This research presents a novel electromagnetic-based sensor for inline measurement of unmilled rice paddy moisture content in the rice mill factory. The proposed sensor has been designed based on the modified planar dipole structure at the operating frequency of 440 MHz. The unmilled rice dielectric constant properties have been studied and applied for characterizing the moisture content. The unmilled rice moisture content sensor system then has been designed consisting of the proposed sensor, a microwave signal generator, a microwave signal detector, and a microcontroller. The moisture content sensor system has been implemented and used for measuring the unmilled rice paddy moisture content in a real rice mill factory in Udon Thani province, Thailand. When compared with the commercial rice moisture content tool based on a capacitance technique, the proposed rice moisture content sensor system gives almost same results, which only about 4% difference has been found.

Methods for pitch analysis in contemporary popular music: highlighting pitch uncertainty in Primaal’s commercial works

We identify characteristic features of how pitch is manipulated for expressive purposes by Hyper Music, a mainstream commercial music company specialising in advertisement music for global corporations. The study shows that the use and organisation of pitch in the company’s ‘Primaal’ brand differs from Western classical music. Through interviews with producers and in-depth analysis of their work, we reveal that their methods centre on a conscious aim to construct a musical discourse based on pitch uncertainty, contrasting with the clear transmission of well-defined pitches in Western classical traditions. According to the Primaal producers, who acknowledge the influence of artists such as Kanye West and Daft Punk and use widely available technology, pitch uncertainty captures the listener’s attention. We provide analyses of musical excerpts demonstrating their approach, alongside descriptions of the tools and methods employed to achieve their expressive goals. These goals and methods are placed in a broader historical context, contrasting with fundamental principles of pitch organisation in Western music. Techniques used by Hyper Music to introduce and control pitch uncertainty include boosting upper partials, expressive use of inharmonicity, continuous pitch distributions around ‘poles’ tied to specific ‘modes’, and continuously evolving pitch. We examine these techniques from a psychoacoustic perspective, and conduct listening tests corroborating some of the observations. One challenging issue in daily solar radiation classification involves addressing the geometric differences in daily solar radiation patterns caused by geographic location and seasonal influences. A standardization method based on matrix transformation has been proposed to eliminate the daily geometric variations of solar radiation using classification for daily patterns of solar radiation. This method was tested using measurements taken at the Tokyo monitoring station from 2000 to 2021. Through the implementation of the proposed classification algorithm, this paper discerned twelve categories of daily clearness index distributions. Robotic exploration technology is widely used in various fields such as information acquisition and topographic photography. Due to dimensional transformation and data loss in data transmission, an additional manual pre-processing is required, which is very time consuming and difficult to ensure the data accuracy. In this paper, we propose an intelligent recognition method of stratigraphy boundaries of engineering geological images based on the Hough prior deep learning network (HT-LCNN). We annotate geological drawing datasets manually at first. And then improve the binary matrix size of the original network, retrain the network on a self-constructed dataset. Finally we design experiments to compare and analyze model learning capabilities so that the optimal model can be adopted to detect negligible gaps on graphical junctions. Experimental results demonstrate that our method outform HT-LCNN in recognizing strata features. It gives the robot the capability to intelligently recognize geological images and can accurately identify over 96% of stratigraphy boundaries and junctions location, thus improving the fluidity of data in the design process and reducing time costs. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Tower solar thermal power generation is a new type of low-carbon and environmentally friendly clean energy technology. In this paper, a single-objective optimization model is established with the maximum annual average thermal output per unit mirror area of the heliostat field as the objective function. By optimizing the heliostat width, heliostat height and heliostat coordinate, the annual average output thermal power can be maximized while meeting the rated power. The heliostat field is distributed in a circular shape. As the seasons change, the light intensity received by the heliostat field is uneven, so the optical efficiency of the heliostats is also different. We simplify the heliostat field into S area (area with higher optical efficiency) and W area (area with lower optical efficiency) based on the optical efficiency distribution of heliostats. At different locations, According to the heliostat width, heliostat height and heliostat coordinate generated by random functions, substituting these parameters into the efficiency model in this paper, and the random search algorithm is used to traverse the maximum annual output thermal power and the corresponding heliostat parameters. In the shadow occlusion loss model, we have grid to set up the heliostat and use the coordinate conversion to solve the shadow occlusion loss efficiency.

