High temporal resolution x-ray streak camera studies of micropinch formation in Cu hybrid x pinches reveal key plasma conditions. Analysis of Ne-like Cu lines indicate an average electron temperature of about 200 eV and 4.5×1028m−3 electron density. The spectra suggest that the electron temperature jumps to about 1 keV, inferred from the continuum and the postcontinuum line emission that includes Li-like Cu lines. There is no sign of a rapid temperature change or a substantial surge in radiation emission during the 200 ps precontinuum x-ray burst, suggesting that the radiative collapse process does not play a major role in micropinch formation. Two-dimensional extended Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations, coupled to a collisional-radiative spectral analysis code, suggest the significance of the rapid radial implosion of high-temperature, low-density plasma, the axial outflow, and the dynamic plasma pressure in micropinch formation.

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the learning and teaching of various laboratory skills encountered numerous challenges. In electricalengineering, the field of telecommunication involving fields and waves requires the creation of different devices and their subsequent measurement in laboratory settings. In the undergraduate curriculum of this field, the antenna and microwave laboratories play a crucial role in acquainting students with tangible devices, their operational mechanisms, measurement specifications, and the utilization of measurement equipment. To facilitate the comprehension of courses related to microwave devices and antenna design, a compilation of 3D designs was devised to simulate performance alongside theoretical concepts. This extensive collection includes components like transmission lines, waveguides, couplers, filters, circulators, antennas, and more. It serves as a valuable resource for traditional in-person theory classes and provides a foundation for research projects undertaken by graduate students. It can be used to generate a database for use in designs with the help of machine learning, too. Subsequently, several pieces of educational hardware were designed and constructed to address emerging topics, including automotive radar, software-defined radio, and spread spectrum telecommunications.

Microwave sensors are suitable candidates for point-of-care (POC) devices due to the advantages they offer over other sensing methods. These sensors are low cost, sensitive, small, and reliable. However, the need to use bulky and expensive vector network analyzers limits their application in POC systems. Here we present a simple measuring system to tackle this problem, allowing the integration of microwave sensors with POC testing. The performance of the system is validated by measuring solutions of water-glucose and water-isopropyl alcohol with different concentrations. It is shown that the system can distinguish different solutions by measuring the phase shift and power attenuation in transmission coefficient of a microwave sensor.
