In this paper we introduce a preliminary proposal for linguistic description of images. The approach is based on i) a hierarchical fuzzy segmentation of the image, ii) a collection of linguistic features describing each region, and iii) fuzzy spatial relations and locations. The procedure is independent from the way these elements have been obtained, and provides a description with the characteristics of a summary, i.e., a brief and accurate description of the whole image. As another characteristic of summaries, the method can be guided in the description by the user's preferences and interest. Remarkably, we are able to provide a description containing sentences about disjoint regions appearing in different levels of detail.

In this paper we introduce formal definitions of the concepts of fuzzy color and fuzzy color space. We present an approach to the automatic design of customized fuzzy color spaces on the basis of a collection of crisp colors, each crisp color being fully representative of a certain color term. The approach works on any euclidean crisp space and is based on obtaining a Voronoi diagram having the aforementioned representative crisp colors as centroids. The proposal will be illustrated building fuzzy color spaces on RGB colors on the basis of the ISCC-NBS color naming system.

The thermal characterization of electric and electronic devices is an important topic during the training of future electric and electronic engineers, especially in technology subjects. In the industry and accredited laboratories, the thermal tests are carried out with environmental screening process and testing systems into special chambers. However, these test systems are not usually available for didactic purposes due to mainly their acquisition and maintenance cost. Consequently, a new test system for thermal characterization in didactic laboratories has been designed. This new system is simple, intuitive, and economically viable for universities and formation centres. Students, among other aspects, can analyze how temperature affects some specific parameters of various passive and active components. In this work a didactic thermal test system is presented and its use for laboratory practicals in the studies of Industrial Technical Engineering is discussed.

In this paper, the texture feature "coarseness" is modelled by means of fuzzy sets, relating representative coarseness measures (our reference set) with the human perception of this type of feature. In our study, a wide variety of measures have been analyzed, defining unidemsional and bidimensional fuzzy set for different combination of measures. The fineness human perception has been collected from polls filled by human subjects, performing an aggregation of their assessments by means of OWA operators. Using as reference set a combination of some measures, the membership function corresponding to the fuzzy set is modelled as the function which provides the best fit of the collected data.

In this paper we introduce fuzzy naturals-based histograms on fuzzy color spaces. In our approach, histograms are fuzzy probability distributions on a fuzzy color space, where the fuzzy probability is calculated as the quotient between a fuzzy natural number and the number of pixels in the image, the former being a fuzzy (non-scalar) cardinality of a fuzzy set. This approach to histograms avoids the well-known disadvantages of the ordinary sigma-count as an estimation of the probability. We illustrate the potential application of the proposal by applying it to the problem of dominant color selection.
