Nonlinear Time History Analysis for the Different Column Orientations under Seismic Wave Synthetic Approach

The significant impact of earthquakes on human lives and the built environment underscores the extensive human and economic losses caused by structural collapses. Over the years, researchers have focused on improving seismic design to mitigate earthquake-induced damages and enhance structural performance. In this study, a specific reinforced concrete (RC) frame structure at Kyungpook National University, designed for educational purposes, is analyzed as a representative case. Utilizing SAP 2000, the research conducts a nonlinear time history analysis to assess the structural performance under seismic conditions. The primary objective is to evaluate the influence of different column section designs, while maintaining identical column section areas, on structural behavior. The study employs two distinct seismic waves from Abeno (ABN) and Takatori (TKT) for the analysis, comparing the structural performance under varying seismic conditions. Key aspects examined include displacement, base shear force, base moment, joint radians, and layer displacement angle. This research is anticipated to serve as a valuable reference for seismic restraint reinforcement work on RC buildings, enriching the methods used for evaluating structures through nonlinear time history analysis based on the synthetic seismic wave approach.

Memristive crossbars are attractive for in-memory computing due to their integration density combined with compute and storage capabilities of their basic devices. However, yield and fidelity of emerging memristive technologies can make their reliable operation unattainable, thus raising interest in simpler topologies. In this paper, we consider synthesis of Boolean functions on 1D memristive line arrays. We propose an optimal procedure that can fully utilize the rich electrical behavior of memristive devices, mixing stateful (resistance-input) and non-stateful (voltage-input) operations as desired by the designer, leveraging their respective strengths. The synthesis method is based on Boolean satisfiability (SAT) solving and supports flexible constraints to enforce, e.g., restrictions of the available peripher-als. We experimentally validate memristive logic circuits beyond individual logic gates by demonstrating the operation of a Galois field multiplier using a 1D line array of 10 memristors in parallel, highlighting the robust performance of our proposed mixed-mode circuit and its synthesis procedure. © 2025 EDAA.

The intensive flow of personal data associated with the trend of computerizing aspects of people’s diversity in their daily lives is associated with issues concerning not only people protection and their trust in new technologies, but also bias in the analysis of data and problems in their management and reuse. Faced with a complex problem, the strategies adopted, including technologies and services, often focus on individual aspects, which are difficult to integrate into a broader framework, which can be of effective support for researchers and developers. Therefore, we argue for the development of an end-to-end research infrastructure (RI) that enables trustworthy diversity-aware data within a citizen science community. © 2022 Copyright for this paper by its authors. Object detection algorithms constitute a pivotal task in the realm of computer vision, aiming to precisely identify and locate objects within images across diverse scenarios. In power systems, especially in aerial images used to detect wire breaks or scattered anomalies, object detection faces significant challenges. The distribution of wires is often uneven, appearing in different sizes in high-resolution images, and the diversity of fault shapes and sizes makes it difficult for traditional object detection models to recognize accurately. Moreover, the detection of small targets also limits the precision of traditional methods. To address the issue of diversity in fault shapes and sizes in high-resolution images, which makes it difficult for traditional object detection models to recognize accurately, first, we collect fault images of wire breaks and scatter under common scenarios, constructing the 'EWF _detection' (Electric wire fault) dataset, and propose a Pyramid Multi-scale Object Detection Model, establishing the Hybrid Spatial Attention Pooling module, HSAP, which significantly enhances the multi-scale feature extraction capability. It not only improves the model's ability to focus on key features, but also suppresses unnecessary features, enhancing the expressiveness of the network, and effectively adapting to complex backgrounds, variable lighting conditions, and different line scales and directions for transmission line detection needs. This improvement makes our model perform exceptionally well in detecting rare faults in wires and accurately locate fault positions. These achievements provide reliable technical support for wire anomaly detection in the power industry and indicate a broad prospect of application in future power scenarios. Our method not only improves detection accuracy, but also maintains efficient detection speed, reducing reliance on a large number of fault line images. Controlling the DC power of High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) systems that interconnect two asynchronously grids can improve the frequency stability of asynchronously interconnected systems. The use of HVDC systems in frequency support has been studied in previous research, with numerous practical applications. However, the interaction between HVDC power control (due to frequency support) and interarea oscillation in asynchronous AC grids has not been discussed in previous studies. To investigate this issue, a detailed small signal model considering the HVDC system with bilateral frequency control has been developed, and corresponding modal analysis is conducted. Based on the developed model, the interaction between HVDC power oscillations and interarea oscillations, as well as the influence of HVDC frequency control parameters on these oscillations, has been analyzed. The performance of the analysis is then demonstrated through simulations on a modified eight-generator two-area system. Additionally, the effect of the dead-band on HVDC power oscillation dynamics, a topic previously unreported, is presented. © 2024 IEEE.

The evolution of wireless communication is poised for a major shift with the transition from 5G to 6G, a leap characterized by breakthroughs in speed, ultra-reliable low-latency communication, and AI-driven network optimization. While 6G promises revolutionary improvements, it also presents new challenges, including increased computational complexity and energy demands, data privacy concerns, and efficient spectrum allocation. The proposed model aims to address these issues by integrating AI and machine learning for optimized resource management, resulting in a high-performance, cost-effective solution for real-time, data-intensive applications. To assess the model's effectiveness, comprehensive simulations and real-world trials will be conducted, measuring critical metrics such as network throughput, latency, reliability, and energy efficiency. Within the realm of computer vision, the detection of defects holds significant importance for industrial production and quality assurance. However, current object detection methods encounter notable challenges when tasked with defect detection, including high inter-class similarity and substantial intra-class variability. These challenges restrict the performance of conventional approaches, leading to imprecise defect detection and localization. In response to these limitations, this study proposes a novel real-time, end-to-end defect detection approach based on a single-stage detection algorithm. Our method introduces several innovations to address these challenges and significantly enhance defect detection capabilities. Firstly, we develop a pioneering cross-layer feature aggregation method, enabling the network to effectively capture intricate defect patterns and improve its adaptability to defect detection tasks. Additionally, we introduce an attention-enhanced decoupled head, which prioritizes critical features while optimizing computational efficiency. Through comprehensive testing on the NEU-DET defect detection dataset, our approach demonstrates remarkable performance gains over conventional object detection methods. Notably, our method achieves an impressive detection speed of 68 FPS while surpassing existing methods in terms of detection accuracy. These results highlight the practical significance of our approach, meeting the stringent requirements of industrial production for both accuracy and speed. Furthermore, the efficacy and robustness of our method are further validated using the GC10-DET dataset, underscoring its potential for real-world applications across diverse industrial settings. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

On February 7, 2021, a rockfall in the Rishiganga Valley killed about 200 people. For the integration of seismic, social media, and remote sensing, a case study on this tragedy has been conducted. This study explores the role of social media in managing Himalayan landslides in conjunction with remote sensing data analytics. We look at how these technologies can enhance damage management, quick mobilization, and early warning systems. A literature review and case studies of the successful use of these technologies in other disaster-prone areas will support these suggestions. The intention is to equip decision-makers and experts in disaster management with the practical knowledge they need to effectively prepare for and respond to Himalayan landslide events, saving lives and minimizing the impact of natural hazards. © 2023 IEEE.
