This paper introduces a new way of interaction in JFCS Software where users can view and navigate easily between different combinations of fuzzy colors and pixels in images. Fuzzy colors allow introducing semantics in the description of color by using linguistic labels, filling the semantic gap between the color representation in computers and the subjective human perception. JFCS (Java Fuzzy Color Space) Software, an open source (GPLv3) software with a user-friendly interface, provides an easy framework to design and automatically obtain customized fuzzy color spaces on the basis of an approach proposed by the authors in previous work. This new functionality in JFCS endows it with a very useful tool to visually analyze correspondences between pixels and fuzzy colors in images. Users can obtain combined mapped images where regions, corresponding to a combination of color concepts, are highlighted. In addition, users can describe and interact, in a simple and visual way, with colors present on a given image in terms of fuzzy colors.

This paper presents a novel system which has been developed to supervise in real time the operation of a Grid-Connected Utility-Scale PV Power Plant in order to ensure a reliable and uninterruptible power supply. The system is composed of a complex acquisition architecture which measures the required information with a high temporal resolution and using a high-precision protocol for synchronizing all the devices, something strictly necessary for accurately establishing a relationship among all events taking place in the plant. Moreover, an advanced system for monitoring and supervising all the distributed devices, as well as for the real-time treatment of all the registered information is presented. This system does not only enable a better control over the performance of all the PV plant's components by detecting any failures or deviations in production, but it also monitors the power quality of the injected signal and its influence on the distribution grid. © 2016 IEEE.

The current upward trend of the residential energy demand and the high penetration of new renewable resources have changed the conception of the electrical grid. The centralized distribution scheme is currently moving forward to a distributed layout where the paradigm of Smart Energy Communities has emerged, meaning a set of households that share a Microgrid, have tied renewable production and can be either connected or disconnected from the main grid. In this context, due to the reduced dispatchability of the renewable generation, the planning of the installed PV power as well as the storage capacity is the cornerstone in order to achieve a high degree of both self-generation and self-consumption. However, the lack of detailed hourly or sub-hourly data makes it difficult. Therefore, this paper aims to present a high-resolution simulation method for evaluating the PV power and storage capacity requirements for a Smart Community based on a stochastic demand model and real PV production data, so the interplay between consumption and generation can be better understood. © 2016 IEEE.

Visual textures in images are usually described by humans using linguistic terms related to their perceptual properties, like "very coarse", "low directional", or "high contrasted". However, the presence of these properties in images is very difficult to characterize due to their imprecision, and, moreover, because their perception may change depending on the user. In this paper, we propose an adaptive fuzzy approach for texture modelling, that allows to describe it in natural language, and takes into account the subjectivity of the human perception. For this purpose, a methodology in two phases has been proposed. First, non-adaptive fuzzy partitions, that represent the average human perception about the presence of the texture properties, are obtained. For this modelling, a perception-based fuzzy technique have been used. In a second phase, the obtained fuzzy sets are adapted in order to model the particular perception that a user may have. For this purpose, the membership functions are automatically transformed on the basic of the information given by the user to represent his perception. © 2016 IEEE.

In this paper, we propose a novel approach to the enhancement of physical layer security for chaotic direct-sequence spread-spectrum (DSSS) communication systems. The main idea behind our proposal is to vary the symbol period according to the behavior of the chaotic spreading sequence. As a result, the symbol period and the spreading sequence vary chaotically at the same time. This simultaneous variation aims at protecting DSSS-based communication systems from the blind estimation attacks in the detection of the symbol period. Discrete-Time models for spreading and despreading schemes are presented and analyzed. Multiple access performance of the proposed technique in the presence of additional white Gaussian noise (AWGN) is determined by computer simulations. The increase in security at the physical layer is also evaluated by numerical results. Obtained results show that our proposed technique can protect the system against attacks based on the detection of the symbol period, even if the intruder has full information on the used chaotic sequence. © 2016 IEEE.

This paper aims to provide control strategies for distributed micro-storage energy systems at the residential level to contribute to smart grid goals. The operation of local Energy Storage Systems (ESS) at homes in a Smart Community with distributed generation based of renewable energies is analyzed by simulation. Each individual home receive the active and reactive power set-points from the Smart Community Energy Management System (SCEMS), acting as an aggregator of resources in the community according to the expected demand and production. Besides, in case the ESS has got available capacity, once the SCEMS requirements are satisfied, it is used to inject the harmonic current components demanded by the household circuitry. It allows a local improvement in the power quality of the demanded current, and so contributes to the global power quality consumption of the community. Simulation results showing the operation of the local ESS are presented to validate the proposed control strategies. © 2016 IEEE.

Color is a powerful feature for image analysis but it is usually not used in image classification schemes. We propose a method to combine fuzzy color information with the result obtained from a One-Versus-All classifier (OVA) trained with Bag-of-features. This method consists in weighting the outputs of the OVA classifier based on the distances between the new image to be classified and the classes. Experimental results show that our approach improves OVA classifier performance.
