Quick progress in memristive technologies has led to their consideration for several potential applications, many of which are security-critical. New possibilities of memristors, including their unique combination of non-volatile storage and compute capabilities, make them particularly attractive to edge applications, which are physically exposed to their users and therefore to potential attackers. Therefore, practical deployment of memristive circuitry for, e.g., cryptographic (sub-)modules or on-chip neural network inference, is only feasible when their vulnerability to physical attacks is understood and addressed. We evaluate experimentally one relevant class of physical attacks, namely side-channel attacks, under varying external conditions, namely temperature and magnetic fields. Using a small cryptographic construction, we evaluate both white-box and black-box attack varieties, using respective cryptanalytic techniques. Our results show that, while non-nominal conditions can complicate attacks, the information leakage remains and the secrets are extractable with additional knowledge about the memristive devices. This suggests the need to consider possible external disturbances during security evaluation.

Evaluation of educational innovation at the course level is dominated by frameworks that are linear, built on simple models, lack grounding in theory, and are generally not flexible enough to provide actionable recommendations for improvements. Moreover, the guidelines provided by existing literature are difficult to transfer to other contexts as most of these are aimed at specific innovations only. Therefore, there is a need for a new approach that is flexible enough to enable adaptation to different contexts, and that draws on the strengths of existing evaluation traditions. This paper forms a starting point for a larger research initiative for developing a comprehensive innovation evaluation framework. The context of the paper is a project based within the four universities of technology in The Netherlands (4TU) dedicated to strengthening collaboration in engineering education and research needed to take on global societal problems. The potential reach of our framework has implications for the wider field. This paper describes the results of an exploratory literature review to draw on the strengths of various evaluation theories to develop a new approach to evaluating educational innovation in courses. Value, Methods, and Use are the main components identified for this approach. Secondly, we developed a workshop to pilot this approach. Lastly, the workshop was presented to educational researchers, engineering educators, and educational advisors. We share lessons learned from the workshop and conclude with descriptions of future research to refine the framework to prepare its application in real innovation initiatives.

In the era of expanding wireless sensor network (WSN) applications, safeguarding these networks against a spectrum of threats, including Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks, is paramount. The innate resource limitations of sensor nodes often render conventional security measures ineffective. This study introduces a pioneering approach integrating minimalist machine learning techniques to combat DoS attacks within WSNs. Our methodology adeptly leverages machine learning capabilities while strategically curbing computational and resource demands. By distilling essential features from network traffic patterns, our model adeptly identifies aberrations signaling DoS attacks, all while preserving the efficiency of resource-limited sensor nodes. Its minimalist framework seamlessly integrates with existing WSN architectures, negating the need for substantial hardware upgrades and maintaining network performance. Results underscore the superior detection accuracy and efficiency of our minimalist machine learning strategy compared to traditional methods. Moreover, its scalability and adaptability render it ideal for deployment across varied WSN setups, fortifying them against DoS threats while safeguarding core network *** mitigating DoS attack impacts without burdening computational resources, our approach marks a significant stride towards bolstering the security and dependability of wireless sensor networks amid evolving threat landscapes.

Housing is not a static artifact and contributes to the physical and psychological state of the residents. The impact of the housing effect depends on the residents' quality of life and satisfaction. A review of housing journals indicates that optimal housing is not accessible for most low-income households due to the lack of financial support for tenants due to the landlords' absolute power, dwellers with physical or mental disabilities, and elderlies. Therefore, preferably, they look for a home that is as satisfying as possible. If unavoidable, a housing relocation might bring the housing situation more in line with their preferences. This paper proposes ways to obtain adaptive housing responsive to users' preferences using intelligent technologies to optimize the residents' quality of life. The work shows that implementing sensors for managing a healthy environment, smart carpet as an interface between the environment and the ventilation system, facial emotion recognition, intelligent weather detection, smart curtains, mobile apps, and adjusting interior lighting and color-changing may be valuable to offer a comfortable, user-friendly home environment and facilitates the house choosing for the user by considering their personalities and behavior patterns. © 2022 IEEE.

