The use of 3D technology in creative processes not only facilitates the creation of complex and intricate works but also provides opportunities for creators to experiment and develop unique and engaging concepts. Additionally, multimedia and 3D technology enhance the diversity and interest of the audience's experience. This study focuses on comparing the impact of using 3D models versus viewing ancient artifacts in traditional formats on enhancing creativity among students in different groups. Descriptive data analysis revealed that both groups had equal mean outputs (7.14 pieces per person), but the group using 3D models (Group 2) showed greater consistency in their work, with lower variance (5.14) and standard deviation (2.27) compared to the group using traditional visuals (Group 1), which had higher variance (27.24) and standard deviation (5.22).The findings suggest that implementing 3D technology in education goes beyond preserving historical information - it serves as a crucial tool for stimulating creativity and fostering innovation. This technology enables the development of immersive learning environments that can adapt to individual learning styles while promoting collaborative and cross-disciplinary approaches to education. © 2025 IEEE.

Construction noise is one of the leading causes of attention impairment for both individuals in the vicinity and workers within construction sites. Distraction caused by construction noise can significantly affect productivity of people in the surrounding area. In addition, lack of adequate attention in construction sites can increase the risk of mistakes and will consequently result in work-related accidents. This study highlights the feasibility of using electroencephalogram (EEG) data for detecting distractions caused by construction noise. EEG data were collected from 23 participants while they completed a standard attention test (Go-NoGo) during exposure to construction noise. Both frequency-based features and non-linear features were extracted from the EEG signal and subject-independent machine learning models were applied. The results showed that channel FC5, with an F1 score of 68.41% and an accuracy score of 70.28% presented the best performance among all channels and the defined channel clusters. These findings will help inform the best features and channels to select for developing new purpose-built EEG devices with a smaller number of channels that are suited for distraction detection due to noise exposure in construction sites. © 2024, The Authors. Optimal Qubit Reuse for Near-Term Quantum computers

Near-term quantum computations are limited by high error rates, the scarcity of qubits and low qubit connectivity. Increasing support for mid-circuit measurements and qubit reset in near-term quantum computers enables qubit reuse that may yield quantum computations with fewer qubits and lower errors. In this work, we introduce a formal model for qubit reuse optimization that delivers provably optimal solutions with respect to quantum circuit depth, number of qubits, or number of swap gates for the first time. This is in contrast to related work where qubit reuse is used heuristically or optimally but without consideration of the mapping effort. We further investigate reset errors on near-term quantum computers by performing reset error characterization experiments. Using the hereby obtained reset error characterization and calibration data of a near-term quantum computer, we then determine a qubit assignment that is optimal with respect to a given cost function. We define this cost function to include gate errors and decoherence as well as the individual reset error of each qubit. We found the reset fidelity to be state-dependent and to range, depending on the reset qubit, from 67.5% to 100% in a near-term quantum computer. We demonstrate the applicability of the developed method to a number of quantum circuits and show improvements in the number of qubits and swap gate insertions, estimated success probability, and Hellinger fidelity of the investigated quantum circuits. Urban air is frequently contaminated with CO, CO2, VOC, HCHO, PM 2.5, and PM 10. Rural regions are at a lower risk than those near roads and industrial areas that produce emissions. Air pollutants negatively affect its inhabitants' health, particularly the respiratory system. Most people will spend more time indoors, requiring a method for monitoring indoor air quality (IAQ). Urban communities need IAQ monitoring instruments as an early warning system for their health. This research seeks to produce inexpensive IAQ that can be utilized by all levels of society, particularly urban communities. This research utilizes a qualitative, design-thinking-based methodology. The research diverged from Empatize, which asserts that urban communities require a method for determining the local air quality. Moreover, it is determined at the define stage that IAQ monitoring, which includes a data log feature, is still comparatively expensive, so a solution is developed at the ideate stage. Creating a prototype is the next step in realizing the specified solution. In this investigation, they decided to use IAQ monitoring, which is relatively inexpensive but lacks log data storage. The author uses the ESP32-cam microcontroller to capture the screen display device, and the resulting image is sent to a telegram and processed with optical character recognition (OCR) to generate a data log. The results of prototype testing are utilized for prototype development. © 2023 IEEE.

