Green stormwater infrastructure (GI) (e.g., rain gardens, bioswales, green roofs, etc.) are decentralized systems that have gained recent attention for their ability to reduce stormwater management problems while significantly benefiting human and ecosystem well-being. Available GI design methodologies lack a participatory framework that considers community-specific social, cultural, economic, and political constraints, critical components for widespread acceptance and effective implementation and maintenance of such systems. A project funded by the U.S. National science Foundation seeks to develop a novel, computational, GI design framework that integrates interactive, neighborhood-scale, collaborative design by multiple stakeholders ("crowd-sourced" design) with multi-scale models of ecosystem and human impacts. The primary research tasks include: (1) creation of integrated models to predict hydrologic, human, and ecosystem impacts of GI designs from site to catchment scales, (2) development of interactive methods for crowd-sourcing model parameterization and GI design, and (3) implementation of modeling and crowd-sourced design methods in a cyberinfrastructure (CI) framework. The models developed in this project will be among the first to integrate criteria for human wellbeing with site-and-watershed-scale hydrologic and ecologic processes. Furthermore, by advancing crowd-sourced interactive optimization and model parameterization, this project can influence other design processes where early, diverse input is important for design acceptance.

Location based services is a class of computing services that uses the consumer's location data in order to personalize and enable features and services. Services include those for mapping and tracking, emergency response and disaster management and location based advertising. Of these services, location based advertising, also knows as hyperlocal marketing, accounts for the largest market share. In this paper we provide a motivating example of a hyperlocal marketing service applicable to connected vehicles and explore communication architectures for enabling such location based services. The specific scenario we consider uses sensors to automatically detect automotive problems in an intelligent vehicle and share the information wirelessly with a hyperlocal marketing server. The server, in turn, gets a dynamically updated list of hyperlocal services from retailers which would be analyzed, filtered and delivered to the consumer wirelessly so that the consumer could avail of a suitable service to address the issue. While considering different architectures we highlight the lack of a suitable standard for vehicle-to-infrastructure communication and suggest that this area needs further study.

This work proposes an efficient scheme for identification of L2 cache module zone (low level cache) for data migration in Chip Multiprocessors (CMPs), during program execution, exploiting the benefits of Non-Uniform Cache Architecture (NUCA). Selection of an exact cache module for migration is always not realizable. A more efficient scheme can be the prediction of cache zone for migration. The proposed scheme is developed around the modelling tool of periodic boundary cellular automata (CA) to satisfy the requirement. The CA employed performs density classification of the instances of data request generated by different processor cores and predicts the best placement for data (up to an acceptable level) in the low level NUCA cache.
