Developing new imaging methods needs to establish some proofs of concept before implementing them on real-time scenarios. Nowadays, the high computational power reached by multi-core CPUs and GPUs have driven the development of software-based beamformers. Taking this into account, a library for the fast generation of ultrasound images is presented. It is based on Synthetic Aperture Imaging Techniques(SAFT) and it is fast because of the use of parallel computing techniques. Any kind of transducers as well as SAFT techniques can be defined although it includes some pre-built SAFT methods like 2R-SAFT and TFM. Furthermore, 2D and 3D imaging(slicebased or full volume computation) is supported along with the ability to generate both rectangular and angular images. For interpolation, linear and polynomial schemes can be chosen. The versatility of the library is ensured by interfacing it to Matlab, Python and any programming language over different operating systems. On a standard PC equipped with a single NVIDIA Quadro 4000(256 cores), the library is able to calculate 262,144 pixels in ≈105 ms using a linear transducer with 64 elements, and 2,097,152 voxels in ≈ 5 seconds using a matrix transducer with 121 elements when TFM is applied.

This study presents the experience of the department of Applied Medical Sciences (AMS) - Riyadh Community College - King Saud University in its way to achieve the international accreditation standards to ensure quality. The study is based on a three years experience (2008-2010). The following will be clarified, the list of criteria adopted by AMS to ensure quality and the procedures adopted by AMS to apply accreditation standards to ensure quality of *** study followed the iterative descriptive approach in analyzing the topics. The results show the procedures how the standards were applied to ensure the quality of outputs by meeting the requirements in all aspects, national and international, especially of the internationally recognized organization Council on Occupational Education COE, by which the AMS was then accredited in June 2010. A four year development strategic plan is set for the department to ensure consistent quality and improvement standards. By reviewing the literature of former experiences of Arab and international bodies for accreditation and quality assurance, the study concluded a list of accreditation criteria and indicators of quality assurance, as well as indicators to ensure the quality of the university environment. The achieved number of accreditation and quality assurance standards are presented from both national and international organizations and were found to be: 25 accreditation standards leading to 245 indicators, and 41 indicators for QA, and 29 indicators for the QA of the university *** study recommended the need to activate the academic accreditation and assessment of academic programs periodically internally and externally. Furthermore, similar departments of applied medical sciences should adopt the presented accreditation and quality assurance principles. In addition those departments are asked to put a strategic plan that meets their needs and goals. © 2010 IEEE.

The development of intelligent building and the network technology involved were introduced. The scheme of remote monitoring and control system of intelligent building based on LonWorks and Web was presented. The framework and working principle were analyzed. This paper proposes a pitch angle forecasting model based on the k-nearest neighbor classification. Air temperature, atmosphere pressure, wind direction, wind speed, rotor speed and wind power parameters were represented as a 6-dimensional attribute tuple in the forecasting model. Euclidean, Manhattan and Minkowski distance metrics for measuring the proximity between training and test tuples, mean absolute, mean absolute percentage, and normalized root mean square error metrics for measuring the forecasting accuracy were embedded into the forecasting model. The k-nearest neighbor classifier with Manhattan distance metric for k=1 achieved MAE, MAPE and NRMSE as 0.001°, 0.245% and 0.324%, respectively as the best forecasting accuracy. However, as the worst forecasting accuracy, MAE, MAPE and NRMSE were achieved as 0.015°, 3.236% and 2.613%, respectively for Minkowski distance metric and k=10. © 2013 IEEE.

Nature has optimized the processing of visual information, especially in primates. The estimation of optical flow is a complex task that gives information about ego-motion, and permits tracking objects from a given scene. The imminent advent of Quantum computers poses a significant threat to the cryptographic algorithms supporting the public key infrastructure (PKI) of widely used communication protocols. High Performance Computing (HPC) data centers among other interested parties are well aware of the catastrophic consequences quantum attacks could have on their PKI and are consequently transitioning to Post-Quantum Cryptographic (PQC) methods, despite the substantial overhead this introduces for handling incoming network packets. This work addresses the transition to PQC within the context of the Cloud-Edge Continuum by integrating the Open Quantum Safe (OQS) library into the accelerated strongSwan developed by Mellanox for Data Processing Units (DPUs). This integration offloads cryptographic operations from central servers to data DPUs distributed across the cloud-edge continuum. Our solution ensures quantum security by providing PQ authentication through CRYSTALS-Dilithium or CRYSTALS-FALCON, PQ key exchanges via CRYSTALS-Kyber, and confidential data transmission using AES-256. Additionally, the deployment of this implementation on DPUs helps reduce the computational load on both HPC data centers and edge devices, promoting more efficient and secure operations across the entire cloud-edge continuum.

The rapid development of quantum computing constitutes a significant threat to modern Public-Key Cryptography (PKC). The use of Shor's algorithm with potential powerful quantum computers could easily break the two most widely used public key cryptosystems, namely, RSA and Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC), based on integer factorization and discrete logarithm problems. For this reason, Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) based on alternative mathematical features has become a fundamental research topic due to its resistance against quantum computers. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has even opened a call for proposals of quantum-resistant PKC algorithms in order to standardize one or more PQC algorithms. Cryptographic systems that appear to be extremely difficult to break with large quantum computers are hash -based cryptography, lattice -based cryptography, code -based cryptography, and multivariate -quadratic cryptography. Furthermore, efficient hardware implementations are highly required for these alternative quantum -resistant cryptosystems.

This paper formulates and proposes a discrete solution for the problem of finding a lost target under uncertainty in minimum time (Minimum Time Search). Given a searching region where some information about the target is known but uncertain (i.e. location and dynamics), and a searching agent with constrained dynamics, we provide two decision making algorithms that optimizes the agent actions to find the target in a minimum time. The problem is faced as a discrete optimization: the actions and the sensor are discrete, and the target probabilistic model is described over a graph, where each vertex contains the target's location probability information and each edge defines the agent possible actions. We revisit the mathematical model of the optimal search problem and we propose a novel approach to include the time into the decision making by reinterpreting it as a maximum discounted time reward problem. The optimal decision plan for the agent is obtained by solving this non convex discrete problem using the cross entropy method. By performing statistical simulations we show how the target is found in minimum time.

Many algorithms for spectral unmixing have been proposed in the last years applied on hyperspectral imaging. This process is composed by three stages where the extraction of endmembers is the most consuming step. However, endmember extraction algorithms (EEAs) can be computationally very expensive and its acceleration on parallel architectures is still an interesting and open problem. In this paper, we present a parallel implementation of the simplex growing algorithm for hyperspectral unmixing called P-SGA on different platforms using the OpenCL framework. The proposed implementation exploits the memory hierarchy to accelerate the parts of this method which are more time-consuming. The proposed algorithm is evaluated in terms of both accuracy and computational performance through Monte Carlo simulations using the following architectures: multi-core Xeon CPU, NVidia GeForce GTX 980 GPU and Intel Xeon Phi accelerator. Experiments are conducted using real hyperspectral data set revealing considerable acceleration factors, which satisfies the real-time constraints given by the data acquisition rate.
