Zero Assignment Problem in RLC Networks

The paper deals with the problem of zero assignment in RLC networks by selection of appropriate values for the non- dynamical elements, the resistors. For a certain family of network redesign problems by the additive perturbations may be described as diagonal perturbations and such modifications are considered here. This problem belongs to the family of DAP problems (Determinantal Assignment Problem) and has common features with the pole assignment problem by decentralized output feedback and the zero assignment problem via structured additive perturbations. We demonstrate that the sufficient condition for generic zero assignment by selecting the resistors holds true. This condition is related to the rank of the differential of the related map and holds true generically when the degrees of freedom of the matrix of resistors exceeds the number of frequencies to be assigned (n > p + q). Using this result, we show through a generic example that the sufficient condition for the general zero assignment problems in RLC networks is satisfied and thus, zero assignment can be achieved via resistor determination. © 2015

The last two decades has seen quantum thermodynamics become a well established field of research in its own right. In that time, it has demonstrated a remarkably broad applicability, ranging from providing foundational advances in the understanding of how thermodynamic principles apply at the nano-scale and in the presence of quantum coherence, to providing a guiding framework for the development of efficient quantum devices. Exquisite levels of control have allowed state-of-the-art experimental platforms to explore energetics and thermodynamics at the smallest scales which has in turn helped to drive theoretical advances. This Roadmap provides an overview of the recent developments across many of the field’s sub-disciplines, assessing the key challenges and future prospects, providing a guide for its near term progress. Saving energy without causing discomfort and without demanding human intervention is the need of the day. It is important to develop sensor systems which not only satisfy user requirements, but also take energy consumption into consideration. In this demo, we present the sensing subsystems of a Smart Academic Environment, based upon the core concept of 'Observability' [1] which -- while satisfying user needs -- helps to reduce the number of sensors required.

The development of IT (Information Technology) has made access to control systems easier. However, because such advancement of control systems gave rise to many security vulnerabilities, the threat of cyber-attack is increasing as well. In order to respond these threats, we discusses the mechanism for protecting ICS (Industrial control System) network. Most of all, since availability is the most critical factor in a control system, independent network security technology is required. In this viewpoint, this paper presents our industrial firewall system, named the IndusCAP-Gate (Industrial Cyber Attack Prevention-Gate) system, that fundamentally prevents unauthorized access to a control system. Our system applies access control filters of various levels. Most of all, the proposed system has an abnormal traffic filtering mechanism about Modbus and DNP3 protocol of the most widely used protocols in ICS network. Therefore, it facilitates the provision of security policy specific to each zone of the control system intranet.

Background: Hearing loss affects access to spoken language, which can affect cognition and development, and can negatively affect social wellbeing. We present updated estimates from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study on the prevalence of hearing loss in 2019, as well as the condition's associated disability. Methods: We did systematic reviews of population-representative surveys on hearing loss prevalence from 1990 to 2019. We fitted nested meta-regression models for severity-specific prevalence, accounting for hearing aid coverage, cause, and the presence of tinnitus. We also forecasted the prevalence of hearing loss until 2050. Findings: An estimated 1·57 billion (95% uncertainty interval 1·51–1·64) people globally had hearing loss in 2019, accounting for one in five people (20·3% [19·5–21·1]). Of these, 403·3 million (357·3–449·5) people had hearing loss that was moderate or higher in severity after adjusting for hearing aid use, and 430·4 million (381·7–479·6) without adjustment. The largest number of people with moderate-to-complete hearing loss resided in the Western Pacific region (127·1 million people [112·3–142·6]). Of all people with a hearing impairment, 62·1% (60·2–63·9) were older than 50 years. The Healthcare Access and Quality (HAQ) Index explained 65·8% of the variation in national age-standardised rates of years lived with disability, because countries with a low HAQ Index had higher rates of years lived with disability. By 2050, a projected 2·45 billion (2·35–2·56) people will have hearing loss, a 56·1% (47·3–65·2) increase from 2019, despite stable age-standardised prevalence. Interpretation: As populations age, the number of people with hearing loss will increase. Interventions such as childhood screening, hearing aids, effective management of otitis media and meningitis, and cochlear implants have the potential to ameliorate this burden. KAGRA is a newly built gravitational wave observatory, a laser interferometer with a 3 km arm length, located in Kamioka, Gifu prefecture, Japan. In this article, we describe the KAGRA data management system, i.e., recording of data, transfer from the KAGRA experiment site to computing resources, as well as data distribution to tier sites, including international sites in Taiwan and Korea. The amount of KAGRA data exceeded 1.0 PiB and increased by about 1.5 TB per day during operation in 2020. Our system has succeeded in data management, and has achieved performance that can withstand observations after 2023, that is, a transfer rate of 20 MB s-1or more and file storage of sufficient capacity for petabyte class. We also discuss the sharing of data between the global gravitational-wave detector network with other experiments, namely LIGO and Virgo. The latency, which consists of calculation of calibrated strain data and transfer time within the global network, is very important from the view of multi-messenger astronomy using gravitational waves. Real-time calbrated data delivered from the KAGRA detector site and other detectors to our computing system arrive with about 4–15 seconds of latency. These latencies are sufficiently short compared to the time taken for gravitational wave event search computations. We also established a high-latency exchange of offline calibrated data that was aggregated with a better accuracy compared with real-time data.

Gujarati is one of the ancient Indian languages spoken widely by the people of Gujarat state. This paper is concerned with the recognition of handwritten Gujarati numerals. For recognition of Gujarati numerals zoning based Feature extraction method is used. Numeral image is divided in 16×16, 8×8, 4×4 and 2×2 Zones. After feature extraction through the zoning method, Naive Bayes classifier and multilayer feed forward neural network classifier are implemented for the classification of numerals. For the database generation, 14,000 samples of each numeral are used. The overall recognition rates of this method used for recognition of Gujarati numeral using 16×16, 8×8, 4×4 and 2×2 zoning with neural network are 93.03%, 95.92%, 91.89% and 61.78% and with Naive Bayes classifier are 75%, 85.60%, 81% and 53.75% respectively.

Active Fault Diagnosis in Sampled-data Systems

The focus in this paper is on active fault diagnosis (AFD) in closed-loop sampleddata systems. Applying the same AFD architecture as for continuous-time systems does not directly result in the same set of closed-loop matrix transfer functions. For continuous-time systems, the LFT (linear fractional transformation) structure in the connection between the parametric faults and the matrix transfer function (also known as the fault signature matrix) applied for AFD is not directly preserved for sampled-data system. As a consequence of this, the AFD methods cannot directly be applied for sampled-data systems. Two methods are considered in this paper to handle the fault signature matrix for sampled-data systems such that standard AFD methods can be applied. The first method is based on a discretization of the system such that the LFT structure is preserved resulting in the same LFT structure in the fault signature matrix as obtained for continuous-time systems. The other method is an approximation method, where the same structure is obtained for small parametric faults. © 2015

During April 7–21 2020, KAGRA conducted its first scientific observation in conjunction with the GEO600 detector. The dominant noise sources during this run were found to be suspension control noise in the low-frequency range and acoustic noise in the mid-frequency range. In this study, we show that their contributions in the observational data can be reduced by a signal processing method called independent component analysis (ICA). The model of ICA is extended from that studied in the initial KAGRA data analysis to account for frequency dependence, while the linearity and stationarity of the coupling between the interferometer and the noise sources are still assumed. We identify optimal witness sensors in the application of ICA, leading to successful mitigation of these two dominant contributions. We also analyze the stability of the transfer functions for the entire two weeks of data to investigate the applicability of the proposed subtraction method in gravitational wave searches.
