Machine learning techniques, including Gaussian processes (GPs), are expected to play a significant role in meeting speed, accuracy, and functionality requirements in future data-intensive mechatronic systems. This paper aims to reveal the potential of GPs for motion control applications. Successful applications of GPs for feedforward and learning control, including the identification and learning for noncausal feedforward, position-dependent snap feedforward, nonlinear feedforward, and GP-based spatial repetitive control, are outlined. Experimental results on various systems, including a desktop printer, wirebonder, and substrate carrier, confirmed that data-based learning using GPs can significantly improve the accuracy of mechatronic systems.

COVID-19 has lately infected a big number of people worldwide. Medical service frameworks are strained as a result of the infection. The emergency unit, which is part of the medical services area, has experienced several challenges as a result of the low data quality offered by existing ICU clinical equipment. The Internet of Things has enhanced the capability for essential information mobility in medical services in the twenty-first century. Nonetheless, many of today's ideal models use IoT innovation to assess patients' well-being. As a result, executives lack understanding regarding the most effective method to apply such innovation to ICU clinical equipment. The IoT Based Paradigm for Medical Equipment Management Systems, a breakthrough IoT-based paradigm for successfully administering clinical hardware in ICUs, is introduced in this study. During the COVID-19 episode, IoT technology is used to boost the data stream between clinical hardware, executive frameworks, and ICUs, enabling the maximum level of openness and reasonableness in clinical equipment redistribution. IoT MEMS conceptual and functional features were painstakingly drawn. Using IoT MEMS expands the capacity and limits of emergency clinics, effectively easing COVID-19. It will also have a substantial impact on the nature of the data and will improve the partners' trust and transparency.

Position-Dependent Snap Feedforward: A Gaussian Process Framework

Mechatronic systems have increasingly high performance requirements for motion control. The low-frequency contribution of the flexible dynamics, i.e. the compliance, should be compensated for by means of snap feedforward to achieve high accuracy. Position-dependent compliance, which often occurs in motion systems, requires the snap feedforward parameter to be modeled as a function of position. Position-dependent compliance is compensated for by using a Gaussian process to model the snap feedforward parameter as a continuous function of position. A simulation of a flexible beam shows that a significant performance increase is achieved when using the Gaussian process snap feedforward parameter to compensate for position-dependent compliance. © 2022, CC BY.

Advanced feedforward control methods enable mechatronic systems to perform varying motion tasks with extreme accuracy and throughput. The aim of this paper is to develop a data-driven feedforward controller that addresses input nonlinearities, which are common in typical applications such as semiconductor back-end equipment. The developed method consists of parametric inverse-model feedforward that is optimized for tracking error reduction by exploiting ideas from iterative learning control. Results on a simulated set-up indicate improved performance over existing identification methods for systems with nonlinearities at the input. © 2022, CC BY-NC-ND.

This paper presents a supervised machine learning (ML)-based approach to detect power system transmission lines faults. The measured signals at one end of the protected line were transformed into a time-frequency domain using spectrograms. Statistical features were extracted from spectrograms. Three datasets were considered to find the best classification models: the original dataset that was unbalanced with a complete set of features, a balanced dataset with a complete set of features, and a balanced dataset with a reduced number of features. Synthetic minority class oversampling technique (SMOTE) was used to balance the data to prevent biases toward the majority class. Four feature selection algorithms were applied to reduce the number of features, namely, neighborhood component analysis (NCA), minimum redundancy maximum relevance (mRMR), fit ensemble of learners, and forward sequential feature selection. Decision trees (DT), support vector machines (SVM), k-nearest neighbors (k-NN), ensemble trees classifiers were used to classify faults and non-fault events. The results showed that ensemble bagged trees of the balanced dataset and complete set of features achieved the maximum accuracy and the minimum false-negative rate. The proposed feature selection algorithms showed no improvement in the performance of the classifiers. The best classifier was then tested using an unseen scenario and showed accurate detection of the fault events for the system without inverter-based generators (IBGs). The classifier, however, was not able to detect faults during power swing after integrating IBGs such as PV plant and type-3 Wind farm behind the relay point in the protected line.

