High-resolution (HR) videos have become popular due to the widespread adoption of high-definition displays. Super-resolution (SR) techniques aim to recover HR frames from low-resolution (LR) frames. Recently, deep neural network (DNN)-based SR methods have achieved superior quality compared to traditional methods. FPGA-based SR accelerators have been proposed to optimize performance and power efficiency. However, most accelerators tailored for video SR only accept uncompressed video frames and operate per-frame DNN inference, ignoring the temporal-spatial information in compressed video bitstreams. In contrast, we observe that non-key frames can be directly constructed using codec information and HR key-frames, saving a significant amount of DNN computing. In this paper, we propose a novel compressed video SR flow and a specific FPGA accelerator called Co-ViSu that integrates decoder, SR, and encoder engines. Co-ViSu exploits codec information reuse scheme to skip non-key frame decoding, avoid complex DNN computation and speed up encoding. Our experimental results show that Co-ViSu achieves 3.6x to 9.4x performance, 4.2x energy efficiency gain with only 0.17dB quality loss compared to the traditional flow, and 2.1x throughput than state-of-the-art.

With the continuous expansion of China's high-speed railway network, the construction of bridges spanning existing railway lines has become increasingly common. Bridge transition, as a solution for constructing bridges on existing tracks, is crucial for ensuring safety during the construction phase. This research aims to utilize digital twin technology to monitor the construction of bridge transitions and address the limitations of traditional bridge monitoring methods. We employed the Unity3D game engine to create a digital twin virtual scene and facilitated seamless data exchange between the physical and virtual domains using the OPC UA data exchange mechanism. Ultimately, we developed a prototype system for monitoring bridge transition construction. This system effectively monitors critical information and activities during bridge construction, providing early warning capabilities and decision support throughout the construction process. Through the design and implementation of the system prototype, we have confirmed the feasibility of applying digital twin technology in bridge transition construction. © 2023 IEEE.

Nowadays, there is a noticeable increase in the development and use of the Internet of Things(loT). With this rapid increase, IoT devices may face several challenges when used in the real world through applications. Using 5G with large numbers of Internet-connected devices of IoT puts many devices at risk and requires risk management. The growing of IoT leads to the growth of cyber-attackers and allow them to expose the vulnerabilities. This paper will present the risk management of 5G-enabled IoT technology and the use of machine learning to mitigate the risk and reduce the attacks on these technologies, and finding solutions through previous researches. This research aims to identify and eliminate potential risks in the IoT based 5G by machine learning. The paper also aims to present a solution to the security problems and risks faced when integrating the fifth-generation network and the Internet of Things. With 5G-enabled IoT, the risk management helps organizations use emerging technologies effectively while mitigating potential underlying risks such as security breaches, and data loss. Authentication,encryption, access control, and communication security are essential for making security. Machine learning algorithms have the potential to remove many obstacles to implementing the security of the Internet of Things, paving the door for the use of sophisticated technology like 5G. With new 5G networks, it is expected that the current IoT will be significantly expanded, which will improve cellular operations and the security of IoT, as well as push the future of the Internet to its edges. Machine learning (ML) creates a secure and intelligent system and provides a robust security mechanism and dynamic for 5G networks. In response to the challenge of comprehensively security assessment and analysis in existing mobile networks from both upper-layer services and network transmission levels, A SDN-based security assessment model for transmission and service security in mobile networks (SAMTS) is proposed. This model introduces security assessment algorithms, in which static configuration information and dynamic abnormal information are considered comprehensively to judge the trend and the risk degree of attack when evaluating the security of network nodes. Meanwhile, the node importance of service orientation and transmission is integrated for security evaluation. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by simulation and comparison experiments, demonstrating its higher evaluation accuracy compared with similar algorithms.

This study presents a hybrid optimization framework combining Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm III (NSGA-III) and Multi-Objective Ant Colony Optimization (MOACO) to optimize time, cost, quality, and carbon footprint in bridge construction projects. The construction industry faces growing demands for sustainable practices while maintaining efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The proposed framework addresses these challenges by leveraging NSGA-III’s capability to maintain diversity in Pareto-optimal solutions and MOACO’s strength in refining local solutions through pheromone-based exploration. The framework models construction activities with multiple execution modes, each characterized by specific costs, durations, quality levels, and carbon emissions. Four objective functions are developed to minimize time, cost, and carbon footprint while maximizing quality. Constraints such as precedence relationships and resource availability ensure realistic project planning. The framework is validated through a case study of a 300-m reinforced concrete girder bridge, using input data derived from practical project scenarios. Results demonstrate the hybrid framework’s superior performance compared to standalone NSGA-III, MOACO, Multi-Objective Teaching-Learning-Based Optimization, and Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization. Trade-off and correlation analyses provide actionable insights, revealing relationships between objectives and enabling informed decision-making. This study contributes to sustainable project management by integrating advanced optimization techniques and practical decision-support tools. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

