Impacts of volcanic ash on air traffic have been reconsidered in the aftermath of the 2010 eruption of Eyjafjallajökull volcano (Iceland), which caused great impacts to the European air traffic network. We present a GIS-based methodology to estimate the impacts of tephra dispersal from explosive volcanic eruptions aimed at improving air traffic management in case of ash-contaminated airspace. We use the 2010 Eyjafjallajökull eruption as a case study with two main objectives: to introduce the methodology and to perform a posteriori analysis of the 2010 aviation breakdown. Modelling results of atmospheric tephra dispersal over Europe build upon a reanalysis dataset of meteorological and volcanological parameters. Given that there is still no consensus on thresholds of ash concentration that is critical for flight safety, the methodology takes into account several ash concentration values. Results are hourly tables and maps containing information on potentially affected airports and routes at different Flight Levels (FLs). This allows estimating impacts at a high temporal frequency. We also compute daily-accumulated impacts for each FL. We compare our results with the 2010 impacts. Furthermore, advantages and disadvantages of this methodology are discussed and compared with similar existing tools. Finally, we underline possible improvements of the methodology and describe further work.

Routing Optimization in mobile ad hoc networks along with secured transmission is an ever-demanding task. Mobile ad hoc networks are highly dynamic topology natured and hence several routing protocols meet the challenge of link quality, delay and energy conscious routing. This paper proposes a secured link quality, delay and energy conscious routing approach based on ant colony optimization. Based on the estimated link quality, delay and residual energy of the nearby nodes, Adaptive node stability (ANS) mechanism is mathematically modeled to make the routing strategy. SLQDEARP selects the efficient node based on the ANS mechanism and sends the data packets through that node. Ad-hoc security algorithms incorporated for making the transmission more secured. Simulation results show that SLQDEARP increases delay, energy consumption and packet delivery ratio than AODV and DECRP protocol due to security mechanism incorporated.

In this aspect it is imperative to retain the existing human resources in a best possible manner. The key challenges in the area of public health informatics are, the identification of relevant health data sets, its representation and meaningful use of the information for decision making. To make effective use of data represented in Public Health Records, the data needs to be 'seamlessly' shared or be interoperable among health care providers. It is believed that adoption of health care standards will help achieve interoperability. However, analyzing and identifying the standard most suitable for the organization is not a trivial task. The authors propose a simple, informal method to identify the appropriate standard, based on requirements, to achieve interoperability. The method is applied to a real world case study of a Primary Health Care provider in India. A scenario, where an expecting mother needs to be referred to the hospital for a pregnancy related medical condition is considered. The authors model data, analyze and identify standards relevant for interoperable transfer of maternal health information between public health centres and hospitals.

A correlated equilibrium is a fundamental solution concept in game theory that enjoys many desirable mathematical and algorithmic properties: it can achieve more fair and higher payoffs than a Nash equilibrium and it can be efficiently computed for a vast class of games. However, it requires a trusted mediator to assist the players in sampling their moves, which is a major drawback in many practical applications. A computational solution to this problem was proposed by Dodis, Halevi and Rabin [DHR00]. They extended the original game by adding a preamble stage, where the players communicate with each other and then they perform the original game. For this extended game, they show that the players can achieve payoffs at least as high as in any correlated equilibrium, provided that the players are computationally bounded and can communicate before the game. The introduction of cryptography with computational security in game theory is of great interest both from a theoretical and more importantly from a practical point of view. However, the main game-theoretic question remained open: can we achieve any correlated equilibrium for 2- player games without a trusted mediator and also unconditionally? In this paper, we provide a positive answer to this question. We show that if the players can communicate via a quantum channel before the game, then for 2-player games, payoffs at least as high as in any correlated equilibrium can be achieved, without a trusted mediator and unconditionally. This provides another example of a major advantage of quantum information processing: quantum communication enables players to achieve a real correlated equilibrium unconditionally, a task which is impossible in the classical world.