Optimal Partitioning of Quantum Circuits using Gate Cuts and Wire Cuts

A limited number of qubits, high error rates, and limited qubit connectivity are major challenges for effective near-term quantum computations. Quantum circuit partitioning divides a quantum computation into a set of computations that include smaller-scale quantum (sub)circuits and classical postprocessing steps. These quantum subcircuits require fewer qubits, incur a smaller effort for satisfying qubit connectivity requirements, and typically incur less error. Thus, quantum circuit partitioning has the potential to enable quantum computations that would otherwise only be available on more matured hardware. However, partitioning quantum circuits generally incurs an exponential increase in quantum computing runtime by repeatedly executing quantum subcircuits. Previous work results in non-optimal subcircuit executions hereby limiting the scope of quantum circuit partitioning. In this work, we develop an optimal partitioning method based on recent advances in quantum circuit knitting. By considering wire cuts and gate cuts in conjunction with ancilla qubit insertions and classical communication, the developed method can determine a minimal cost quantum circuit partitioning. Compared to previous work, we demonstrate the developed method to reduce the overhead in quantum computing time by 73% on average for 56% of evaluated quantum circuits. Given a one hour runtime budget on a typical near-term quantum computer, the developed method could reduce the qubit requirement of the evaluated quantum circuits by 40% on average. These results highlight the ability of the developed method to extend the computational reach of near-term quantum computers by reducing the qubit requirement at a lower increase in quantum circuit executions. Recombination is a key component for the evolutionary algorithm to provide promising offspring solutions. However, conventional recombination operators cannot generate high-quality solutions for variable linkages problems due to the particularity of Pareto sets(PS). To tackle this problem, a two-stage multi-objective evolutionary algorithm based on direction vector guidance(DSMOEA) is proposed in this paper. Firstly, a portion of the population is transformed by a covariance matrix to increase the probability of generating high-quality offspring. Then the representative solutions are selected in the transformed population to create the direction vectors. Under the guidance of the direction vectors, the population rapidly approaches PS and generates promising offspring solutions. Finally, DE is performed for searching globally to increase the diversity of the population. The proposed algorithm is tested on RM, IM, and UF test problems with 30, 50, and 100 dimensions to verify its performance. The experimental results show that the algorithm is promising for variable linkages problems. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Virtual and blended international collaboration activities, including Collaborative Online International Learning and Blended Intensive Programmes, offer inclusive and sustainable alternatives to traditional mobility programmes. Effective training programmes for teachers and administrative staff are indispensable to enhance the higher education institutions’ capability to implement similar activities. This paper introduces an online training module aimed at providing higher education teachers and staff with competencies to implement virtual and blended modalities of international collaboration. The module is designed according to the principles of the Self-Determination Theory and the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation (ADDIE) model. The paper explores whether the design of the module is effective in creating a valuable learning experience and what its strengths and areas for improvement are. Results were derived from 150 responses to the final survey questions completed by participants who completed the online training module, analysed qualitatively and quantitatively. Findings show that the autonomy, structure, and involvement support were perceived as effective in achieving the desired learning outcomes. In this work, we propose Layer-Puzzle, a multi-task allocation and scheduling framework for multi-core NPUs. Based on the proposed latency-prediction model and dynamic parallelization scheme, Layer-Puzzle can generate near-optimal results for each layer under given hardware resources and traffic congestion levels. As an online scheduler, Layer-Puzzle performs a QoS-aware and dynamic scheduling method that picks the superior version from the previously compiled results and co-runs the selected tasks to improve system performance. Our experiments on MLPerf show that Layer-Puzzle can achieve up to 1.61X, 1.53X, and 1.95X improvement in ANTT, STP, and PE utilization, respectively.

Survival analysis with genomics data provides a deep understanding of biological processes related to prognosis and disease progression at the molecular level. However, high-dimensional small sample genome data causes computational challenges in survival analysis. To address this problem of overfitting and poor interpretation of existing models, we applied the deep learning technology to genome data and proposed a survival analysis model based on an image-based residual neural network model, called Cox-ResNet. High-dimensional gene expression data was embedded into 2D images according to gene positions on chromosomes, and then a residual network model based on Cox proportional hazards was introduced to perform survival analysis. We demonstrated the performance of Cox-ResNet on five datasets of different cancer types from TCGA, comparing it with the cutting-edge survival analysis methods. The Cox-ResNet model not only shows better performance in prediction accuracy, but also biologically interpretable, by generating heat-maps and prognostic genes for high-risk groups with the guided Grad-Cam visualization method. By performing protein-protein interaction network analysis, we examined hub genes and their biological functions for the bladder cancer. These findings confirm that Cox-ResNet model provides a new solution for discovering the driver genes of poor cancer prognosis.
