Most of iterative learning control (ILC) methods requires that the relative degree of the plant is less than 2 for a linear system or the plant is passive for a non-linear system. A new model reference parametric adaptive iterative learning control using the command generator tracker (CGT) theory is proposed in this paper. The method can be applied to control a plant with a higher relative degree and it only requires to iteratively adjust n m + 2 parameters for an SISO plant. Therefore, the ILC control system is very simple. The proposed method is in the spirit of simple adaptive control which has received intensive researches during past two decades. Simulation results show the effectiveness and usefulness of the proposed method.

The nonlinear L/sub 2/ anti-windup framework introduced by Teel and Kapoor (1997) reduces the anti-windup synthesis problem to a state feedback synthesis problem for linear systems with input saturation and input matched L/sub 2/ disturbances. In this paper, such a state feedback is synthesized using receding horizon optimal control techniques, and its equivalent piecewise affine closed-form is computed using the techniques of Bemporad et al. (2002). The properties of the resulting anti-windup compensation scheme are analyzed in the paper, and its performance is investigated through a simulation example.

In conventional H/sub /spl infin// optimal output feedback control design, the order of the controller is higher than that of the plant. Thus it is not easy to implement H/sub /spl infin// optimal control in real world engineering problems. The paper tries to bridge the gap between the theoretical H/sub /spl infin// control and practical applications. It proposes a simple genetic algorithm (GA), blended with multi objective characteristics, for the design of a structure specified H/sub /spl infin// sub-optimal controller. Therefore, two examples involving a SISO phase-locked motor speed system with a lead/lag type controller and a MIMO super maneuverable F18/HARV fighter aircraft with a PI-type controller are given to illustrate the applicability of the design. Also in accordance with these examples a comparison study with an existing GA procedure, outlines the effectiveness of the proposed evolutionary scheme.

This paper presents the software package SISCON, dedicated to the evaluation of optimal decisions for large scale systems. SISCON firstly evaluates mathematical models developed out of experimental data using LS methods for linear and nonlinear systems and after that computes the optimal decision problems. The large scale systems have generally a complex structure and global approach computation cannot be carried out. The authors propose a descentralised decision structure having a well-defined distribution of supervisory functions. After decomposition of large - scale problems is carried out, subproblems are solved using standard optimization techniques. This paper describes an automatic quality control system that supervises through three CCD cameras the assembly of automobile airbag sensors. The main characteristics that can be detected are position, angle and geometric parameters of epoxy resin to fix the accelerator sensor. A method for robot navigation is presented. It is based on the detection of the main local reflection symmetry axes in images where straight lines are prevailing such as structured environments where robots are moving. The objective is to maintain the right orientation during navigation and to detect and correct any change in this orientation comparing continuously the symmetry axes between images. The algorithm measures the positions and the lengths of these local symmetry axes and their relative importance by means of an accumulation map of each contributing segment. A definition of symmetry between two segments that allows us to calculate a local symmetry axis between them is also given.

The paper presents some considerations about the design, refinement and accuracy of digital PID controllers. Starting from the robust-optimal design based on the sensitivity function of a continuous time PID controller, a discrete time equivalent is built. Several methods of quantization are introduced which improve the performances compared to the standard digital PID algorithm. Computational aspects and the efficiency of choosing the specific hardware support for PID algorithm implementation is discussed. Simulated results known that the achieved performances in closed loop implementation depend on the quality of design, but also of the rafinament and accuraccy of computed PID algorithm.