Guided wave tomography allows the investigation of extended areas with a limited number of measurements, typically using transducer arrays. Most imaging methods rely heavily on the material properties such as dispersion curves, that in the case of fouling deposition are not always known. In the case of complex shaped structures, geometrical anisotropy can bring additional complexity. Here we present an unsupervised machine learning approach based on the Gaussian process to detect and characterize the fouling in a pipe bend that relies only on the difference between clean/healthy and fouled/damaged measured signals.

As the nascent field of quantum computing develops, an increasing number of quantum hardware modalities, such as superconducting electronic circuits, semiconducting spins, trapped ions, and neutral atoms, have become available for performing quantum computations. These quantum hardware modalities exhibit varying characteristics and implement different universal quantum gate sets that may e.g. contain several distinct two-qubit quantum gates. Adapting a quantum circuit from a, possibly hardware-agnostic, universal quantum gate set to the quantum gate set of a target hardware modality has a crucial impact on the fidelity and duration of the intended quantum computation. However, current quantum circuit adaptation techniques only apply a specific decomposition or allow only for local improvements to the target quantum circuit potentially resulting in a quantum computation with less fidelity or more qubit idle time than necessary. These issues are further aggravated by the multiple options of hardware-native quantum gates rendering multiple universal quantum gates sets accessible to a hardware modality. In this work, we developed a satisfiability modulo theories model that determines an optimized quantum circuit adaptation given a set of allowed substitutions and decompositions, a target hardware modality and the quantum circuit to be adapted. We further discuss the physics of the semiconducting spins hardware modality, show possible implementations of distinct two-qubit quantum gates, and evaluate the developed model on the semiconducting spins hardware modality. Using the developed quantum circuit adaptation method on a noisy simulator, we show the Hellinger fidelity could be improved by up to 40% and the qubit idle time could be decreased by up to 87% compared to alternative quantum circuit adaptation techniques. The ecological environment of human-centered habitats, cities, is gradually emphasized that the idea of sustainable development is proposed to stress on the integration of development and conservation. Besides, under current resource-applied environment, long-term management of resources is planned and used for preventing resources from shortage. Current development of urban central areas is about saturated, and the rapid expansion of urban fringe is about out of control. Effective recovery of urban landscape ecological structure and function as well as retention, restoration, and regeneration of urban natural environment to balance urban ecosystem and natural ecosystem are primary issues to improve urban environmental quality. Aiming at residents in Kaohsiung City, as the questionnaire objects, 360 copies of questionnaire are distributed as the research samples, and 294 valid copies are retrieved, with the retrieval rate 82%. The research results show *** ecology as the most emphasized dimension in the evaluation of urban matrix environment from the perspective of ecological design, and *** five mostly emphasized indicators, among 20, are green coverage ratio, provision of learning opportunities, diversity of plant species, recoverable materials, and participation ways. According to the results to propose the conclusion. It is expected to dig out specific opportunities for the sustainable use and development of urban matrix and to develop a complete and systematic landscape ecological network, with the combination with other landscape elements, to promote urban ecological quality. © 2022 IEEE.

Adversarial patch attacks that craft the pixels in a confined region of the input images show their powerful attack effectiveness in physical environments even with noises or deformations. Existing certified defenses towards adversarial patch attacks work well on small images like MNIST and CIFAR-10 datasets, but achieve very poor certified accuracy on higher-resolution images like ImageNet. It is urgent to design both robust and effective defenses against such a practical and harmful attack in industry-level larger images. In this work, we propose the certified defense methodology that achieves high provable robustness for high-resolution images and largely improves the practicality for real adoption of the certified defense. The basic insight of our work is that the adversarial patch intends to leverage localized superficial important neurons (SIN) to manipulate the prediction results. Hence, we leverage the SIN-based DNN compression techniques to significantly improve the certified accuracy, by reducing the adversarial region searching overhead and filtering the prediction noises. Our experimental results show that the certified accuracy is increased from 36.3% (the state-of-the-art certified detection) to 60.4% on the ImageNet dataset, largely pushing the certified defenses for practical use.

The offset voltage and decay time performance parameters of ionizer are greatly affected by the humidity in the working environment. In this paper, the design principle of double DC ionizer with feedback regulation system is introduced, and the humidity sensitivity is studied by experiment. By setting different humidity, the offset voltage and decay time performance parameters of this ionizer are tested. The results show that the offset voltage at each point can be controlled within ±3V in the humidity range (20%~70%). Under the conditions of ultra-low humidity (8%~15%) and ultra-high humidity (80%~90%), the performance of this DC ionizer can meet the electrostatic control requirements of electrostatic protection area. When the ambient humidity exceeds 80%, the performance is greatly affected. © 2022 IEEE.
