numerical solver can have a substantial impact on performance, advising against commonly used first-order methods like Euler forward. Instead, a second-order method like Heun’s can greatly improve predictions.

Power electronic switching devices and pulse width modulation (PWM) not only improves the performance of motor drive systems, but also brings about common-mode voltage (CMV) issues, that challenging the normal operation of the system. This article proposes a zero common-mode voltage modulation strategy based on unified voltage modulation for a 60° Y-connected six-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor system driven by a dual three-phase inverter. The theoretical basis and zero common-mode implementation scheme of unified modulation are analyzed, and the effectiveness of the proposed zero common-mode voltage modulation strategy is finally verified through simulation.

Smart spaces are a rapidly emerging concept in technology. They result from the convergence of various novel technologies, such as the Internet of Things, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, which allow for greater levels of automation and control within physical environments. The devices which are connected to the IoT network are equipped with sensors to acquire and exchange data. As a result, the IoT has transformed how we live, work, and play. However, the deployment in smart spaces is not always the best due to the issues arising from network node positioning. Therefore, we are investigating solutions to this problem with a novel approach which utilises Voronoi diagrams in conjunction with the algorithmic genetic technique. First, the initial positions of the IoT nodes will be determined by simulating a homogeneous Poisson point process in the smart space environment. Then, after dividing the area into the Voronoi cells, the genetic algorithm will optimise the position towards achieving full network coverage within the smart space. Experimental results prove the 100% network coverage within the specified area. © 2023 IEEE.

The quotient of two multivariate Gaussian densities can be written as an unnormalized Gaussian density, which has been applied in some recently developed multiple-model fixed-interval smoothing algorithms. However, this expression is invalid if instead of being positive definite, the covariance of the unnormalized Gaussian density is indefinite (i.e., it has both positive and negative eigenvalues) or undefined (i.e., computing it requires inverting a singular matrix). This paper considers approximating the quotient of two Gaussian densities in this case using two different approaches to mitigate the caused numerical problems. The first approach directly replaces the indefinite covariance of the unnormalized Gaussian density with a positive definite matrix nearest to it. The second approach computes the approximation through solving, using the natural gradient, an optimization problem with a Kullback-Leibler divergence-based cost function. This paper illustrates the application of the theoretical results by incorporating them into an existing smoothing method for jump Markov systems and utilizing the obtained smoothers to track a maneuvering target. © 2023 International Society of Information Fusion.

The Traditional Chinese Medicine Health Status Identification plays an important role in TCM diagnosis and prescription recommendation. In this paper, we propose a method of Status Identification via Graph Attention Network, named SIGAT, which captures the complex medical correlation in the symptom-syndrome graph. More specifically, we construct a symptom-syndrome graph in that symptoms are taken as nodes and the edges are connected by syndromes. And we realize automatic induction of symptom to state element classification by using the attention mechanism and perceptron classifier. Finally, we conduct experiments by using hamming loss, coverage, 0/1 error, ranking loss, average precision, macro-F1 score, and micro-F1 score as evaluation metrics. The results demonstrate that the SIGAT model outperforms comparison algorithms on Traditional Chinese Medicine Prescription Dictionary dataset. The case study results suggest that the proposed method is a valuable way to identify the state element. The application of the graph attention network classification algorithm in TCM health status identification is of high precision and methodological feasibility. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Working in multi-talker mode is viable under certain conditions, such as the fusion of audio and video stimuli along with smart adaptive beamforming of received audio signals. In this article, the authors verify part of the researched novel framework, which focuses on adapting to dynamic interlocutor’s location changes in the engagement zone of humanoid robots during the multi-talker conversation. After evaluating the framework, the authors confirm the necessity of a complementary and independent method of increasing the interlocutor’s signal isolation accuracy. It is necessary when video analysis performance plummets. The authors described the leading cause as insufficient performance during dynamic conversations. The video analysis cannot derive a new configuration when the interlocutor’s speech apparatus moves beyond the expected margin and the video frame rate drops.

This work presents the design, construction, and validation of a chamber for magnetic field attenuation. Needs of magnetic background controlling during experiments focused on behavior of biological samples exposed to various levels of the low frequency time-varying magnetic field set the motivation for this work. The solution is proposed with regard to the correct cultivation conditions of microbiological samples. The chosen methodology is established on the means of numerical modeling and simulations, as well as 3D printing techniques. The design process incorporates computer-aided design (CAD) software for the chamber proposal, subsequent printing via a 3D printer, followed by the construction of an attenuating chamber using mu-metal foil. The validation process involves measurements of magnetic flux density within the chamber, and comparison thereof with numerical simulations performed via CST Design Studio. All the solution steps resulted in a valid and effective magnetic field attenuation chamber, suitable for use in laboratory conditions.

This paper discusses challenges, experiences and lessons learned so far while transforming a masonry build system based mostly on manual labour into a robot automated build system. Our motivation for selection of this masonry process is to try out how robot automation could impact the architects in their design work by providing a tool to directly manipulate wall expression down to individual brick level. Such manipulation is often much too costly for manual labour today. Moreover, masonry is a challenging application to automate. Understanding the manual processes involved and transforming them into automation equivalents faces several challenges;among them handling and distribution of the different materials involved, selection of tooling, sensing for handling of variation and digital tooling for the programming of the process. A novel parallel-kinematic manipulator (PKM) with computerized numerical control (CNC) is used as target for experiments, because the performance properties in stiffness, workspace and accuracy will allow us to extend work into further construction processes involving heavy and dirty manual labour. © 2022 International Association on Automation and Robotics in Construction.

SIMPLEX: A LEXICAL TEXT SIMPLIFICATION ARCHITECTURE

Text simplification (TS) is the process of generating easy-to-understand sentences from a given sentence or piece of text. The aim of TS is to reduce both the lexical (which refers to vocabulary complexity and meaning) and syntactic (which refers to the sentence structure) complexity of a given text or sentence without the loss of meaning or nuance. In this paper, we present SIMPLEX, a novel simplification architecture for generating simplified English sentences. To generate a simplified sentence, the proposed architecture uses either word embeddings (i.e., Word2Vec) and perplexity, or sentence transformers (i.e., BERT, RoBERTa, and GPT2) and cosine similarity. The solution is incorporated into a user-friendly and simple-to-use software. We evaluate our system using two metrics, i.e., SARI, and Perplexity Decrease. Experimentally, we observe that the transformer models outperform the other models in terms of the SARI score. However, in terms of Perplexity, the Word-Embeddings-based models achieve the biggest decrease. Thus, the main contributions of this paper are: (1) We propose a new Word Embedding and Transformer based algorithm for text simplification;(2) We design SIMPLEX - a modular novel text simplification system - that can provide a baseline for further research;and (3) We perform an in-depth analysis of our solution and compare our results with two state-of-the-art models, i.e., LightLS [19] and NTS-w2v [44].