Object Detection at Sea Using Ensemble Methods Across Spectral Ranges

Having the option of a temporally unmanned bridge when conditions allow, while maintaining or even enhancing navigational safety, is a long term aim in the maritime industry. Such a system requires excellent perception of the environment using an array of sensors. This paper investigates performance of object detection at sea using electro-optical sensors in relevant spectral ranges and discusses how missed detection risk is minimised for objects within navigation range. Using a combination of cameras in visible, near- and far infrared ranges, convolutional neural networks are employed for object detection. Ensemble techniques are suggested to minimise the amount of missed detections and it is shown how optimisation of confidence thresholds can be used to increase performance. The results are based on image data from vessels in near-coast operation in Danish waters.

Paper Defects Classification Based on VGG16 and Transfer Learning

There are some problems in traditional paper defects classification, such as the poor generalization performance, less types of recognition, and insufficient recognition accuracy. The deep learning method provides a new scheme for paper defects classification. However, due to the small sample size of paper defect images set, the over fitting phenomenon is easy to appear in the training process. Aiming this problem, a transfer learning method based on convolutional neural network model is ***, freezing the first seven construction layers of VGG16 network which has been trained by ImageNet, and fine tune the rest convolution layers with the paper defect images set to complete the feature extraction;Secondly, the full connection layers for classification are improved to meet the needs of paper defects classification;Finally, transfer learning strategy is adopted in the training process to improve the efficiency. The experimental results demonstrate that the paper defects classification proposed in our approach can improve the efficiency and accuracy of paper defects recognition. A wheelchair is a specialized form of Personal Mobility Vehicle (PMV) designed to help people with disabilities move safely to their desired locations. Unlike conventional PMVs, wheelchairs for people with disabilities are challenging to manually control in environments with heavy traffic. This study focuses on designing and feasibility testing of control systems for PMVs to meet safety and efficiency standards, even in complex environments. First, a control structure model for PMVs is proposed. This is followed by the application of a combination of First In First Out (FIFO) and Dijkstra traffic control methods to determine effective trajectories for PMVs. The proposed control system is then tested on the campus of the University of Transport and Communications. Simulation results show that when comparing the travel time of 10 PMVs, the order execution time for each PMV remains stable (within 10%) for up to 20 PMVs. However, when the number of PMVs increases to 25, 30, 35, and 40 vehicles, the order execution time increases by 35%, 55%, 103%, and 119%, respectively. These results demonstrate that the system can control a large number of PMVs, ensuring safety, flexibility, and efficiency. © 2024 Budapest University of Technology and Economics. Privacy-Preserving and Verifiable Electronic Voting Scheme Based on Smart Contract of Blockchain

In this study, a privacy-preserving and verifiable electronic voting scheme is proposed based on a smart contract that is cost-effective and practical. The scheme uses electronic ballot as token for voting, and the smart contract verifies accuracy of the ballot. First, an agent generates electronic ballot via ElGamal encryption scheme, which is verified by the smart contract. The agent then generates decryption parameters based on the electronic ballot. Second, the agent assigns the electronic ballot to a voter and shares the decryption parameters to all voters with Shamir secret sharing scheme. Third, a voter generates and submits a vote that is the electronic ballot and a public parameter to the smart contract. Finally, the voter computes decryption data with the sum of decryption parameters restored by smart contract using shares summary submitted from voters. The voter then computes voting result via the homomorphic method with the decryption data. Web inspection algorithm for low contrast paper defects based on artificial bee colony optimization

Traditional paper defect detection algorithms have the problems of low detection rate and poor anti-interference ability for low contrast paper defects such as cracks and folds. Considering these problems, an algorithm of low contrast paper defects based on artificial bee colony optimization was presented. Firstly, the Gabor filter was used to eliminate the texture elements and enhance the contrast. Then, the optimal segmentation threshold of 2-D OSTU was obtained by taking the trace of the dispersion matrix of the filtered paper disease image as the objective function of the artificial swarm optimization. Finally, according to the best segmentation threshold, the paper image was detected by 2-D OSTU method. The simulation results indicated that this algorithm has the advantages of high detection rate, accurate positioning and good anti-disturbance performance for low contrast paper defects. © 2020 Korean Technical Assoc. of the Pulp and Paper Industry.
