The super edge-magicness of graphs of equal order and size has been shown to be important since such graphs can be used as seeds to answer many questions related to (super) edge-magic labelings and other types of well studied labelings, as for instance harmonious labelings. Also other questions related to the area of combinatorics can be attacked and understood from the point of view of super edge-magic graphs of equal order and size. For instance, the design of Steiner triple systems, the study of the set of dual shuffle primes and the Jacobsthal numbers. In this paper, we study the super edge-magic properties of some types of super edge-magic graphs of equal order and size, with the hope that they can be used later in the study of other related questions. The negative results found in last section are specially interesting since these kind of results are not common in the literature. Furthermore, the few results found in this direction usually meet one of the following reasons: too many vertices compared with the number of edges;too many edges compared with the number of vertices;or parity conditions. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified genetic variants at 34 loci contributing to age-related macular degeneration (AMD). We generated transcriptional profiles of postmortem retinas from 453 controls and cases at distinct stages of AMD and integrated retinal transcriptomes, covering 13,662 protein-coding and 1,462 noncoding genes, with genotypes at more than 9 million common SNPs for expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) analysis of a tissue not included in Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) and other large datasets. Cis-eQTL analysis identified 10,474 genes under genetic regulation, including 4,541 eQTLs detected only in the retina. Integrated analysis of AMD-GWAS with eQTLs ascertained likely target genes at six reported loci. Using transcriptome-wide association analysis (TWAS), we identified three additional genes, RLBP1, HIC1 and PARP12, after Bonferroni correction. Our studies expand the genetic landscape of AMD and establish the Eye Genotype Expression (EyeGEx) database as a resource for post-GWAS interpretation of multifactorial ocular traits.

Statistical Tests of Hypothesis Based Color Image Retrieval

This paper proposes a novel method based on statistical tests of hypotheses, such as F-ratio and Welch’s t-tests. The input query image is examined whether it is a textured or structured. If it is structured, the shapes are segregated into various regions according to its nature;otherwise, it is treated as textured image and considered the entire image as it is for the experiment. The aforesaid tests are applied regions-wise. First, the F-ratio test is applied, if the images pass the test, then it is proceeded to test the spectrum of energy, i.e. means of the two images. If the images pass both tests, then it is concluded that the two images are the same or similar. Otherwise, they differ. Since the proposed system is distribution-based, it is invariant for rotation and scaling. Also, the system facilitates the user to fix the number of images to be retrieved, because the user can fix the level of significance according to their requirements. These are the main advantages of the proposed system.

Offline handwritten pre-segmented character recognition of gurmukhi script

In this paper, we have proposed a feature extraction technique for recognition of segmented handwritten characters of Gurmukhi script. The experiments have been performed with 7000 specimens of segmented offine handwritten Gurmukhi characters collected from 200 different writers. We have considered the set of 35 basic characters of the Gurmukhi script and have proposed the feature extraction technique based on boundary extents of the character image. PCA based feature selection technique has also been implemented in this work to reduce the dimension of data. We have used k-NN, SVM and MLP classiffers. SVM has been used with four different kernels. In this work, we have achieved maximum recognition accuracy of 93.8% for the 35-class problem when SVM with RBF kernel and 5-fold cross validation technique were employed.

Twitter provides a platform for information sharing and diffusion, and has quickly emerged as a mechanism for organizations to engage with their consumers. A driving factor for engagement is providing relevant and timely content to users. We posit that the engagement via tweets offers a good potential to discover user interests and leverage that information to target specific content of interest. To that end, we have developed a framework that analyzes tweets to identify the interests of current followers and leverages topic models to deliver a personalized topic profile for each user. We validated our framework by partnering up with a local media company and analyzing the content gap between them and their followers. We also developed a mobile application that incorporates the proposed framework.