Electromagnetic radiation (EMR) safety has always been a critical reason for hindering the development of magneticenabled wireless power transfer technology. People focus on the actual received energy at charging devices while paying attention to their health. Thus, we study this significant problem in this paper, and propose a universal safety guaranteed power-delivered-to-load (PDL) maximization scheme (called SafeGuard). Technically, we first utilize the off-the-shelf electromagnetic simulator to perform the EMR distribution analysis to ensure the universality of the method. Then, we innovatively introduce the concept of multiple importance sampling for achieving efficient EMR safety constraint extraction. Finally, we treat the proposed optimization problem as an optimal boundary point search problem from the perspective of space geometry, and devise a brand-new grid-based multi-constraint parallel processing algorithm to efficiently solve it. We implement a system prototype for SafeGuard, and conduct extensive experiments to evaluate it. The results indicate that our SafeGuard can obviously improve the achieved PDL by up to 1.75× compared with the state-of-the-art baseline while guaranteeing EMR safety. Furthermore, SafeGuard can accelerate the solution process by 29.12× compared with the traditional numerical method to satisfy the fast optimization requirement of wireless charging systems.

The rapid growth of online learning platforms presents both challenges and opportunities for educational institutions. Online learning analytics has the potential to extract valuable insights from student learning behaviours, and such insights could offer learners flexible access to educational resources and foster lifelong learning opportunities. This paper reviews the research progress and emerging techniques in online learning analytics. We first outline the objectives of learning analytics, emphasising its potential to enhance personalised learning experiences, and examine key challenges faced in such platforms. We also review state-of-the-art techniques and explore emerging trends, natural language processing and multimodal learning analytics in particular. Aiming at the problem that the audio and lip motion are not synchronized and the face appears white light in the speech-driven face speech video, the audio-visual synchronization module and the highlight noise reduction module are proposed on the basis of the Wav2Lip network. Firstly, the sound visual alignment module is added to make the model learn the context information of the speech signal in the forward and backward directions, so as to improve the accuracy of lip synchronization. Secondly, in the image encoder, the highlight noise reduction module (HDM) is introduced to solve the problem of noise and overexposure in the highlight area of the generated speech face video. The experimental results on the LRS2 dataset show that the confidence score (LSE-C), the deviation index (LSE-D) and the image structure similarity (SSIM) of the audio-visual quality alignment network (AVQA) in this paper reach 8.565 and 4.605 and 0.872 respectively.

This study analysed work activity in a hospital basement where humans and robots interacted and cooperated on logistics tasks. The robots were deployed to automate parts of courier processes and improve the work environment for the hospital's kitchen staff. Human-robot cooperation was studied through ethnographic fieldwork relating to mobile service robots and hospital kitchen staff. The results highlighted problems arising through the assumption that the gplug and play' service robots could effectively automate work tasks. The analysis revealed the complexity of human-robot interaction in dynamic work settings such as hospitals and identified contradictions between the envisioning and realisation of robots at work, as well as the visible and invisible procedures underpinning human-robot cooperation. Consequently, we emphasise the importance of considering robots as agents of change and draw attention to the new work practices that arise when robots assume the roles of workers in dynamic work settings. © 2021 Owner/Author.

Since Thailand has now completely stepped into an aged society there are more than 20% of the population aged 60 years and over. There was also an increase in those who had problems with their balance. One of the main difficulties for these people is walking on their own. This paper presents an automatic walking aid for people with balance or walking problems. A specially designed automatic walking aid can be adjusted to six levels of height. It has an anti-collision warning system at a distance of up to 40 centimeters and displays GPS coordinates via SMS when falling. The experimental results of the prototype automatic walking aid showed that the walking aid could work as designed and could help people with balance problems walk more comfortably. © 2023 IEEE.

Face recognition is widely used in the scene. However, different visual environments require different methods, and face recognition has a difficulty in complex environments. Therefore, this paper mainly experiments complex faces in the video. First, we design an image pre-processing module for fuzzy scene or under-exposed faces to enhance images. Our experimental results demonstrate that effective images pre-processing improves the accuracy of 0.11%, 0.2% and 1.4% on LFW, WIDER FACE and our datasets, respectively. Second, we propose RetinacFace-mnet-faster for detection and a confidence threshold specification for face recognition, reducing the lost rate. Our experimental results show that our RetinaFace-mnet-faster for 640 × 480 resolution on the Tesla P40 and single-thread improve speed of 16.7% and 70.2%, respectively. Finally, we design secondary search mechanism with HNSW to improve performance. Ours is suitable for large-scale datasets, and experimental results show that our method is 82% faster than the violent retrieval for the single-frame detection. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