When it comes to the fifth generation, collaborative edge computing is preferred for offloading computation-intensive tasks of low-latency applications in Internet of Things. In this paper, we consider the partial task offloading problem where tasks can be divided into subtasks and offloaded to nearby devices. The flow scheduling problem is integrated in the offloading process, i.e., multiple and conflicting route paths are considered. We propose the latency-aware partial task offloading framework (LaPTOF) for the considered problem. LaPTOF integrates a weighted priority ranking strategy (WPRS) which generates multiple solutions with different weights on task arrival time and the task processing time. A feasible solution generation method (FSGM) is designed where the best offloaded proportion of tasks are computed, and the appropriate offloaded devices and offload paths are determined. The proposed LaPTOF has an advantage in providing a scheduling plan that minimizes total completion time of task offloading in a shorter duration. The experimental results show that the proposal is suitable for the considered problem compared with JPOFH and its variants on both effectiveness and efficiency. © 2023 IEEE.

For environmental protection, urban planning, monitoring, and management of the urban ecosystem, mapping urban green spaces is a crucial undertaking. A vital source of information for United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11.7 could come from urban green space mapping. The standard method of mapping urban green spaces requires field measurements and takes a lot of time. It is also important to update urban green space maps periodically because urban green spaces can change quickly over time due to development. With the advent of high-resolution satellite sensors like Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2, a large number of remote sensing images may be gathered, providing quick and precise information over urban areas. This work intends to offer a new perspective on how crowd sourced geospatial big data and remote sensing may be combined to enhance the mapping of urban green spaces, including time optimization and accurate information through machine learning and deep learning. For the revitalization of cities, this data will be valuable. Remote sensing imagery data can be classified using machine learning techniques like Support vector machines (SVM), Random forests (RF), and Naive Bayes (NB). In deep learning techniques such as Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), K Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN), and Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN) can be used to classify remote sensing images.

Amidst global warming and escalating extreme weather events, indoor environmental quality’s impact on human health and public hygiene gains prominence. Environmental parameters exist essentially as fields, which are characterized by high dimensionality, density and complexity, and contain massive amounts of information in space. To facilitate visualization and analysis of indoor environmental field, we design and implement BuildEnVR, an immersive analysis system by virtual reality, enabling remote analysis of real-time and historical environmental field data. Grounded in user needs and cognitive psychology, three visualization modes emerge: the Virtual Sensor mode enables users to access perceptual data in real-time at any 3D coordinates in ambient space, the 4D Heatmap mode visualizes spatial variations and trends over time in environmental field data, and the Synaesthesia mode realizes the fusion display of multi-dimensional environmental field data, allowing users to quickly understand the overall condition of the indoor environment with a low cognitive load. Extensive user surveys validate BuildEnVR’s intuitiveness and precision, and it is suitable for both experts and general users.

Lung cancer must be detected as early as possible, but it may be difficult with existing methods since they often depend on human judgment and outdated image processing. These techniques take a lot of time and are prone to errors, which produces uneven outcomes. The research provides a unique deep learning-based method for classifying lung nodules from CT images using convolutional neural networks (CNNs). By automating feature extraction and categorization, the suggested technique greatly increases diagnostic precision. The result shows superior performance over existing systems is demonstrated by evaluation measures such as AUC-ROC, accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity. With a training duration of 12 hours, an AUC-ROC of 0.95, accuracy of 92%, sensitivity of 94%, specificity of 90%, and inference speed of 0.5 seconds per scan, the results demonstrate notable improvements in diagnostic efficiency and accuracy. Deep learning has the potential to revolutionize the diagnosis of lung cancer and enhance patient care, as demonstrated by the study. © 2024 IEEE.

According to the traditional multi-dimensional FFT, memory layouts of high-dimensional data are discontinuous. Transposition is introduced to keep high-dimensional data continuous in memory. However, transposition increases memory access and is a hot spot for multi-dimensional FFT. This paper proposes an optimization framework to eliminate explicit transpositions and optimize the three-dimensional (3D) FFT. This framework includes three research points. 1) combines the width-first and breadth-first search to optimize the butterfly network of one-dimensional (1D) FFT;2) adopts a column-order algorithm to eliminate data transposition;3) adopts a blocking algorithm of cache-aware to better use the hardware resources of ARM architecture. Based on this optimized framework, a multi-dimensional FFT library named MDFFT is implemented. The experiments demonstrate that MDFFT generally performs better than FFTW and ARMPL on ARM CPUs. © 2021 IEEE.