Our research is about the effects of non-photorealistic rendering in the perception of stereoscopic cinema. We conducted a study with 27 participants, using eye-tracker to evaluate ocular behavior during the free viewing of a stereoscopic film. We obtained ocular fixation data that were correlated with visual entropy. Gaze data leads us to believe that facing a highly abstract non-photorealistic scene the gaze seems to react under the effect of a perceptive anxiety. This ocular response seems to spontaneously assign greater sensorimotor resources to the analysis of the character's behavior, transforming his face into the main key to analyse the information and sense of the global scene. This behavior appears to us as an adaptive response to a visual environment endowed with abstraction and cognitive uncertainty. Our results could be useful for conceiving new non-photorealistic rendering tools for 3D films and cinematic virtual reality.

Representing Urban Geometries for Unstructured Mesh Generation

We present a robust and automatic method to generate an idealized surface geometry of a city landscape ready to be meshed for computer simulations. The city geometry is idealized for non viscous flow simulations and targets two main geometrical features: the topography and the city blocks. The procedure is fully automatic and demands no human interaction given the following source data: the city cadastre, a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) of all the target domain, and Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) data of the domain region covered by the cadastre. The geometry representation takes three main steps. First, a 2D mesh of the cadastre is generated, where the elements are marked according to street and block regions. Second, using a DEM of the city landscape the topography surface mesh is generated by finding the best surface mesh in the least-squares sense obtained by deforming the previous 2D mesh. Third, we extrude the block facades and we compute a planar ceiling taking into account all the buildings belonging to that city block. We describe the applicability of the geometry representation by presenting the work-flow required to generate an unstructured mesh valid for non-viscous flow or transport simulations. Finally, we illustrate the main application by obtaining a surface and tetrahedral mesh for the city of Barcelona in Spain.

Chronic Renal Failure (CRF) is one of the major disease which affect the human life. The stages of CRF start with loss of renal functions and gradually it leads to complete failure of all kidney functions. This disease is fatal at its end stage unless a replacement of kidney or a dialysis process which is an artificial filtering mechanism is not done. So an early prediction of disease is very important to save the human life. Machine learning is a part of artificial intelligence that uses a variety of techniques to learn from complex dataset. Machine learning techniques are widely used in medical field for disease prediction and prognosis. The objective of this work is to develop a clinical decision support system using machine learning techniques. In this paper first the classification techniques like neural network based back propagation (BPN), probability based Naive Bayes, LDA classifier, lazy learner K Nearest Neighbor (KNN), tree based decision tree, and Random subspace classification algorithms are analyzed. The accuracy of each algorithm found is 81.5%, 78%, 76%, 90%, 93% and 94% respectively on a dataset collected from UCI repository which contains 25 attributes and 400 instances. From the results obtained, the algorithm which gave better result was used for the developing the Clinical Decision Support System.

Strongly lensed quadruply imaged quasars (quads) are extraordinary objects. They are very rare in the sky - only a few tens are known to date - and yet they provide unique information about a wide range of topics, including the expansion history and the composition of the Universe, the distribution of stars and dark matter in galaxies, the host galaxies of quasars, and the stellar initial mass function. Finding them in astronomical images is a classic "needle in a haystack" problem, as they are outnumbered by other (contaminant) sources by many orders of magnitude. To solve this problem, we develop state-of-the-art deep learning methods and train them on realistic simulated quads based on real images of galaxies taken from the Dark Energy Survey, with realistic source and deflector models, including the chromatic effects of microlensing. The performance of the best methods on a mixture of simulated and real objects is excellent, yielding area under the receiver operating curve in the range 0.86 to 0.89. Recall is close to 100% down to total magnitude i ∼ 21 indicating high completeness, while precision declines from 85% to 70% in the range i ∼ 17 - 21. The methods are extremely fast: training on 2 million samples takes 20 hours on a GPU machine, and 108 multi-band cutouts can be evaluated per GPU-hour. The speed and performance of the method pave the way to apply it to large samples of astronomical sources, bypassing the need for photometric pre-selection that is likely to be a major cause of incompleteness in current samples of known quads. © 2021, CC BY.
