This paper presents novel sub-harmonic synchronous machines having series or parallel permanent magnet structures on rotors for better performance in terms of greater torque density. The stator of the machines has two sets of three-phase winding, where the additional winding is used to generate sub-harmonic magnetomotive force components for brushless operation. Similar to the stator, the rotor of them uses an additional winding to induce that sub-harmonic component. Rotor also uses a permanent magnet to improve machine performance in series or parallel hybrid structures having conventional or consequent pole permanent magnet structures. In this paper, 4 different rotors, 3 having hybrid excitation, are used and their performance is compared. To validate the performance, a 2D finite element analysis of 8 poles and 48 slots of sub-harmonic synchronous machines is carried out with different rotors. Finally, the wide-speed operation of the proposed machine is discussed.

LEARNING EFFICIENT POSITIONAL ENCODINGS WITH GRAPH NEURAL NETWORKS

Positional encodings (PEs) are essential for effective graph representation learning because they provide position awareness in inherently position-agnostic transformer architectures and increase the expressive capacity of Graph Neural Networks (GNNs). However, designing powerful and efficient PEs for graphs poses significant challenges due to the absence of canonical node ordering and the scale of the graph. In this work, we identify four key properties that graph PEs should satisfy: stability, expressive power, scalability, and genericness. We find that existing eigenvector-based PE methods often fall short of jointly satisfying these criteria. To address this gap, we introduce PEARL, a novel framework of learnable PEs for graphs. Our primary insight is that message-passing GNNs function as nonlinear mappings of eigenvectors, enabling the design of GNN architectures for generating powerful and efficient PEs. A crucial challenge lies in initializing node attributes in a manner that is both expressive and permutation equivariant. We tackle this by initializing GNNs with random node inputs or standard basis vectors, thereby unlocking the expressive power of message-passing operations, while employing statistical pooling functions to maintain permutation equivariance. Our analysis demonstrates that PEARL approximates equivariant functions of eigenvectors with linear complexity, while rigorously establishing its stability and high expressive power. Experimental evaluations show that PEARL outperforms lightweight versions of eigenvector-based PEs and achieves comparable performance to full eigenvector-based PEs, but with one or two orders of magnitude lower complexity. Digital twins have a major potential to form a significant part of urban management in emergency planning, as they allow more efficient designing of the escape routes, better orientation in exceptional situations, and faster rescue intervention. Nevertheless, creating the twins still remains a largely manual effort, due to a lack of 3D-representations, which are available only in limited amounts for some new buildings. Thus, in this paper we aim to synthesize 3D information from commonly available 2D architectural floor plans. We propose two novel pixel-wise segmentation methods based on the MDA-Unet and MACU-Net architectures with improved skip connections, an attention mechanism, and a training objective together with a reconstruction part of the pipeline, which vectorizes the segmented plans to create a 3D model. The proposed methods are compared with two other state-of-the-art techniques and several benchmark datasets. On the commonly used CubiCasa benchmark dataset, our methods have achieved the mean F1 score of 0.86 over five examined classes, outperforming the other pixel-wise approaches tested. The foundation of a country's critical infrastructures (CI), which provide crucial services, is its security, healthcare, and economic systems. By lowering CI's operational costs and associated expenses and enhancing its effectiveness and safety, appropriately functional CI infrastructure plays an essential role in the prosperity of the nations. To do so, businesses that manage CIs frequently combine the Internet of Things (IoT) with Cyber-Physical systems (CPS), such as SCADA systems. SCADA systems were not initially built with web security in mind, exposing CIs open to security risks. National security issues can arise when these technologies are connected to power plants and water treatment facilities. This study aims to demonstrate how security features can be implemented in DNP3-based SCADA infrastructures. By creating a functional configuration and consensus amongst the communicating devices, the DNP3 protocol will support digital signatures. The team proposed a SCADA architecture to accomplish this, making it possible for these systems more secure manner.

In this paper, we study both multi-armed and contextual bandit problems in censored environments. Our goal is to estimate the performance loss due to censorship in the context of classical algorithms designed for uncensored environments. Our main contributions include the introduction of a broad class of censorship models and their analysis in terms of the effective dimension of the problem - a natural measure of its underlying statistical complexity and main driver of the regret bound. In particular, the effective dimension allows us to maintain the structure of the original problem at first order, while embedding it in a bigger space, and thus naturally leads to results analogous to uncensored settings. Our analysis involves a continuous generalization of the Elliptical Potential Inequality, which we believe is of independent interest. We also discover an interesting property of decision- making under censorship: a transient phase during which initial misspecification of censorship is self-corrected at an extra cost; followed by a stationary phase that reflects the inherent slowdown of learning governed by the effective dimension. Our results are useful for applications of sequential decision-making models where the feedback received depends on strategic uncertainty (e.g., agents' willingness to follow a recommendation) and/or random uncertainty (e.g., loss or delay in arrival of information).

A systematic framework for analyzing dynamical attributes of games has not been well-studied except for the special class of potential or near-potential games. In particular, the existing results have shortcomings in determining the asymptotic behavior of a given dynamic in a designated game. Although there is a large body literature on developing convergent dynamics to the Nash equilibrium (NE) of a game, in general, the asymptotic behavior of an underlying dynamic may not be even close to a NE. In this paper, we initiate a new direction towards game dynamics by studying the fundamental properties of the map of dynamics in games. To this aim, we first decompose the map of a given dynamic into contractive and non-contractive parts and then explore the asymptotic behavior of those dynamics using the proximity of such decomposition to contraction mappings. In particular, we analyze the non-contractive behavior for better/best response dynamics in discrete-action space sequential/repeated games and show that the non-contractive part of those dynamics is well-behaved in a certain sense. That allows us to estimate the asymptotic behavior of such dynamics using a neighborhood around the fixed point of their contractive part proxy. We use fixed relays deployed by network operators to reduce re-transmission (thereby reducing network power requirements) in addition to providing excellent end-to-end error performance in a revisit to automatic repeat request-based cooperative relaying. The new relaying scheme facilitates the creation of a connectivity suitable for delay tolerant internet-of-things (IoT)-type services. For IoT devices, link reliability and power efficiency are a major system design consideration. The proposed scheme operates in the following fashion. The source (e.g., a sensor) transmits for a certain time window. During this period, the source and the relays do not require per transmission acknowledgment (ACK) from the destination. At the end of a transmission window, the destination sends a 'group' ACK. If negative, relays are invited to help. Depending on the cooperation strategy, each relay transmits in either one transmission time slot or a few time slots, using a suitably chosen higher-order modulation constellation. If no error occurs, the source continues its transmission. Furthermore, we devise a novel strategy for selecting the best relay for this new way of exploiting the benefits of multiple relays in a network. In the process, we reclaim the bandwidth expansion that comes with multi-relay system but still maintaining E2E bit error rate that is superior to that of a single relay cooperation. Numerical results that reveal the benefits of the new and modified ARQ cooperative relaying scheme are presented. © 2021 IEEE.

This paper presents the design and control of a two-switch forward converter utilizing a supertwisting sliding mode control (STSMC) strategy. The two-switch forward converter, known for its efficiency in medium-power applications, is equipped with a robust control method to ensure improved stability and dynamic performance under varying operating conditions. The supertwisting sliding mode approach is chosen for its ability to mitigate chattering effects, a common drawback in traditional sliding mode control, while ensuring precise tracking and disturbance rejection. Through comprehensive simulation, the proposed system demonstrates enhanced performance in terms of voltage regulation and improved transient response. The results indicate that the integration of STSMC significantly improves the converter's efficiency and robustness, making it suitable for various power conversion applications.

One major goal of digital twin technology applied in the architecture, engineering, and Construction (AEC) Industry is the mapping of roads and road environments with their associated information. Such digital twins can support cost-effective testing, simulations, and the production of mapping backgrounds for automated vehicles and generally for Cooperative, Connected and Automated Mobility (CCAM) developments. The efficient workflow that leads from data acquisition to finished products depends on a number of requirements and knowledge sets. The main contribution of the paper is a general methodology of creating HD-map from point cloud and image data set. Accordingly, the most widely used survey techniques are presented and the requirements for the objects to be derived are summarized. The paper then outlines a general implementation procedure as an expert knowledge through a real-life example, where the results obtained for the ZalaZONE Automotive Proving Ground are demonstrated. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper deals with parameter fault diagnosis in heat exchange networks (HENs) with joining and splitting connections where the change in the heat transfer coefficient is considered as fault. The fault diagnosis oriented model of the HEN elements was developed based on the equivalent LTI realization of distributed delay models. The Signed Directed Graph (SDG) method is used to derive the fault observability conditions. The presence of faults induces bilinear fault-input terms into the system model. Thus, a nonlinear adaptive observer was proposed for fault diagnosis. To verify and validate the proposed method, a case study is presented. The simulation results show that the observers are successfully detecting and estimating the faults and unknown system states.
